Inside, polished floorboards and elegant armchairs put you right at ease, while the staff magically whisk your bags to your room. The message is clear: your holiday begins now. Villa Agrippina, a Gran Melià Hotel

"How did it strike you on arrival?Rome in summer is glorious, and there’s nowhere better to bed down than at Villa Agrippina, a five-star property on the banks of the Tiber, not far from Vatican City. An olive tree-lined drive takes you past manicured gardens to a vast, pink palazzo, with a soaring, palatial entrance. Inside, polished floorboards and elegant armchairs put you right at ease, while the staff magically whisk your bags to your room. The message is clear: your holiday begins now. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Families and couples: anyone looking for a resort-style stay in the Eternal City. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.Premier Rooms are filled with light, thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows—but fear not, the curtains are so heavy that, when drawn, complete darkness descends. The bluetooth speaker helps make the room your own, and there’s a flat screen TV if you’d like more entertainment than the Botticelli-esque painting hanging above the bed. But it’s the Agrippina Private Pool Villa that’s got us talking. Not only does this two-bedroom suite have its own garden and swimming pool, it can be linked with the next door’s Supreme Room, turning it into the perfect party pad. Feeling peckish? Snap your fingers and your private chef will appear, ready to prepare a meal of your choice. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Meliá's specially-designed, ultra-comfortable dreamax mattresses are the stuff of legend, and when paired with their pillow menu, you’re guaranteed some sensational slumber time. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies—any of that find its way into your suitcase? The Nespresso machine is always a winner, and the mini bar is well-equipped. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.If you can, ask for a room with a bath rather than a shower. The all-glass, in-room bathroom is completely sexy, the Carner Barcelona shower gel the perfect accompaniment to the white marble bath. You can thank us later. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Wi-Fi is spotty, but free, across the property. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?Anyone from Guest Experiences, hands down. They’ll organize your day, book your transport, and meet you when you come back, just to make sure everything went okay. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. If you’re after on-site fine dining, the recently-revamped Follie Restaurant is headed up by chef Alfonso D’Auria and takes Italian classics to a whole new level. Bottom line: worth it, and why?Gran Meliá is the perfect urban resort, with plenty of perks. Whether you want a day by the pool or a tour of Rome, the staff want to make sure your stay is the best it can be." - Maresa Manara

Villa Agrippina, A Gran Meliá Hotel (Rome, Lazio) 3 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Given the sheer size of Villa Agrippina, A Gran Meliá Hotel, whose gardens and lawns and imposing façades are impressively out of scale with its mere 110 rooms, it’s remarkable that it occupies such prime real estate. Put it this way: the Pope is practically a neighbor. More specifically, it sits on a hill (Gianicolo, Rome’s second highest) above the western bank of the Tiber, a five-minute walk from Vatican City and not much farther from the cobblestone streets of Trastevere." - Tablet Hotels

I’d like to start by saying the staff are outstanding, so friendly and very helpful, but I found the hotel to be disappointing, the hotel itself is beautiful, but our supreme room with a view was a to say the least was not a view I was expecting it was of a road and a bridge with homeless people! Our room was extremely small and the round bath very uncomfortable, on two occasions whilst we were there which was for 6 nights our room had not been cleaned by 5pm! The pool was beautiful, again staff very attentive. The spa bath at the poolside wasn’t open once during our visit, also the beautiful cocktail bar didn’t open at all for hotel guests! Perfect location though, close to all sights! But a very steep hill to climb! I’d say good at this hotel is limited for lunch and dinner, breakfast though was very good, and again staff wonderful.

We are so glad we chose Villa Agrippina for our 6 night stay due to the luxurious surroundings and fantastic staff that made the stay so fabulous. From first arriving in the grand circular drive you know you are somewhere special. The room was lovely and well maintained. The pool area was extremely relaxing. We had amazing breakfast in Amaro restaurant, and their lunch and dinner on the patio under the stars and overlooking the pool was spectacular. It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for and we couldn’t have been happier. We will definitely stay at Villa Agrippina again whenever we are in Rome!

