Villa Amarilla Beachfront Hotel Tamarindo

Small hotel with a hostel vibe. Step out from the courtyard to the beach. Best bed we slept on our entire trip! Unfortunately, Tamarindo was not a good fit for my wife and I, so we only stayed a night. The staff was amazing and super great to work with.

Stayed here for one week and enjoyed every bit of it! The location was perfect, right on the beach with great views and close to everything without being too close to night-life noise. The staff was the best.. very friendly, personable and always there during the day to make sure we had everything we needed and had great suggestions on things to do in the area. The room was spacious with high-ceilings and well-kept with cold cold a/c. They even did a small amount of laundry for us (personal laundry is not a service they offer so don't expect it but we asked nicely and they were happy to do so.. just to credit how nice they were.. we tipped them, of course). Wish I stayed here during my first trip, will book them again for my next trip for sure!

Awesome beachfront property. We can practically roll out of our bed and right onto the beach. Rooms are smaller but clean. Fantastic staff. Can sit on chairs on the lawn or bring the chairs right onto the beach and stare at the ocean. Breakfast of fresh fruit and baked goods were appreciated. Coffee was very good. There's a fridge and freezer at the patio where you can store cold drinks if you don't want to go back to your own fridge. There's even a grill and cooking essentials. We booked surf lessons with the guys on the property. They are very good and we had sooo much fun. Highly recommend Villa Amarillo.

I came to Tamarindo and stayed in an airbnb off of the beaten bath for 3 nights, but decided I wanted to stay one extra night. I became friends with Ciara after meeting her at beach yoga who is one of the hotel managers and decided to stay here for a night at $80 (paid via cash) for a Friday night. The location is great. The service is incredible (Esteban at the front desk is extremely kind, friendly and does everything he'll tell you that he'll do. He's what people should strive for with customer service). The complimentary banana bread/pastries and fruit (mango/pineapple/watermelon) are a nice touch (There's coffee too but I didn't have any myself). When I was first placed in a room, the air conditioning was not working. I wasn't too upset about this as they cleaned the room early for my early arrival. Esteban was kind enough to move all of my items to a room up a flight of stairs. However, once I was in that room, my shower wouldn't work at all around 9pm (no water came out at all). Eventually found out it was because a worker was watering the plants and needed to shut the water off. However, even with the water off, the water barely came out and the temperature didn't get very warm. Overall, I would recommend this for a mostly pleasant stay in Tamarindo. Tamarindo isn't perfect and there's constant construction/repairs in this city in general. If you are a light sleeper, keep in mind that the rooms can get semi loud because they are in the heart of Tamarindo (I stayed about a 5-12 minute walk from the main area previously and appreciated the quietness/privacy).

Perfect beachfront stay! The place is very cozy and straight on the beach. The rooms are thoughtfully equipped to the top level of comfort. Administrator Elena is brilliant - speaks at least 4 languages and takes personal interest in making your stay a top notch experience. There's mini-spa with massages and beauty services offered right at the hotel and also surfing lessons for all ages and skill levels. I absolutely loved this place. Best for everything.

The staff here is exceptional—no doubt about it. The room was very clean & the beds were comfortable. We stayed here primarily because it was listed as “dog-friendly” and, while our small dog was welcome here, the owner has a huge Rottweiler who we were warned could be aggressive to small animals (it had killed raccoons, etc) and might attack our dog. We were warned to be careful. We were careful and there were only a couple of scary growls. But others who are considering staying there for this reason should know that ahead of time. It made it difficult for us to hang out in the public spaces—something I thought we would like to do. There was also a seating area right outside our door and other guests smoked there pretty much every evening. Our door had a 1” gap under it & every time the A/C kicked on, it sucked smoke right into our room. I am allergic to cigarette smoke (immediate migraine trigger), so we had to stuff a damp towel under the door when we were in the room. Having said all that, the location is perfect, the rooms are clean, A/C works great, and staff is amazing.

This was probably the best place I’ve stayed, not just in Costa Rica but in general. From the moment we checked in everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The property was beautiful with a nice garden to relax in and had everything we needed available for use. The location could not be better, in right in the center of town with direct access to tamarindo beach. We were able to easily come and go without worrying about our valuables being stolen, and the property even provided towels for beach use. The rooms were clean, cool, and comfortable. Everything you could need was on site including tour bookings, messages, and surf lessons. They even offered a laundry service and fresh baked goods for breakfast. Elena was so friendly and able to answer all our questions, as was everyone working on site. Staying here made our trip to Tamarindo perfect! Would give more stars if I could.

I stayed at the hotel for 3 days and it was amazing! The room was clean, breakfast was delicious and TJ (the owner) is super attentive. I don’t know what I liked more the stay or the surf lessons. Right on the property, there’s surf lessons available for the public. Because of the lessons, I stood and rode a wave for the first time. My instructor was super attentive and encouraging, even though I wasn’t very good. Highly recommend not only staying at this lovely hotel but also participating in the surf lessons. Support local business!! 10/10 around the board.
