12 Fall Foliage Destinations in Canada That Promise Colorful Leaves, Glamping Experiences, and Scenic Train Rides | Condé Nast Traveler

"Villa Eyrie Resort in British Columbia promises sweeping views of changing leaves below. Located just outside Victoria on Vancouver Island, The Buchart Gardens have been growing some of the brightest blooms for over a century. Stay at Villa Eyrie and dine above the clouds at Alpina Restaurant, which offers a 180-degree view of the changing coastal rainforest trees from above."

Villa Eyrie Resort (Vancouver Island, British Columbia) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Built in a spectacular spot a short drive north of Victoria, Villa Eyrie is something unusual: an homage to the luxury villas of Italy, but with a view not of Lake Como but of Saanich Inlet and the mountains of lower Vancouver Island. The décor has been updated from ’80s Italianate kitsch to understated contemporary luxury, and the comforts, both in-room and in the Tuscan Spa, are thoroughly up to date. Most surprising of all is the restaurant, Alpina, whose chefs trained in Italy, Germany, and Switzerland, and whose dishes craft classic European flavors from native British Columbia ingredients." - Tablet Hotels

We have stayed at this resort in the past and were very impressed with the experience. Yesterday we were driving by and thought we’d pop in to the Alpina Restaurant for breakfast. Everything was outstanding - the food, staff and view of Finlayson Arm from the table. Our waitress Kayla was top notch! Friendly, efficient, attentive and very thoughtful. Highly recommend this resort and restaurant!

We just returned from two delightful days at Villa Eyrie Tuscan Resort at the top of the Malahat Pass in southern Vancouver Island. What a welcome respite! We booked it for a quick couples getaway and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Our room was spacious with a fantastic view down Findlayson Arm. We had two breakfasts and a dinner at the restaurant which were all excellent. My wife had a massage that she couldn’t stop raving about. And I took a day to explore the Cowichan Valley’s burgeoning winery scene, which was also impressive. Great, friendly and helpful staff—Izzy, and Taylor in the dining room and Jordana in the spa especially stood out. Beautiful grounds. Great option for folks exploring Vancouver Island. Watch for their three-nights-for the price of two special in the fall.

Staff were all so helpful and genuinely interested in making my wife and I's 2-night stay the best possible, bringing a microwave and additional heater to the room to ensure our comfort and convenience. The room was with a view that was AMAZING!! The Level 2 EV charger was the fastest I've seen in a long time. Top notch restaurant and food. Highly recommended resort.

Beautiful views and great food. Dined here for the first time..food was exceptional..service was great. I had beet salad..mushroom ravioli with scallops..probably the yummiest food I’ve had after a long time. I highly recommend. The freshly baked bread was delicious. I took one star off..due to floor/carpet around our dining table had food particles from lunch service. Front entrance washroom needed cleaning badly. These minor details can be easily fixed. Thanks for a great food experience..I will be back. ❤️🙏🏽🌷

The Villa Eyrie is one of the most beautiful resorts, that I've had the pleasure of staying at. All the staff helped make our stay welcoming and relaxing. I want to send a special thanks to Samantha Johnson, who went above and beyond. The dining, the wine, the room - everything was absolutely perfect! We will be back, and highly recommend if you are looking spectacular!

We chose to stay local for our 3rd year anniversary and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. Villa Eyrie Resort was amazing in every aspect of our stay. We booked a one night stay at the Villa Cielo jr penthouse, what a treat! The views were surreal and the soaker tub overlooking the Finlayson Arm was just a bonus. We also booked our dinner at Alpina restaurant. Molly, our server, was wonderful. We recommend getting the table side service for tiramisu, so yummy. We went here for brunch for mother’s day and we will keep coming back.

Wonderful staff. Wonderful service. Incredible Food. Incredible view. My husband and I have become usuals here after having our wedding at the Villa Cielo last year and we are always blown away by the entire service and quality. Speaking of, their wedding service was seamless and beautiful, for which I am forever grateful. Since we have held many more birthdays and celebrations and love to bring our guests here. The restaurant manager, Jack, is such a wonderful charm, and always makes us feel like old friends, and we have built so many fond memories of the resort because of him. The waitresses are always polite, wonderful, and professional. We look forward to many more celebrations and memories here.

