"Interior designer and owner Denis Roy eschewed the palapa-inspired elegance employed by so many Costa Rican resorts in favor of a tropical take on European influences—Victorian architecture, French colonial touches, and Grecian columns among them—creating a resort like no other on the country’s west coast. Owing to its vantage point 1,100 feet above the entrance to the Gulf of Nicoya, the views of the rain forest, ocean, and sunsets are stunning, especially from the infinity pool. Rooms in the main building are fairly basic, but suites and villas offer more luxurious touches, such as Jacuzzis, private ocean-facing terraces, and plunge pools. The property has its own beach (with sun beds, showers, and a snack bar), but since it’s at the bottom of a steep hill, the resort provides hourly transfers. Retreat to the open-air yoga studio, then head to the bar atop the Greek amphitheater to linger over a martini at the nightly sunset happy hour."

I traveled with my wife and a 2-year-old child.||The hotel is very beautiful and peaceful, and the entire staff was extremely friendly throughout our stay.||The views are among the best in the area—if you visit during summer, you might catch some stunning sunsets.||Housekeeping service was excellent: punctual and efficient.||A few areas for improvement:||1: The minibar was empty. The front desk staff told me that since 2020, they no longer stock it with items like drinks, snacks, or cookies.||2: The private pools in the villas are quite deep—about 1.7 meters (5.6 feet)—so they're not suitable for kids or anyone who doesn't know how to swim.||3: The room service menu is very limited.||Overall, it’s a beautiful hotel. I believe it's mainly designed for couples, but you can definitely enjoy it as a family too—you’ll have a great time.

Villa Caletas is truly a slice of heaven tucked in the lush mountains of Costa Rica, overlooking the sparkling Pacific Ocean. Our experience there was nothing short of magical. The architecture, the attention to detail, the serenity of the jungle blending seamlessly with the elegance of the resort—it all created a dreamlike atmosphere we’ll never forget. Every sunset was a breathtaking experience, made even more special by the view from the amphitheater—one of the most romantic spots we've ever seen. The rooms were luxurious, the grounds immaculate, and the infinity pool felt like floating in paradise. The staff were warm, attentive, and truly cared about creating an unforgettable experience. Whether we were dining at the restaurant, relaxing in our suite, or exploring the trails and private beach, we were met with kindness and incredible service. Villa Caletas is more than a hotel—it’s a sanctuary. Perfect for weddings, honeymoons, or anyone wanting to soak in the magic of Costa Rica in style and peace. We are already dreaming about coming back.

I booked this room based on the amazing review but I overall had a mixed experience !||Positive- the good part of this property is the location, it’s very near Jaco beach and around bunch of restaurants . The views from the room and restaurant is amazing and you would really njoy the sunsets .|We also loved the architecture it was really nice, the lobby, room decor and the terrace. The room cleaning staff was meticulous and made nice cute design of towels each day for us.||Negative-|1. It seems we arrived during a wedding event . I would expect a 4 star hotel to plan accordingly . However we had to park quite far from the reception as the parking was full . Note we were not super late to check in we had arrived, around 4 pm. Secondly we were told they could sit us for dinner only after 8 pm due to the wedding . We had booked months in advance they should have planned better.|2. During dinner we were told that there is nothing vegetarian except 1 salad. In today’s date for a 4 star property not having any vegetarian option was really disappointing. The person who took the order also did not offer anything like a pasta with no meat or something. We are global travelers and in our experience, such restaurants ( where there is nothing vegetarian ) - generally they offer to cook the same dish but without meat, here they did nothing ! Very disappointing !|We ended up getting good food from Jaco which was cheaper :)|3. Maintenance of the property is poor - while the architecture is really good it’s not well maintained. We saw cobwebs across the property and in and outside the room. We have been to La Fortuna area which is more biodiverse and rooms there in 2-3 star properties were better maintained. For the price they charged we expected a bit more of cleanliness.|4. Room service - it took 1.5 hour to get a spoon and 45 mins to get coffee. It’s really slow !

Where to even begin?! Villa Caletas has been our dream destination for a wedding for years. When my now husband and I got engaged, we knew this was where we wanted to host all of our friends and family and it was the best decision we ever made. Michael from the hotel was attentive, answered all our questions and ensured we had the day we always imagined. He helped us secure vendors, hold room blocks for all our guests, and most importantly, made destination wedding planning as easy as possible. There’s nothing we would change, the day was everything we wanted and more. If anything, we just wish we could make time go slower so we could have celebrated in paradise longer. Thank you to Michael, Mariana and all the staff at Villa Caletas for a beautiful day.

A friend had a beautiful destination wedding at the adjacent venue [Zephyr Palace] and we stay here. We booked a Jr Suite and werent totally sure what to expect as the photos on the website were a bit lacking. We were very pleasantly surprised and felt our room [#9] was way better than expected. The view was incredible - especially at sunset. There were several pairs of macaws every morning around the property and it was awesome seeing them in the wild. Tons of other interesting birds and wildlife. Even a juvenile sloth was hanging out in a tree down at the beach location. Bed was comfy, room was fantastic, the entire hotel was beautifully landscaped and maintained. Gorgeous location!!

I have to agree that the service at this hotel has plummeted over the last few years. The check in experience was just cold and lacked any type of special experience that used to be the hallmark of this hotel. We were severely let down by the quality of the restaurant itself, servicing genuinely bad food at an inflated price. Would not recommend this hotel unfortunately.

For me Villa Caletas was overall better than expected. Since I stepped into the hotel, I felt like I was welcome, the staff were extremely helpful and kind. The room was distant from the reception, so they offered to guide us to the room. The room was absolutely beautiful and big, for me and my wife was absolutely perfect. It had a jacuzzi with hot water and a big bathroom. The jacuzzi was great to relax. The only two negative points I would give to the hotel is, the prices of the food are greatly overpriced, we had dinner and the food was good, but the prices are over the roof, in my opinion it is better to drive 10 minutes to a nearby restaurant than eat in the hotel restaurant. Don’t get me bad, the food was good, but the prices of the food and drinks are the problem. The second downside was the hotel beach, it’s beautiful and the staff are super friendly but it’s only a beach to relax on the beds or seats, I wouldn’t recommend it to go swimming, it’s very rocky. If you want to relax it’s the perfect spot, but if you’re looking for a calm place to get into the ocean it’s not the place. To reach the beach it’s a 20-minute ride from the reception, if you don’t have a 4x4 the hotel offers a free shuttle. Overall amazing, a very beautiful place to stay.

North Beach high school 50th class reunion trip||Between Tarcoles and Jaco, high on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, there's a magical place. Villa Caletas is my favorite spot to sip cocktails, in their Zephyr palace and amphitheater, while watching the 360 degree sunset. These beautiful sunset photos are not filtered, just Mother Nature at her finest. Our group did not dine here or stay in the hotel, that's another story 😁, but we enjoyed the most beautiful cocktail hour while watching the sunset.||Life is good in Costa Rica |Pura vida
