"Surrounded by the most splendid gardens on the Amalfi Coast, this historic Ravello property can trace its origins back to the 11th century. The villa was largely rebuilt in the early 1900s by Lord Grimthorpe (an English co-designer of Big Ben), and it soon attracted the likes of Virginia Woolf, Greta Garbo, and E.M. Forster. The sumptuously decorated suites include vaulted ceilings, Majolica tile floors, and cheerful frescoes. Michelin-starred restaurant Il Flauto di Pan serves elegant twists on homestyle local dishes, such as white rabbit ragù and marinated Cetara anchovies. But the villa’s simplest delight is also its most spectacular: Gore Vidal once said that the view from the garden’s belvedere was the most beautiful place in the world." - Jamie Spain

We stayed here for a night and loved it. It felt like a real life palace. Our superior room with garden view was large, comfortable and beautifully decorated. The restaurant, pool area and gardens are stunning as well. The whole property is like a fairytale. The overall service is very good, however there were a few little things like extra charges for additional bags on top of 2, which I’ve stayed in many 5 stars around the world and have never seen, especially at the price we paid to stay here. We also weren’t told of us this charge as it was a last minute booking however we had numerous conversations arranging the porter to pick up our bags. It would’ve been nice for this to have been mentioned as we brought additional bags we could’ve left behind. I also asked for a quiet area to take an important last minute call and was only given an open area right next to the reception which didn’t work as there was too much noise. I understood they said they didn’t have anywhere else, but then that night I discovered there were two libraries on the first floor, which although are open to hotel guests, are much quieter and more private than near the reception, which would’ve have been better but it wasn’t mentioned to me that these were available. Despite all this, Barbara at the front desk was a star in bringing me to our room before our check in was completed so I can take it from there. The staff at breakfast were superb. We overall loved our stay and would return.

I absolutely fell in love with the gardens! They’re incredibly charming, and you’ll find it hard to leave once you’re there. Gorgeous viewpoints of Amalfi Coast. It’s the perfect place to unwind—ideal for a peaceful retreat or a romantic getaway. If you love nature and tranquility, this is definitely the place to be. I visited for a day trip and wished I could stay longer or stayed at the hotel. If you go, be sure to enjoy a coffee or lunch at the restaurant and take in the stunning views while you dine.

The view from the restaurant terrace is the main event here - it’s heavenly! The climb from the village center (where we were staying), helps work up a good appetite, but sadly the food didn’t live up to expectations. We started with the local tomato and mozzarella salad - cheese was delicious, but the tomatoes were under ripe and disappointing. They should be glorious in late summer, but they were hard and had little flavor. Maybe it’s been a rainy summer this year… one of us ordered the mixed seafood girl and that was very good, but I ordered the red prawn and fennel risotto. Ok, to be scrupulously fair, risotto is not at all a local dish - it’s much more a northern Italian dish - but this was so bland and boring, that even dousing it with EVOO and seasoning failed to liven it up. There was zero discernible flavor of fennel, and only about a teaspoon of shrimp atop the dull, but creamy rice. Still, the cocktails were excellent, ditto the crisp local Ravello white wine, and service was also very good. Although the food was disappointing, we still really enjoyed our lunch - life is good with a gorgeous view and good wine!

The outside of the villa is beautiful, as are the gardens. The interior is in desperate need of a renovation, with bathrooms which have not been updated since the 90s/00s. Worst of all was the staff, I honestly can even begin to explain how rude they were. We were there for a destination wedding and when we arrived they informed us they did not have any irons in the room, but they could steam the clothes for us, makes sense as it’s a big wedding venue, so we accepted. When they arrived they were totally ruined, and it turns out we then had to pay for the steaming of our suits which was over 100€. When we complained about the steaming, because they had messed up the lapels, and stained the suits after re- steaming them 4 times… the manager, and cleaning staff insisted that we were lying and that it was not their fault. Luckily we had a picture to prove that they had stained it in the 15 min they had the suits, they then insisted we were still lying. I have never been shouted out, and accused like that by staff and management in any hotel establishment. Considering the rooms are 1,000€ a night, it’s totally unacceptable. Even after all that they insisted we paid for the steaming, which made us 1h late to the rehearsal dinner, and when we refused, the manager condescendingly said “everyone else paid for their extras”… well if you had not messed it up 4 times, maybe we would have been happy to pay. They also have no road access, so they pick your bags up in a little buggy in the town, and you walk the way, however they then charge for anything over 1 bag per person, like a backpack. They honestly are cheap, money hungry shameful staff, who are ruining a beautiful hotel. It’s a shame, but those sorts of things are due to bad management. Don’t waste your money!

