Villa Garenne

We rate Villa Garenne 10 out of 10. After relying on Airbnb for so long, I had forgotten how wonderful Chambre d'hotes can be. This chambre d’hote was wonderful, quiet and classy. It is located perfectly, just steps from the gate to the old city and across the street from a beautiful garden and fortress, and also out of the very tourist-crowded walled city. Two free outdoor parking lots are nearby: three level St. Joseph's just around the corner, and Parking des Capucins. Our host has years of experience running hotels and it shows. Every detail is attended to from the decor and cleanliness to the delicious breakfast and helpful advice. We whole-heartedly recommend this lovely place. (N.B. Google maps took us to the street address 3bis rather than 3, just a bit further downhill.)

The breakfast consisted of fresh local produce and homemade jams and baked goods. They have a small private garden to relax after the day of exploring. Definitely recommend!|If you need a parking, use the public one on the marina. It’s very close and there are never in issue to find a spot.

My wife and I spent 4 nights at Villa Garenne in May. While we were initially concerned by the location of the entrance (on a small side street), our concerns were immediately put to rest when we met our innkeepers. Helen (pronounced Ellen) and Robert were very welcoming and were the ultimate in gracious hosts. Both of them spent considerable time and effort to help us sort out a rental car issue. Not sure what we would have done without them. But beyond that, they took time to review our maps and plans and offer helpful advice. Robert carried our luggage up the stairs (a considerable task considering we were on extended holiday) and Ellen laid out a delightful French breakfast each morning, all sourced locally. I particularly enjoyed the selection of fresh breads and jams.||The location is directly across from the main gate of the old walled city of Vannes. We were able to easily explore, shop and dine, all within an easy walk. ||Now for a few practical items to consider. There is no on-site parking, but we were able to park in a very close public lot, so this was no issue at all. If you are planning to arrive by car during high season, parking may be a bit of a challenge. The home was build mid 19th century (~1850), guest rooms are on the 3rd floor with a central staircase. If you have an issue with stairs, you may want to look elsewhere.||In summary, wonderful hospitality and great location.

We stayed in the Music Room! The one pictured in the photo. We loved every minute. The room was lovely, the breakfast so delicious and the owners so helpful and thoughtful. It was beyond our expectations. The location cant be beat, the bed comfy and the establishment was quiet despite its central location. We would come back in a heartbeat. Overall a 5 star experience.

We stayed here for four nights. We arrived by train and took a taxi to our accommodation (certainly recommend doing this as it is about a 20 minute walk to the station; we did do this walk when we did a day trip to Quimper – fine without luggage). We received a warm welcome on our arrival and the hospitality throughout our stay was wonderful. It was more like sharing someone’s home rather than being in a hotel. We were in the Music Room. It was clean, comfortable and we had plenty of space. The bed was comfortable, the shower good and the breakfasts great (all local produce apart from the pineapple). There is a small sitting room and a small garden available for guests to use. Villa Garenne is situated just outside the old town and the tourist office is about 500 metres away (flat walk). Would we use La Villa Garenne again? Most definitely!

My wife and I stayed here for 5 night. It has a charming atmosphere. The design and decor is tasteful and well thought out. It is clean and efficiently run. The breakfasts are delicious. And the position right next to the old town and the Harbour is so convenient and close to everything in Vannes. Helen who runs the place is friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this place and would stay there if we come again.
