Villa della Pergola

"Two nineteenth-century villas on the Italian Riviera with hilltop views of the Ligurian Sea. The showstopper is the two-acre garden, with its wisteria-covered pergolas, little fountains, quiet leafy areas, and climbing roses."

A truly exceptional place! Villa della Pergola is a peaceful haven of rare beauty, with breathtaking views over Alassio that immediately immerse you in authentic Italy. The hotel offers everything you would expect from a five-star property: elegance, comfort, and impeccable service. The staff is outstanding, attentive and always kind, especially the front desk team. A special thank you to the director for her availability and professionalism. She knows how to adapt to each guest with grace, shows genuine attentiveness, and always finds the right solution to make every stay as pleasant as it is unforgettable. Her warm and discreet presence is a real asset to this exceptional place.

Several things to look out for at this hotel.||We stayed there in mid June 2025 and arrived on a very hot day after a drive from Nice in a hire car. The approach to the hotel is extremely difficult to navigate by car. it is at the top of a very steep hill and the approach is a narrow one lane road with several hairpin bends. There is no mention of this on their website.||The dining area is strictly demarcated. On our arrival we made our way to a table in order to eat lunch while our room was being made up. having just arrived, we were hot and tired. We asked if we could be seated under the large shade at a table next to us. we were informed that this would have to be 'checked with the manager'. Despite the area only having one family in the dining area this was refused as we had been placed on a different menu. the inflexibility was staggering.||This hotel will be extremely challenging for anyone with impairments. The infinity pool and spa can only be reached by several steep flights of stairs and it shuts at 5pm! Incredible at these prices and in such hot weather.||They also charge a cool 10 euros for room service.

Staying at Villa Della Pergola feels like staying in paradise. The staff is wonderful and Livia, Simone, Valeria and Leonardo and their colleagues made our stay truly delightful. They absolutely manage to make the impossible possible and are the utmost attentive. The villa overlooking Alassio and the sea and blossoming, lush garden are magical! The last thing you want to do is having to leave and go back down the tiny round that leads up to this heavenly place.

I’ve stayed at many lovely Relais & Chateaux properties in Europe and the U.S., and not one has come close to the exceptional stay at Villa Della Pergola. To arrive, wend your way up a hillside just above Alassio overlooking the ocean, snd find yourself at the impeccably restored villa that sits on six acres of historic terraced stunning gardens, rated the top in Italy last year. The property’s 19 rooms are in different buildings and are decorated with antiques, silk drapes and Frette linens for the bed and robes. The infinity pool is breathtaking, and the staff there are in the spa attendant to your every need. The gym is spotless and well-outfitted, and I loved the sauna, steam bath, misting showers and fresh crushed ice to do a hot and cold ritual for my body. And…the facial and massage from Roberta were so expertly done and restorative, she may be one of the best masseuses I’ve ever had. The management staff is so kind and bent over backwards to make our stay perfect, from the delicious breakfast with hand-squeezed citrus juice from the gardens, to arranging cabs, making reservations and ensuring we were comfortable. The walk to Alassio is very short and the shopping street there is a fun way to spend the afternoon. My friends and I felt we had landed in a magical unicorn of a place. If you need relaxation and pampering while surrounded by natural beauty, this is your place.

This is the most beautiful, quiet and relaxing place to stay in what was once an English villa with exquisite gardens overlooking the sea from a hillside. |The only reason we unfortunately could only rate 4 stars is because of the service issues in the main restaurant, which is a one star Michelin, specifically at breakfast but also somewhat at dinner. The food at dinner is excellent. |The pool area is fantastic and the poolside beds so comfortable and relaxing. The gardens are a pure delight to explore. |This is a romantic hideaway and we would definitely return.

We splurged on Villa della Pergola on a whim and it was the best part of our European trip. The attention to detail, the service and the beauty of the Villa were worth every penny. The staff was so attentive, giving us a welcome drink, telling us all about the history of the Villa, and making sure our every need was fulfilled. The rooms, the facility were all exceptional. We loved the infinity pool and the morning breakfasts. I can't wait to return !

The pleasures of Villa Pergola include: that it's set in a botanical garden that is exquisitely curated and maintained; that its position on top of the "hill" provides it with incredible views over the sea; that the rooms are supplied with everything you might need to make your stay comfortable. Our room had high ceilings, large windows, comfortable chairs, and a wrap-around balcony with chaises lounges and a table and chairs. As others have described, the buildings (as well as the pool area and spa) are spread over the footprint of the grounds. You will need to be able to walk up and down, plus face a number of steps. Four of us, all over 70, had no problem with any of it. |Perhaps the true key to the superiority of Villa Pergola is the staff. The general manager, the asst manager, the young people serving at meals, the crackerjack housekeeping staff, the gardeners... all are helpful, friendly (without being overly friendly) and warm. It makes people feel welcome and happy. And it makes them want to return. Thank you Nadie, Lina, and all the people who work hard to make Villa Pergola such a magical place. We hope to be back soon!