I stayed for 3 nights in April. I am disabled (crutches) and the staff gave me thorough information on the rooms when I booked so I could choose something suitable. I chose a third floor room with a walk-up balcony for the sea view and was really pleased with my choice. There was a lift to 3rd floor so the only steps were to my balcony. Staff very kindly brought breakfast to the hotel terrace/bar since my crutches don’t work for a buffet. Delicious breakfast in the most beautiful setting. ||I already knew from a prior garden visit years before that the walk to Cimbrone is challenging but hotel provided information before my arrival about a local gentleman who can transport a visitor in a buggy (photo 3). I was happy to pay for this service that made the hotel/gardens reachable and once I was there I paid for an extra trip to/from the village to visit the other famous Ravello garden.||Because of my crutches I knew the only way I could properly see the garden was to stay on the premises and go back and forth between hotel and garden, which worked very well. It also gave me garden access before and after garden opening hours. I would definitely stay again and April was a nice month to visit - the garden was already pretty and away from the famous terrace the gardens were very quiet.||Everything wonderful - hotel, staff, garden. Yes, expensive - but worth it.

Add Ravello to your bucket list and go here! Go here to walk the garden and gorgeous grounds! I didn’t stay here #regrets but have never seen a real life place as if it was taken from the page of a story book. This looks like the perfect destination wedding back drop for your photos. I’m trying to convince someone to get married here so I have a great excuse to return! And I’m saying this was still gorgeous and romantic despite the weather being on a terrible gray, rainy day when we went in April. I’m dying to go back and see the Villa in the summer sunshine!

Google
This villa made sense of my walk in the Amalfi Coast. The road is a bit confusing until you get there, the navigation kept us confused as well as the local people about its location. There is a €10 entrance fee to see the gardens, then the most beautiful view follows - the vast blue sea and the beautifully manicured gardens. An impressive experience.

Google
The place was clean, the service fine but this nowhere NEAR a five star hotel. The room was outdated and I could hear everyone in the halls until late at night. I arrived through the garden and was barked at until they realized I was trying to check in. It’s not an awful place but it is WAY overpriced for what you get.

Yelp
For 10eu, you can experience spectacular views in a beautiful garden setting. The pics from this location were so worth it. We visited in May so many of the flowers were not in bloom, however, the statues, trellises, buildings, and greenery were equally beautiful. There are many things to enjoy in a garden year round. Ravello is a lovely little town so after the garden, check out some shops and stop for a cappuccino.

Yelp
Amazing hotel, amazing views, amazing garden, and amazing drinks. If you are a hotel guest and are lucky enough to have Lucas as your bartender, take the time to watch him ply his trade

Yelp
Double check everything. Wonderful room and stay. Beautiful gardens and we enjoyed the food. Staff inspires confidence in their work - Until a mistake happens - then the management puts the blame on you. We had a baggage mishap that was clearly their fault. They mixed our bags with another family when it came time to leave and we noticed a bag in our lot that did not belong to us. We flagged it but did not realize that one of our bags was with the other family. We drove off and when we found the mistake the manager said "we never make mistakes with bags" and " it was our responsibility to account for things. Made us pay to come back on our last day to get it costing significant money and time. If you read any negative review for them on Trip Advisor you'll see the same behavior - if there is a problem blame the guest. Arrogant and fragile behavior on behalf of management - setting up a house of cards for themselves. There are better places to stay. Visit the gardens then go back to a place where you're not treated poorly

Yelp
Hmmmmm to be very honest I'm kind of disappointed because this place is a Michelin star place and I had very high expectations of it. A friend of ours recommended this place while we were on our trip and I looked up this restaurant and the whole place and I was counting down the moments until I got to see it in person. I'm giving it a three star because the hotel and the whole place is absolutely stunning and heavenly that I can't even describe it in words. The garden and the restaurant are beautifully designed you will feel like you are walking in a little heaven on earth. The staff were one of the friendliest staff I had seen before, they immediately sat us down at a really nice table on the terrace with a breathtaking view. Now let's talk about why I'm giving it a three star. Again as a Michelin star restaurant I had very high expectations of the food. I ordered a pasta dish and of course why not I am in Italy. My pasta had absolutely no taste I had to add so much salt and pepper to it to be able to eat it. I know a lot of pasta dishes in Italy are Al Dente but this was AL DENTE DENTE like plasticky feeling. It was so hard to bite each piece. We were there with another couple so the four of us order a different dishes but my friend also ordered the same exact thing as mine. It was time to get the desert and we ordered two dessert for the whole table. I couldn't hold it in anymore so I asked everyone how they felt about their food and everyone just said how unhappy they were with the taste of the food. My friend said that her pasta was extremely tasteless and she also said the same thing about the pasta feeling very plasticky. We asked the guys and both of them Felt unhappy with their food. The dessert was OK I would give it a 4/10 but the food definitely 2/10 not even a 2 maybe. So sad. Hmmm very disappointing

Yelp
We ate lunch at Mediterraneo which we found to be excellent in terms of food, service, availability of reservations and beauty of surroundings. Had the best eggplant parmesan, lemon risotto, and a few other dishes recommended by our lovely waitress. Wish we had space for the delish desserts we saw...we'll try those next time. One of our best meals on our trip to Italy. I know that they have a fancy restaurant Fluto de Pan which is available in the evening but if you want to do something less fancy and with fresh local ingredients this is the place to go! An excellent way to spend a very hot afternoon eating under a cool shade on the balcony overlooking some of the most jaw dropping views of Amalfi. Go here, and afterwards walk in the gardens and see some of the most iconic views of Ravello captured for decades on film. Go here you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Villa Cimbrone is one of the most beautiful settings I've ever been to on this planet. It's a bit of a walk through town to get to, but the architecture, gardens and views, especially from the Terrace of Infinity, are one of a kind. I would love to return someday and actually stay at their hotel

Carol K.

