Villa della Pergola

"Two nineteenth-century villas on the Italian Riviera with hilltop views of the Ligurian Sea. The showstopper is the two-acre garden, with its wisteria-covered pergolas, little fountains, quiet leafy areas, and climbing roses."

Villa della Pergola (Alassio, Italian Riviera) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"For his first film, The Pleasure Garden, Alfred Hitchcock chose the grounds of Villa della Pergola as a shooting location. The terraced botanical gardens, located on the western coast of Liguria in northern Italy, are even more photogenic today, thanks to modern restoration — and just as impressive is the villa itself, one of three opulent 19th-century mansions that make up this luxury hotel. A range of architectural styles are represented, but the grandeur is consistent throughout the museum-like property: think dramatic staircases and high archways, abundant statuary and delicate watercolors, striking marble floors and massive fireplaces. Breakfast is a treat, with products sourced from the garden, and the restaurant, open to the public, is a destination for foodies." - Tablet Hotels

The hotel/villa is up a narrow winding road (but walkable) from Alassio, and is in the center of beautiful botanical gardens (Part of FAI). There are several buildings, from the Villa della Pergola itself to the spa (with rooms above) and other buildings with rooms (19 rooms in total, though the hotel is in the process of expansion expected to be completed in 2027 with more rooms and a new restaurant - and apparently a funicular up from the town). The staff could not be more welcoming and helpful. The Michelin restaurant is excellent. The infinity pool overlooking the sea is wonderful (and the water is warm). It’s hard to believe you are so close to Alassio. An incredible stay but way too short (3 days). I will stay longer next time, maybe in the spring for the blooms.

We live in Alassio just a few minutes by car from Villa Della Pergola and we heard many great things about this property - especially about its wonderful gardens. In May 2025 we were expecting our second child and decided to take some family photos there. As it is not possible to enter the property easily, I booked a lunch at its famous restaurant Nove to see it from "inside". The experience was quite nice, the restaurant decoration is beautiful and the food was decent. Unfortunately my wife found a piece of plastic (approx. 5x8mm) in her sorbet what was quite disappointing. This should not happen at a 1-Michelin Star. After the lunch I met with the hotel manager and told her about our intention to book a room to have access to gardens and do the photo-shooting there. She replied it would be possible but mentioned two things: 1. the hotel welcomes children from 12yrs only so our 3yrs son would not be allowed to enter 2. family photos can be used for personal and not for commercial use We were ok with both conditions and 2weeks later I booked a room for 2nights. We live just 3km from the hotel and the only purpose of the stay was to do the photo-shooting so I wanted to be 100% sure there wont be any problems. I exchanged several emails about this topic with the front desk and received a written confirmation saying: "As per the photos, if they are personal photos and not for commercial use, you can freely walk inside the property and take the shots that you prefer inside our wonderful gardens." I also studied their hotel terms & conditions very carefully and there was no information that would prohibit taking photos for personal use. On the day of arrival I asked at the check-in whether it would be possible to bring our friend the next day who would stay just for 2-3hrs and help us to take photos. I made it clear we would definitely not disturb other hotel guests. I was told this needed to be checked. At 10.30PM I received an email with an official quotation - EUR9,900 (nine thousand nine hundred euros!!) for Private Event / Photography Session that would allow to bring a photographer to hotel premises for 3hrs. It left me very confused. The next morning after the breakfast I met with the hotel manager, the same person to whom I spoke to 2weeks ago. I expected we could resolve the problem easily but I was wrong. She kept repeating it is not allowed to bring a third person to the gardens what I understood and I asked whether it would be acceptable if I would book a room for her as well. I received a negative answer with explanation that everyone with a camera (not a mobile phone) is automatically seen as a professional photographer. I was even told it was not allowed to take personal photos inside the room by hotel guests using a camera (not a mobile phone). I wonder how they would like to enforce this rule? What disappointed me the most was that the very same person heard from me saying 2weeks earlier: "...we live nearby and book one or two nights at your hotel just to do a photo-shooting with our family." She did tell me about the children's age restriction so why she didnt mention that it was not allowed to take photos by other device than a mobile phone?! My wife was extremely disappointed and so was I. We decided to relax at the swimming pool but another disappointment came - there was a massive construction site in front of it (again, not communicated during the booking or check-in). Unless you are an engineering fan who loves cranes, you wont enjoy the view.

An absolute gem. Very exclusive feeling, friendly staff, amazing breakfast, large shower. The history of the place and the fantastic botanical garden surrounding us were added benefits. Our suite had marvelous views of Alassio and the sea. We are both spoiled and picky and this is among the best places we ever stayed in. I struggle to find anything to complain about but they had forgotten to put on the steam sauna :) We will surely be back.

This is a stunning hotel located on a hill overlooking Alassio and the Mediterranean. The building is beautiful and renovated to the highest standards. We got a wonderful room overlooking the sea. The service is immaculate. I highly recommend dinner at the in-house 1* Michelin restaurant. Unfortunately we could only stay one night but we will for sure return for a longer stay. Be aware that accessing the hotel by car is a challenge given the rather steep and narrow lanes up the hill.

What a wonderful place! We stayed for 8 nights and enjoyed every single one of them.|The service was outstanding, and Lina made our stay truly special.||The restaurant and kitchen are of very high quality; the wine list is excellent, and the service was extremely professional. Thanks to many great people like Christian, Michele, Angelo, and many other wonderful staff members, we felt at home from the very beginning.||The pool was managed by Mauricio—what a great guy! Not only the guardian of the pool area, but also someone who can tell you everything about the history of the property and the surroundings.||The spa was fantastic as well. Roberta took great care of my partner, and the massages were of excellent quality.||The property and the surrounding nature are beautiful. The sea is close by, and the walk from the hotel to the city kept us healthy and energetic.||We are already looking forward to coming back!

The hotel offers everything you would expect from a five-star property: elegance, comfort, and impeccable service. The staff is outstanding, attentive and always kind, especially the front desk team. A special thank you to the director for her availability and professionalism. She knows how to adapt to each guest with grace, shows genuine attentiveness, and always finds the right solution to make every stay as pleasant as it is unforgettable. Her warm and discreet presence is a real asset to this exceptional place.

Several things to look out for at this hotel.||We stayed there in mid June 2025 and arrived on a very hot day after a drive from Nice in a hire car. The approach to the hotel is extremely difficult to navigate by car. it is at the top of a very steep hill and the approach is a narrow one lane road with several hairpin bends. There is no mention of this on their website.||The dining area is strictly demarcated. On our arrival we made our way to a table in order to eat lunch while our room was being made up. having just arrived, we were hot and tired. We asked if we could be seated under the large shade at a table next to us. we were informed that this would have to be 'checked with the manager'. Despite the area only having one family in the dining area this was refused as we had been placed on a different menu. the inflexibility was staggering.||This hotel will be extremely challenging for anyone with impairments. The infinity pool and spa can only be reached by several steep flights of stairs and it shuts at 5pm! Incredible at these prices and in such hot weather.||They also charge a cool 10 euros for room service.

Staying at Villa Della Pergola feels like staying in paradise. The staff is wonderful and Livia, Simone, Valeria and Leonardo and their colleagues made our stay truly delightful. They absolutely manage to make the impossible possible and are the utmost attentive. The villa overlooking Alassio and the sea and blossoming, lush garden are magical! The last thing you want to do is having to leave and go back down the tiny round that leads up to this heavenly place.