A new favourite, Villa Eyrie is one of the most tranquil and beautiful places I’ve ever stayed. We spent most of our time lounging on the balcony, watching eagles soar over the trees, and marveling at what an incredible experience it was. We did manage to peel ourselves away for a moment—just to return to the view from the Alpina patio, where we enjoyed a wonderful dinner that left us satisfied and content. The staff were absolutely lovely—gracious, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Their kindness and calm presence added so much to the overall sense of peace and relaxation. I can’t recommend Villa Eyrie enough, and I’m already looking forward to returning very soon.

Yelp
Just on the ferry home from 3 great nights at the Villa Eyrie. The staff was just wonderful, starting with Lindsay, who upgraded us into an amazing room in the Villa Cielo. She was so on the ball, extremely professional, and will undoubtedly do great whatever direction her career goes. We rented the vintage Mercedes for the day, and had absolute blast in that car, mind you we more than likely ended the day with a bit of heat stroke, but totally worth it. Didn't hit the pool, but did get in a couple of workouts in the fitness centre, which is pretty decent for a hotel gym. Only thing would have liked for there to have been a washroom available at the fitness centre. I understand that it's in the works. The restaurant at the resort is fine dining with a spectacular view. Just excellent. Another nice surprise is breakfast at the Summit restaurant was included. SCORE! The place is a world class resort, the rates are very reasonable, and if you want to get away and spend a few nights in the most gorgeous resort on Vancouver Island, this place should be on your radar. Definitely going back!

Yelp
The food at the restaurant was great! We enjoyed all three meals we ate there. Five stars. The resort itself was quite disappointing. Yes, the view is incredible, but view aside, the resort had nothing to offer. I felt catfished by the website- clearly what I was looking at and what we got were two very different things. I must have missed the fine print. We got a classic view room and it was the smallest and most lacking room we've ever stayed in. Small bed, small room, small sink with no room to put your toiletries. Nothing about the room said resort. Quite a disappointing experience.

Yelp
This review is almost entirely about the restaurant on April 9th, 2022, where I would like to point out that the food was excellent but the service there was inexcusably terrible. We were seated and left for 20 minutes without so much as being offered a glass of water. I finally flagged down the server (with whom I had made eye contact several times but was ignored) and she brought water and then said she would go get our "real" server who was trying to fix a problem with the debit machine. The same person who brought our water then returned, so I have no idea what happened to the person who was supposed to serve us. We gave our appie, drink and meal orders all at once and received our drink and appie (which was just bread) immediately. Then our server did not return for another 40 minutes. No check to see how we were or to offer more drinks. Nothing. When our meals finally arrived 40 mins after the appie we ate them (delicious) but our server did not come to check whether or not we liked them until all three of us had finished the entire meal. She also served the meals and left before we could ask for more drinks. When the server returned we were finished the meals and so instead of asking if we had enjoyed then she said "clearly you enjoyed them" because it was apparent by our body language that we were not impressed with her service. I requested the cheque and asked her to come back in two mins for payment while I found my card, however she never returned. Eventually I took the cheque and my credit card to the counter to pay. It is important to note that we would have been perfectly fine with slow service if anyone had ever explained and apologized, or even if they had remotely appeared to care at all. If we had been told they were short staffed, or if the server had said she was sorry for forgetting our waters because she was so busy or literally anything at all, it would have been fine. Instead I constantly made eye contact and was continually ignored to the point where it was beyond ridiculous and just so rude. There was no excuse for that and the whole experience was a major disappointment. As far as the hotel goes ... the room was lovely but the noise from footsteps above was a 10/10. It sounded like elephants were walking overhead, and I'm doubtful it was on purpose. I think it is just that loud. I highly recommend skipping this place.