The Good: Lovely grounds and location (10 minute walk to The Vatican); Staff are extremely pleasant; Shower in room is awesome; breakfast buffet extremely well done and replenished.|The Bad: Pricing is Zurich-like (20 Euro for single-shot of Woodford Reserve at the bar) and 100 Euro lunches (charcuterie platter, small salad and 2 beers) and 10 Euro for small diet coke in minibar. On-site store - 450 Euro for a shirt! |The Ugly: Charging guests 50 Euro per person per hour to use the Spa (Hint: Go to any 5-star resort or hotel in Germany, Austria or Sudtirol and entire Spa facilities are included and wonderfully textile-free. See, Stanglwirt or Birkenhof or even Bayerischerhof München). Swimming pool, while "free" was only open 11:30 - 17:00, precluding an early morning or evening swim when most would enjoy it. People are site-seeing during the day. See photo of empty pool. ||Maybe because it is a chain hotel?

Gran Meliá Rome – Villa Agrippina is undeniably beautiful — a five-star urban resort set in the heart of Rome with gardens, a spa, and easy walking distance to the Vatican and Trastevere. I stayed here overnight in January to catch a flight. The property is elegant and polished, and the staff were professional throughout. Room service was efficient, and the rooms were comfortable and well-appointed for a short stay. Pros: • Location: great for walking or a quick Uber to key landmarks. • Amenities: beautiful gardens and resort-style touches you don’t always find in Rome. • Service: professional and responsive. Cons (from my stay): • For such a renowned property, the atmosphere felt a little impersonal — I missed that warm, welcoming energy you sometimes find in other luxury hotels. • As a quick overnight, I didn’t get to fully experience the spa or dining, which may be where the property shines most. Overall, Villa Agrippina is a refined choice if you want a five-star “urban resort” in Rome with all the amenities, though personally I’d try another stay next time to compare. 📍 Gran Meliá Rome – Villa Agrippina — polished, professional, but missing a bit of heart. - Michelle Rodriguez Suarez

We stayed at the Gran Meliá Rome for a week with a large group, and the staff couldn’t have been more accommodating. Managing a group of our size (and at times “needy” requests) is no small task, but they handled everything with ease and professionalism. The pool is absolutely fantastic—such a relaxing spot to recharge after exploring the city. A special mention goes to Ferry, one of the servers, who was an absolute standout. His delightful attentiveness and professionalism truly elevated our experience. Overall, an excellent stay, and we would highly recommend Gran Meliá Rome for both groups and individual travelers.

The staff were delightful, the location allowed us to taxi to and from all of the sites and we were just a five minute walk from the Vatican which provided for our multiple visits! The hotel is pristine and the service is incredible. The concierge made us reservations for dinner at authentic restaurants to our specs and booked multiple conveniences to make our trip more special.

Stayed for 5 nights as a couple in September in the Vatican Suite. Suite was beautiful, well appointed, and the terrace was great with absolutely stunning views across the city. ||Housekeeping and all of the other staff were impeccable. Restored our faith after a couple of poor experiences in other 5 star hotels around the world in the past couple of months. Just sublime.

Google
This could have been the best hotel in Rome: a great location, a beautiful pool, an anniversary gift in the room, Italian cuisine… but! We were greeted at the entrance by a porter who was vaping. One of the restaurants was closed for a private event, and the one where we had lunch felt somewhat neglected. The room was very dark, and at night we had to call reception because the air conditioner couldn’t be turned off—it was blowing so hard that my nose froze. Breakfast was very average, and interestingly, any egg dishes (other than the scrambled eggs on the buffet, which I couldn’t eat) as well as porridge were available only for an extra charge. The buffet itself was quite basic. Yogurt was only cow’s milk-based, and the desserts weren’t great. I haven’t been this disappointed in a long time. On the positive side, I want to highlight the breakfast service staff, the spa team, and the excellent coffee. But the most unpleasant surprise came at checkout: a 5% tip was added to the total bill without any prior notice. At first glance, you wouldn’t even realize it was there. We always ask for a breakdown, and these 5% really surprised us. They were, of course, removed immediately, but the bad taste remained. I think that with the prices charged for food in the hotel—food that, frankly, doesn’t meet 5-star standards—it’s inappropriate to add an extra percentage without informing guests. In the end, you’re left with a strange impression: a stunning place with all the potential to be a top-tier experience, but due to staff errors or hotel policies, it fails to truly delight.

