Villa Extramuros

We spent three days in the villa at the end of June. With Villa Extramuros, the two hosts have created an incredibly beautiful, inviting and finely curated oasis with great ambition and feeling. Spacious rooms, wonderful views and fine details. Breakfast and dinner in the courtyard were enchanting. Around the house, garden and pool you can move around undisturbed and like at home, that's what makes it so special.

Staying at Villa Extramuros was extraordinary and incredibly chilled. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this place is a rare gem, an architectural masterpiece set against the stunning backdrop of the Alentejo countryside. The design is striking: bold, modern, and seamlessly integrated into its natural surroundings. Every angle and material choice feels intentional, sophisticated, and deeply inspiring. If you are an architecture buff like me then you will appreciate every corner, angle and perspective of this place! But what truly sets Villa Extramuros apart is the hospitality. The hosts, Francois and Jean Christophe, welcomed us with genuine warmth. They have created a space that feels more like a private, curated experience than a traditional hotel stay. Their attention to detail is evident in every corner, from the meticulously chosen interior design elements to the way our room opened up to breathtaking views of the landscape. The food was another standout for us and served with deep care - it was simple yet exceptional. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients, including some from their own personal garden were prepared with elegance and care, served in an atmosphere that makes every meal feel special. Whether it was a relaxed breakfast in the courtyard or a thoughtful evening spread, every bite was a testament to their passion for quality and comfort. Service throughout our stay was impeccable: attentive without being intrusive, personal without being overbearing. There’s a genuine care here that’s increasingly rare to find - it’s clear that the Francois and Jean Christophe take real pride in offering an experience that’s as memorable as it is meaningful. Villa Extramuros is more than just a place to stay - it’s a destination in itself. A perfect balance of design, authenticity, and hospitality. I can’t recommend it highly enough and look forward to returning.

Gorgeous architectural property in the countryside. We arrived during the big April power outage in Portugal. Our hosts were absolutely charming and had made dinner for us, as there were no other options because of the power failure. So sweet! We loved the scent of orange blossoms in the courtyard. The entire property encourages relaxation and tranquility. Exceptional experience!

If you're planning a visit to alentejo I recommend a stay here. It is incredibly serene, but the location makes it a perfect base camp to explore the region. Francois has curated a perfect space. Jacques provides a wonderful balance for breakfast and the dinner, if you book it. The only drawback of our stay was the air conditioning. It was much too hot in Evora for it and the room was a bit stuffy. We asked Francois for a fan and this solved it!

Exceptional place and excellent hosting! The architecture (and decoration) of Villa Extramuros is beautiful. The most wonderful swimming pool and surrounding grounds. Perfect place for relaxing and recharging as well as to explore the surrounding Alentejo region. Very good breakfast included. Can't recommend enough staying at Villa Extramuros in Arraiolos. Perfection!

Villa Extramuros’s architecture has a strong sense of place, using local materials that blend beautifully into the Alentejo landscape. The interiors are stylish yet comfortable, with a clear emphasis on quality design and craftsmanship. We enjoyed relaxing among the olive trees and exploring the surrounding region—Arraiolos and its tapestry traditions were a highlight. During our stay, an unexpected heatwave in May made the pool especially welcome. The very generous, freshly prepared breakfast each morning was excellent—and often meant we couldn’t have two meals a day! It was the perfect place to chill after a hectic Lisbon!

An astoundingly beautiful hotel in impressive settings, with fantastic hosts that are friendly and helpful. A great place to relax, recharge, and get to know the Alentejo. Excellent breakfasts as well!

We spent 9 days at the villa. It was wonderful! The villa is a beautiful modern building with fabulous decor. The owners have incorporated many Portuguese crafts in the decor ie. pottery, blankets, cork. Rooms are spacious and well appointed. Breakfasts were delicious with the owners using locally produced items. We especially loved the lemon marmalade and the passion fruit gelato! The pool was gorgeous and very refreshing after our day trips the area. The villa is about an hour away from Lisbon and is a great location for exploring the many unique towns, villages and of course the wineries.|Francois provided great recommendations for restaurants and sights in the area.|We highly recommend staying at Villa Extramuros. You’ll love it!