Yelp
This place is amazing! If you want to visit downtown Victoria but also want the charm of the Pacific Northwest/Canada this is the place for you. I stumbled upon this restaurant and resort while googling and I'm so happy I did. I've eaten all over the world and The summit restaurant on the property is hands down one of my favorite restaurants I've ever eaten at. The views are unbeatable. I can't even explain how in love I am with this little gem of a resort. If you're coming over on the ferry for a day or two with a rental car I recommend staying here instead of in the city. It's so charming and you get the best of both worlds. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This hotel has been added to the list of "small luxury hotels around the world". It is tucked in between the beautiful mountains of the PNW, atop Malahat summits and overlooks the Saanich inlet just south of Cowichan bay. The view is absolutely mesmerizing. Being located atop Malahat mountain, it tends to be foggy a lot which does not give you much of a view, but on a sunny day, the picturesque view is breathtaking. With no traffic, it takes you about 20 minutes to get to Victoria. They do have a restaurant there, Alpina which has good food, but that is about it when it comes to having options. We did drive a lot back and forth between Victoria and Villa Eyrie, just to enjoy the semi night life and have options as far as dining was concerned. Amenities of the room include a jetted tub, which by itself is pretty amazing. The room looks really good at first, but once you have been in there for a little while, you start wondering if it is really a five-star hotel. The bathroom sinks were not really clean and there were stains around the drain. The tub was not fully clean. Our coffee maker outlet was not working, the tv cable box was not working and the insulation is really subpar. Every movement in the stairs and you would fully hear it and if people closed/opened the doors to the building, our door would move with it. On our second day there, the room service seemed to have been in a rush as the bed was not made and towels were not replenished, but the rest of the room seemed to have been cleaned. The front desk is nice and friendly. They did send someone to fix the cable and offered free breakfast because of the coffeemaker issue. Later, they also brought an outlet extender to plug the coffeemaker to a different outlet and fixed that too. Overall, it was a really good hotel and I would have been extremely happy staying in there for a different price and knowing it is not five stars. I just didn't think it deserved 5 stars with so many hit and misses.

Yelp
My little family was very very happy with our stay. The room with view was amazing! The view feels like heaven. The staff were great and friendly! The pool my 16 month old loves it and enjoys it a lot. And staying in the jetted tub after the pool and relax to watch tv was a plus factor. The complimentary breakfast were amazing! This place is a jewel! And I hope it attracts more people to see the view and stay at this villa. My husband and I were extremely satisfied with our stay. Photo attached was the view from the Driver's lounge where we had our breakfast. Oh my! If this was closer, we will always go back and stay. Next time we go back to Victoria, we'd definitely go again. Definitely.