Yelp
It's an oasis for traveling gladiators Like a tropical island Well situated off the beaten path With a very well trained accommodating staff The rooms are excellent with very good AC And the breakfast buffet is outstanding Melia is a great place to stay in Rome, but not inexpensive

Yelp
Rome was phenomenal!!! The Gran Melia is definitely on the list for the revisit!! The WHOLE staff was spot on and never dropped the ball with nothing and do mean nothing. The ambience, the quality of bedrooms (sheets, towels...etc.) we're always kept clean AND most of ALL the service levels were beyond my expectations. The staff were so punctual and responsive. This my fellow Yelp nation is the ideal location when visiting ALL touristic spots. Breakfast and lounge was amazing!! All I can say is "when in Rome"....Enjoy!!!

Yelp
This is a five star hotel located less than 2km from The Vatican. Nestled in its own walled-compound, everything about this place says "upscale." Rooms are modern and well appointed but a bit small. Even the garden suite was small. Modern plumbing, appliances, well stocked mini bar and superb bedding was appreciated. Definitely would appreciate a proper, locking, sound proof bathroom door and a tub that wasn't so slippery. The place has two restaurants. Food in the fancier one was good, but not Michelin star quality. Night chefs seem to provide better consistency than day chefs. Location: 5 to 15 minute cab ride to most major sights in Rome. Staff was nothing short of superb from the valets to the reception, concierge and wait staff. Areas of opportunity for improvement: bathroom doors are awkward. Bathtub is hard to get in and out of even for young nimble people. Toiletries could use a bump up in quality. Curtains are so long in length, they take up floor space. As I said, the grounds are lavish and upscale and the staff was simply wonderful.

Yelp
As we arrived the people were nice and we were showed right to our room. The room was okay as it was right next to the service elevator for the staff which ran all night long and we could hear every time they used it. The WiFi was also not the best in the room and kept losing service. With work I had to go to the lobby to get service unfortunately. The room otherwise was nice as there was a lot of space for every thing and cool features. We originally were in the premiere suite. Although on our second to last day staying there the ceiling started to leak. There was water leaking from the ceiling was a steady stream into the bathtub above. I called the front desk and they said someone would come and check it out. While waiting there was two other spots of the ceiling that started leaking into the bathroom. After 30 minutes and calling twice no one came to check on us or told us what to do. We packed up all of our stuff, stored it as we had to leave for a tour we didn't want to miss. Talked to the front desk on our way out and they stated the people above ours they could not get into as they had the privacy placard up. So they were okay with just letting our room flood. They said they would call us for a solution. They never called until I called them hours later and they said we have a new room. I understand and appreciate the new room but there was no since of urgency or no hey how can we help you effort from the staff. Moving on the junior suite was nice and spacious and had alittle bit of a view. The Hotel restaurant was good with many options. The breakfast was also yummy with a great spread. The hotel was close to the Vatican City for our tour but it is about a 30 min walk to any other tour attractions.

Yelp
The customer service and amenities have been five stars and two thumbs up. The hotel is walking distanced to many attractions yet far enough off the beaten path to feel secluded and pampered. The pool and restaurants have been superb, Sat and Tues they have love music pool side.