Yelp
This review is for the Gardens at Villa Cimbrone which are stunning and a lovely way to spend a day outside enjoying the beautiful views. I did this as a day trip from Positano and the views along the way are almost as stunning as the gardens. Know before you go that there are a ton of stairs and climbing so this is not for anyone who has difficulty walking. But if you can do the walking and stair climbing, it is definitely worth it. You are dropped or can park in the town area where the plaza hosts plenty of places to eat, drink, shop or just sit and enjoy the people watching. Follow the signs and walk a ways and you will find yourself at the Garden of Villa Cimbrone. Used for weddings, and other special events, the grounds are simply gorgeous no matter what time of the year you go. They are a great example of English gardens in the mediterranean! And if you follow the map you will eventually end of at the "Terrace of Infinity" which is spectacular with it's views of the sea. The map that they give you will walk you thorough 12 different points in the garden. There is an entrance fee to get in but it is nominal. And if you need a restroom-they are located at the entrance so you may want to pop in there before heading out. A beautiful way to enjoy the Amalfi Coast!

Yelp
Cute little garden but I wouldn't go out of my way to go here. It's a hike to get to and you can cover the full garden in about 15-20 minutes. It does have a beautiful lookout point once you get there. Although youll get beautiful views anywhere in ravello.

Carol S.

Yelp
Gorgeous, hidden gem. Well worth a visit. There is a little cafe in addition to the Michelin star restaurant.

Peter C.

Yelp
Beautiful. Nothing but. The views I have seen in art work by the greats. The Villa is amazing - the restuarant service - not so good. I started with the smoked Scottish salmon then to the filet and porcini mushrooms. Excellent! The problem was the service - for such a beautiful place, the service was lacking. Maybe an employee quit, I don't know but there were omissions, a knife here, uncleared bowls there - I just expect more.

David G.

Yelp
Even in late October, where most of the flowers had retired for the season, Villa Cimbrone is a worthwhile expenditure of 7 euros and an hour of your time. The large formal gardens are very well tended, peaceful, serene, ... (you make up some more adjectives). The high point is the Infinity View which is a sharp drop off directly down to the Mediterranean - yes they have a small wall to keep you from tragedy when taking a selfie. The views from there are definitely stunning. The Villa is about a 0.5-1.0 km walk from town; just follow the signs or guess occasionally.

Yelp
This place is almost unreal. The grounds are the best and possible alone worth visiting. Hard to beat setting no doubt. But the staff absolutely sucked. Super small hotel at 19 rooms so small scale friendly service must be in order for a 5 star place. The guy managing the pool drinks and food would not get off his rear and was very rude. Over 90 degees and you had to go find him for a warm water. Our second day he literally told us the other restaurant on site had better food so not to seek him. Restaurant and lobby staff were mixed but most were cold and rude. A real turn off off. Oh and the ac was broken and our suite was 26c or 79f the whole time and they blew off any complaints. Other guests voiced the same concern. The physical place was a 10/10. The stay was not enjoyable because the staff ruined it. Stay nearby at a friendly well run hotel and just visit Villa Cimbrone for a small fee

Gourmand M.

Yelp
Villa Cimbrone is a place to see before you die! I cannot say enough beautiful things about this place. Everything was amazing. The restaurant was amazing, best bellini on the entire planet along with yummy dishes.

Jiemei G.

Yelp
Location and grounds are beautiful. The gardens especially are wonderful v quiet despite the tourists and the views are unparalleled. It does have a lot of stairs so be prepared for a workout. Service is mediocre as it ranges. The breakfast service is very attentive and the front desk as well, always helpful as they arranged for breakfast to be a little earlier when we had to leave for Capri. The breakfast buffet includes eggs, bacon, sausage fruit dry cereals and pastries. The coffee and teas are superb. The terrace is also great for reading and relaxing. It was a bit cold to use the pool but it looked heavenly. We ate at the restaurant where the food was ok. The service was atrocious at best as we were actually insulted by the maître d'. We had traveled all day to reach the hotel and during the selection we wanted to keep it light so chose not to have the tasting menu. Also I am in my second trimester so not all food is appetizing. My boyfriend mentioned that vegetables would be great such as a salad and he was told by the maître d' that a Michelin star restaurant does not serve salad. His attitude was patronizing and almost disdainful as if we were not good enough to eat at the restaurant because we were not drinking wine and had not chosen the tasting menu. In addition, our AC did not work in our room (#31) so be sure to ask about this as the evenings can be quite stifling and there are Mosquitos (which if you have O positive blood and are pregnant means you are the buffet) opening the balcony is not an option.

Leslie S.

Yelp
The view is beautiful and it has some lovely areas throughout with flowers. It's $7 to go in so not so bad.