Yelp
My cousin and I booked a mid-week, 2-night stay to "get away" for a treat without our husbands ... Resort Overall - the resort itself is very nice, set on the side of a hill (bring your climbing shoes!) with great views and lots of greenery ... very pretty gardens and a bright red Alfa Romeo Spyder to rent for a few hours (I'd try that another time!) ... we both felt that it did not measure up to the pricey rate that we were charged ($535/night including taxes and breakfast) ... for that price, we would expect things to be much more "on" than they were for us. Too bad ... it's a great location and could be a fabulous experience ... ours was not that. Rooms - the room we had was comfortable, 2 queen-sized beds were excellent, pillows a bit too firm and air conditioning was great. A bar fridge was available for us to chill water and some snack foods we picked up on the way to the resort. A large soaker bathtub in the middle of the room was a bit odd - perhaps for a more romantic trip, although it wouldn't even appeal to me for romance! The bathroom has a large walk-in shower and 2 sinks, which is great for 2 people getting ready at the same time. Overall, the room was great. Note - there is no room service for the restaurant or bar ... Spa - we both had set appointments at the spa. The online "booking" system is more like a "request" system, as none of the times we requested were available when we were emailed as a follow-up to the online "requests". One of us had appointments confirmed, the other did not ... we phoned to follow up on the day of our arrival and one of the appointments had not been booked, Fortunately, we were able to then confirm a time but this is a definite "gap" in service. While one of us was in the midst of receiving service, the water pump was either shut down or stopped on its own, leaving treatment creams, salts and other ingredients not able to be showered off ... 20% off of the service was provided, but this feels like another service gap. It was a very uncomfortable experience. The lounge for pre/post-service is comfortable. There were no changing facilities, and we had to change in a restroom ... all other services were fabulous and the products available for purchase are top-quality (Phytomer). Pool - the pool is inside an enclosed area, making it a very warm space in hot weather, which we had during our stay. It is located away from the spa, at the top of the main part of the resort. There are lots of towels available at the pool but you wouldn't know it until you get there - maybe it would help to have a little card in the room to say pool towels available at the pool. There are several outdoor seating areas near the pool, with nice patio furniture. There seemed to be large swarms of wasps hanging around the seating, making it uncomfortable to relax there. We did not stay long, as the wasps were quite aggressive. Restaurant - we were quite excited to try the restaurant, as we had seen many good reviews and the menu posted online looked delicious. Unfortunately, the restaurant was disappointing. The menu was changed from the version that was posted online, with many of the dishes we had wanted to try being changed to other, unappealing dishes. The tuna crudo that we decided to share as an appetizer was tasty but tiny, thus we each got approximately 2 bites of it. The short rib was fork tender but the barbecue sauce was too sweet and the plate was covered, and not attractively arranged, with edamame. The broccolini served with the short rib was tasty. The "special" was a pasta dish with short rib, spinach and cheese that the server pronounced as "porkerino" - my friend said it was quite tasty... the bite that I tried tasted like potatoes. Our second dinner was a bit more successful, but (yes, but!) we ordered a dish of scallops that were actually served to us at a mediocre-warm temperature. They were served with a tasty, warmer orange-ginger sauce and the large-sized scallops were seared but definitely not hot enough. The tenderloin steak was delicious and cooked as requested. My friend had the short rib this time, requesting the barbecue sauce "on the side". She enjoyed hers. We ordered after dinner lattes that were very poorly made, mostly milk. We decided to just not have coffee and returned to our room with our wine, which was discounted for "Winesday"! Our booking included breakfast in the restaurant, which was very good both times. The service both for dinner and breakfast was not great, very slow and somewhat uninformed.

Yelp
A truly spectacular experience from start to finish. Outstanding service amazing views and delectable food are just the beginning. We found this amazing place by accident. One of the happiest accidents on our trip! The manager Jordan did his level best to take great care to see that our Experience was top-of-the-line. Another mention for Morgan who was welcoming welcoming and hospitable. The whole experience was truly an elegant. I highly recommend making sure you don't miss this experience.

Yelp
We found this super sweet spot by accident, a very happy accident! Driving from Tofino to Victoria, a massive traffic jam & a road side sign: LODGING Villa Eyrie. We exited & in minutes were in a beautifully appointed & very comfy room. Wine on an outdoor deck, a delicious dinner @ the Summit, excellent & refreshing slumber in our room, a perfect breakfast...& ALL w/ a breathtaking view of Finlayson Arm and snow-capped mountains. A late checkout, an excellent deep-tissue massage & manicure, & we were back on the road. It was immaculate, w/ incomparable views & competent & professional staff. A spontaneous & too brief respite in a little slice of heaven...a 5 Star rating is not lofty enough!

Yelp
We stopped in to have a lovely lunch on the patio. Amazing view and the food is top quality. Our server Carrie was charming and spot on. Definitely would highly recommend. Thank you Carrie and the Eyrie Team. We will celebrate be back.

Yelp
A bunch of italianate stucco and liveried staff makes this place look like a cross between a mafia hideout and a La Quinta. Sadly, the cuisine is more La Quinta though the wine list isn't bad (but could have far more local offerings). With such a naturally fabulous surrounding, I was surprised and dismayed by the kitsch, ostentatious as it was.

Yelp
The views are outstanding and the staff are amazing. If you come in by ferry from Vancouver, pick up some macarons at the station, get some of the bubbly Rosé here and sit on the deck and enjoy the scenery or sit by your fireplace. The staff is so attentive and helpful. The food is delicious at the restaurant and you can't beat the view. I had the lemon ricotta blueberry pancakes... incredible!