Yelp
I would give 5 for overall beauty, but the food was not great. We had to send a couple things back. Because this can happen, I still want to leave accolades and much warmth of heart for the staff at Gran Meliá. It's a haven. Beautiful pool and spa - exceptional rooms. We had truly relaxing nights here and the vitality pool in the spa is not to be missed. Sofia, Daniela and Antonella are just the BEST at their jobs.

Yelp
This place is so awesome! We had a great time staying here. The service is also exceptional. We were very late to buy our tickets to visit the museum (the tickets were sold out online) and the concierge was very friend and got us the tickets without any issue. Everything here is upscale: the decor, the design, each room seems to have a different theme. We ate at their restaurant once too and both the food and service were amazing. This location is also super convenient as it's located near the Vatican. I really recommend this place and we would definitely go back if we visit Rome again. It was one of the best 5 stars hotels that we stayed in.

Yelp
i don't get why this hotel gets only 3 stars on Yelp. it's probably one of the best service to find in Europe. unfortunately hospitality is not on the high level in Europe and finding something like in Bellagio or Aria in Vegas is not that easy. France was completely disappointment when comes to hospitality, Italy is better for sure and i was very satisfied with Gran Melia Rome. every request was immediately responded and especially Red Level service was even on higher level. I could feel i'm in a castle with lots of mades waiting for me to request something. it was really cool. my opinion the most complaints are because of high price. it is not cheap but worth every euro that i spent there

Marie S.

Yelp
I love this hotel. It's modern, with plenty of amenities (2 USB plugs!) and close to Vatican City. Only thing I did not like, is the shower/tub combo. This one in particular was bad, since it seemed to be really high and there aren't any bars to grab onto to help crawl in and out of. I saw someone else comment about this, so FYI, yes it's on a hill. When you are coming back from a day of site seeing Rome, you'll be walking up a hill. If I can do it, anyone can do it, it wasn't that bad. Unrelated to the hotel, FYI if you want to see the Sistine Chapel, it is not in the Square. It is part of the Vatican Museum, and the entrance is (kinda) behind the square. You have to walk along the wall for a long time (10-15 mins, which sucks if it's raining. Sadly, I know this for a fact).

Yelp
First off I will say that the Gran Melia Rome was a beautiful place, but I would not stay there again... It was very close, within walking distance to a lot of things; the beds were pretty comfortable, and most of the staff were amazing... We stayed for three nights at the Gran Melia; and on the first day prior to going out I complained that the room was very hot.... They did something in the computer and told us that if it did not remedy the problem that they would have maintenance take a look. When we returned the room later in the day it was still a sona... I calmly spoke with the same guy whom I believed to be the lead at the reception desk,(possibly the manager) about that problem, and the fact that we were having trouble with the internet. He was very rude and condescending... later in the day I spoke to other staff about my problems with the room and during our stay the heat was never fixed...

Yelp
This review is only for the spa.. I haven't stayed in the hotel. The spa is wonderful.. For about $100 you can get an hour long massage and use the facilities. There is a small outdoor pool, relaxation room, and steam room. I also heard you can use the gym. The staff speaks English well and appointments can be made through email. There are a lot of cheaper spas in town but quality drops a lot.

Yelp
An error occurred with my reservation , which wasted hundred of dollars. Spoke with Christina in reservations who told me it was not possible to use those funds against a future reservation. Asked to speak to her supervisor Angela [--] who couldn't be bothered to come to the phone but begrudging gave me her email address and she offered me a one level upgrade on a future stay in a rather rude and belittling manner. I told that would not help me and she never responded to my email or was available to talk to. Five stars certainly not the personnel. Her email responded the revenue manager would not allow any consideration. So If you want a hotel where the bean counters rule this is the place for you. As Randy Newman sang it's only money that they love

Yelp
Nice hotel, very pricey for what you get. If you aren't the 'red level', you are made to feel second class. The restaurant food was average at best but very very pricey. Our room had electrical issues when we checked in, they fixed it, hair dryer didn't work. For the price, expect more. Service from the front desk ladies was exceptional!
