The Best Hotels on the Amalfi Coast With Spectacular Views, Private Beaches, and More

"Surrounded by the most splendid gardens on the Amalfi Coast, this historic Ravello property can trace its origins back to the 11th century. The villa was largely rebuilt in the early 1900s by Lord Grimthorpe (an English co-designer of Big Ben), and it soon attracted the likes of Virginia Woolf, Greta Garbo, and E.M. Forster. The sumptuously decorated suites include vaulted ceilings, Majolica tile floors, and cheerful frescoes. Michelin-starred restaurant Il Flauto di Pan serves elegant twists on homestyle local dishes, such as white rabbit ragù and marinated Cetara anchovies. But the villa’s simplest delight is also its most spectacular: Gore Vidal once said that the view from the garden’s belvedere was the most beautiful place in the world." - Jamie Spain

This is one of my favourite hotels in the world. Sitting on top of a mountain, with stunning views of both the sea and other mountains for miles on end. Pictures don't do it justice, it has to be seen with your own eyes to be truly appreciated. Just be prepared for a short 10 minute hike with stairs to reach the hotel, since there are no direct roads accessible, but your luggage will be taken care of by the hotel porters. The walk to the hotel is a refreshing experience itself, giving you a taste of the Ravello mountain life! The staff were all polite and professional, catering to our every need. We went for our wedding anniversary, and the staff accommodated us at every moment, even opening up their helipad for our pickup during departure. Highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful escape far away from noise and people!

What views! Everywhere you look is another of the most beautiful views you’ve ever seen. At breakfast position yourself towards the coast or the gardens or even the beautiful old building and it’s breathtaking. |Breakfast itself is a buffet and lovely. Staff very attentive (although the music is a bit special). The deluxe room was smallish and traditional but with a fabulous view worth the upgrade. |Staff generally very helpful and friendly |Lovely pool although the iron day beds get very very hot and you have to be careful to lie in a straight line and not be too tall lest you sear your skin. |However, there seems to be a large wedding on every day, which closes parts of the gardens and even the infinity terrace, and the disco goes on late into the night with little consideration for those trying to sleep|There was a small issue with the laundry not being taken away and the shower gel not replaced when empty. The flex on the lamp had exposed wires. |However, a lovely stay and quite the best location (a sweaty walk to get there but your luggage is taken care of in the buggies, so it’s not too bad really)

Everything before our arrival, from making the reservation to liaison over arrival and transfer of bags to the hotel was exceptionally professional and made to seem very easy.|The hotel is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the start of the pedestrianised historical centre of Ravello so you meet the hotel’s porter there who arranges transfer of your bags and provides you with a map of the walking route to get there. Of itself this was an enjoyable experience. Check in is straightforward and we were provided with a choice of welcome drink. As expected, due to the time of our arrival, our room wasn’t ready but it didn’t take long and bags were waiting for us in the room.|Room facilities were very good, as you’d expect. The only negative was that there is no ability to make yourself a cup of coffee (or tea) which seems increasingly unusual in today’s world.|Staff were super helpful and organised a restaurant booking for us in Ravello and then an onward car transfer on our departure. There is a beautiful bar area, with garden, that affords sea views. Also the house is in a beautiful public garden which opens at 09:00 but as residents you can explore this in the peace and quiet before opening. Whilst the gardens are open to the public we had no disturbance to our stay from that dynamic.|There is a small, but well equipped, gym which is to the side of a lovely pool area. The pool area has a bar service during the day.|The hotel is home to a Michelin starred restaurant. That is reviewed separately.|I would note that this hotel seems to be particularly popular with American visitors and also acts as a wedding venue.

The experience begins the moment you enter the enchanting medieval building, rich in Norman architectural charm. The atmosphere is steeped in history and elegance, setting the tone for a truly special evening.||The staff welcomed us with warmth and professionalism, making us feel immediately at ease||We began our evening indoors, surrounded by timeless beauty, and later moved to a table on the terrace.||We had the ‘orti e lampare’ menu’ a perfect blend of elegance and flavor, with a clear tribute to local ingredients and the sea. Every dish was beautifully presented and delicious.||We enjoyed a sensory journey through taste, history, and landscape. A must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable culinary experience in Ravello.

We had the absolute pleasure of staying at Villa Cimbrone in Ravello for one of the most magical wedding celebrations imaginable—and it truly exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. The staff were exceptionally warm, welcoming, and professional, making the entire experience feel seamless and special. The hotel itself is a masterpiece—elegant, historic, and set within the breathtaking gardens of Ravello with sweeping views of the Amalfi Coast. Our room was beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and incredibly comfortable. The breakfast was another standout—an impressive variety of high-quality options, beautifully presented, and served with care in the most stunning surroundings. Villa Cimbrone is not only a five-star hotel in every sense—it’s also one of the most spectacular wedding venues we’ve ever experienced. The entire celebration was unforgettable, and Mark and Peter ensured everything was executed with such grace and professionalism. Whether you’re traveling as a couple, with family, or looking for the perfect wedding location, Villa Cimbrone is truly exceptional and comes highly, highly recommended.

