The hotel is in a great location and is beautiful, with generally good service.
We booked through British Airways Holidays with a premier room and noticed that guests who book via third parties do not seem to receive the best rooms. The room we were initially given was very dark and faced another building, which was quite disappointing. The photos on the website are misleading, as the Premier and Deluxe rooms are much darker than advertised. We had to pay an additional €50 per night to move to another room in the same category with a view (Got room with a view of the high way and bit of river 😞).
For a five-star hotel at this price point, the breakfast was very average. Aside from the scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages on the buffet, the selection was limited, and if you ask for fried eggs required an extra charge. We stayed for three nights and had exactly the same breakfast each day, which became quite disappointing.
We also had the Christmas brunch, priced at €80 per person. The buffet was basic, the desserts were acceptable (noticed that they have recycled some from the breakfast buffet), but the starter and main courses were extremely underwhelming. It was one of the most disappointing Christmas meals we’ve had in a long time, and it felt like a complete waste of money.
The only real positives were the friendly staff, beautiful hotel with well manicured gardens, good facilities, clean rooms with nice bathrooms and the good coffee.
Plus, had a good lunch at the restaurant on 24th Dec.
Finally, adding a 5% service charge to the final bill without clearly mentioning it and asking for consent at checkout was very uncomfortable and an unpleasant surprise.
Overall, while the hotel is beautiful and well-located, the experience did not meet expectations, and unfortunately, I would not recommend it to friends.