Beautiful gardens and service. Friendly and attentive staff. The hotel itself is the biggest attraction in the town so it’s cool to stay at it. Stunning experience overall. It’s a bit of a trek to get to, but definitely worth it. The views are breathtaking.

Google
Beautiful hotel, did not know until we arrived that you could not get there by car. You must walk 20 min up! This also means if you want to eat you will need to walk to restaurant/hotels in other locations. They do have a gelato/snack restaurant pretty close, and a Michelin star rated restaurant for dinner ($$$$$) but other than that you’ll be walking a bit. Very pretty, very elegant though.

Google
Visited the gardens only - which are not worth the entry fee. You can get lovely views from various other locations in Ravello. The crypt was closed off as were parts of the garden. But, the gardens are mostly shaded and it's one of the few tourist attractions in Ravello which isn't eating or shopping.

Yelp
For 10eu, you can experience spectacular views in a beautiful garden setting. The pics from this location were so worth it. We visited in May so many of the flowers were not in bloom, however, the statues, trellises, buildings, and greenery were equally beautiful. There are many things to enjoy in a garden year round. Ravello is a lovely little town so after the garden, check out some shops and stop for a cappuccino.

Yelp
Amazing hotel, amazing views, amazing garden, and amazing drinks. If you are a hotel guest and are lucky enough to have Lucas as your bartender, take the time to watch him ply his trade

Yelp
Double check everything. Wonderful room and stay. Beautiful gardens and we enjoyed the food. Staff inspires confidence in their work - Until a mistake happens - then the management puts the blame on you. We had a baggage mishap that was clearly their fault. They mixed our bags with another family when it came time to leave and we noticed a bag in our lot that did not belong to us. We flagged it but did not realize that one of our bags was with the other family. We drove off and when we found the mistake the manager said "we never make mistakes with bags" and " it was our responsibility to account for things. Made us pay to come back on our last day to get it costing significant money and time. If you read any negative review for them on Trip Advisor you'll see the same behavior - if there is a problem blame the guest. Arrogant and fragile behavior on behalf of management - setting up a house of cards for themselves. There are better places to stay. Visit the gardens then go back to a place where you're not treated poorly

Yelp
Hmmmmm to be very honest I'm kind of disappointed because this place is a Michelin star place and I had very high expectations of it. A friend of ours recommended this place while we were on our trip and I looked up this restaurant and the whole place and I was counting down the moments until I got to see it in person. I'm giving it a three star because the hotel and the whole place is absolutely stunning and heavenly that I can't even describe it in words. The garden and the restaurant are beautifully designed you will feel like you are walking in a little heaven on earth. The staff were one of the friendliest staff I had seen before, they immediately sat us down at a really nice table on the terrace with a breathtaking view. Now let's talk about why I'm giving it a three star. Again as a Michelin star restaurant I had very high expectations of the food. I ordered a pasta dish and of course why not I am in Italy. My pasta had absolutely no taste I had to add so much salt and pepper to it to be able to eat it. I know a lot of pasta dishes in Italy are Al Dente but this was AL DENTE DENTE like plasticky feeling. It was so hard to bite each piece. We were there with another couple so the four of us order a different dishes but my friend also ordered the same exact thing as mine. It was time to get the desert and we ordered two dessert for the whole table. I couldn't hold it in anymore so I asked everyone how they felt about their food and everyone just said how unhappy they were with the taste of the food. My friend said that her pasta was extremely tasteless and she also said the same thing about the pasta feeling very plasticky. We asked the guys and both of them Felt unhappy with their food. The dessert was OK I would give it a 4/10 but the food definitely 2/10 not even a 2 maybe. So sad. Hmmm very disappointing

Yelp
We ate lunch at Mediterraneo which we found to be excellent in terms of food, service, availability of reservations and beauty of surroundings. Had the best eggplant parmesan, lemon risotto, and a few other dishes recommended by our lovely waitress. Wish we had space for the delish desserts we saw...we'll try those next time. One of our best meals on our trip to Italy. I know that they have a fancy restaurant Fluto de Pan which is available in the evening but if you want to do something less fancy and with fresh local ingredients this is the place to go! An excellent way to spend a very hot afternoon eating under a cool shade on the balcony overlooking some of the most jaw dropping views of Amalfi. Go here, and afterwards walk in the gardens and see some of the most iconic views of Ravello captured for decades on film. Go here you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Villa Cimbrone is one of the most beautiful settings I've ever been to on this planet. It's a bit of a walk through town to get to, but the architecture, gardens and views, especially from the Terrace of Infinity, are one of a kind. I would love to return someday and actually stay at their hotel

Yelp
This review is for the Gardens at Villa Cimbrone which are stunning and a lovely way to spend a day outside enjoying the beautiful views. I did this as a day trip from Positano and the views along the way are almost as stunning as the gardens. Know before you go that there are a ton of stairs and climbing so this is not for anyone who has difficulty walking. But if you can do the walking and stair climbing, it is definitely worth it. You are dropped or can park in the town area where the plaza hosts plenty of places to eat, drink, shop or just sit and enjoy the people watching. Follow the signs and walk a ways and you will find yourself at the Garden of Villa Cimbrone. Used for weddings, and other special events, the grounds are simply gorgeous no matter what time of the year you go. They are a great example of English gardens in the mediterranean! And if you follow the map you will eventually end of at the "Terrace of Infinity" which is spectacular with it's views of the sea. The map that they give you will walk you thorough 12 different points in the garden. There is an entrance fee to get in but it is nominal. And if you need a restroom-they are located at the entrance so you may want to pop in there before heading out. A beautiful way to enjoy the Amalfi Coast!

Yelp
Cute little garden but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here. It's a hike to get to and you can cover the full garden in about 15-20 minutes. It does have a beautiful lookout point once you get there. Although youll get beautiful views anywhere in ravello.

Carol S.

Yelp
Gorgeous, hidden gem. Well worth a visit. There is a little cafe in addition to the Michelin star restaurant.

Yelp
Beautiful. Nothing but. The views I have seen in art work by the greats. The Villa is amazing - the restuarant service - not so good. I started with the smoked Scottish salmon then to the filet and porcini mushrooms. Excellent! The problem was the service - for such a beautiful place, the service was lacking. Maybe an employee quit, I don't know but there were omissions, a knife here, uncleared bowls there - I just expect more.

Yelp
Even in late October, where most of the flowers had retired for the season, Villa Cimbrone is a worthwhile expenditure of 7 euros and an hour of your time. The large formal gardens are very well tended, peaceful, serene, ... (you make up some more adjectives). The high point is the Infinity View which is a sharp drop off directly down to the Mediterranean - yes they have a small wall to keep you from tragedy when taking a selfie. The views from there are definitely stunning. The Villa is about a 0.5-1.0 km walk from town; just follow the signs or guess occasionally.

Yelp
This place is almost unreal. The grounds are the best and possible alone worth visiting. Hard to beat setting no doubt. But the staff absolutely sucked. Super small hotel at 19 rooms so small scale friendly service must be in order for a 5 star place. The guy managing the pool drinks and food would not get off his rear and was very rude. Over 90 degees and you had to go find him for a warm water. Our second day he literally told us the other restaurant on site had better food so not to seek him. Restaurant and lobby staff were mixed but most were cold and rude. A real turn off off. Oh and the ac was broken and our suite was 26c or 79f the whole time and they blew off any complaints. Other guests voiced the same concern. The physical place was a 10/10. The stay was not enjoyable because the staff ruined it. Stay nearby at a friendly well run hotel and just visit Villa Cimbrone for a small fee

Yelp
Villa Cimbrone is a place to see before you die! I cannot say enough beautiful things about this place. Everything was amazing. The restaurant was amazing, best bellini on the entire planet along with yummy dishes.

Yelp
Location and grounds are beautiful. The gardens especially are wonderful v quiet despite the tourists and the views are unparalleled. It does have a lot of stairs so be prepared for a workout. Service is mediocre as it ranges. The breakfast service is very attentive and the front desk as well, always helpful as they arranged for breakfast to be a little earlier when we had to leave for Capri. The breakfast buffet includes eggs, bacon, sausage fruit dry cereals and pastries. The coffee and teas are superb. The terrace is also great for reading and relaxing. It was a bit cold to use the pool but it looked heavenly. We ate at the restaurant where the food was ok. The service was atrocious at best as we were actually insulted by the maître d'. We had traveled all day to reach the hotel and during the selection we wanted to keep it light so chose not to have the tasting menu. Also I am in my second trimester so not all food is appetizing. My boyfriend mentioned that vegetables would be great such as a salad and he was told by the maître d' that a Michelin star restaurant does not serve salad. His attitude was patronizing and almost disdainful as if we were not good enough to eat at the restaurant because we were not drinking wine and had not chosen the tasting menu. In addition, our AC did not work in our room (#31) so be sure to ask about this as the evenings can be quite stifling and there are Mosquitos (which if you have O positive blood and are pregnant means you are the buffet) opening the balcony is not an option.

Leslie S.

Yelp
The view is beautiful and it has some lovely areas throughout with flowers. It's $7 to go in so not so bad.
