Villa Gelsomino Exclusive House (Santa Margherita Ligure, Liguria) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The picturesque Italian Riviera town of Santa Margherita Ligure has grand seaside hotels, but sometimes some smaller-scale hospitality is what’s called for. Villa Gelsomino is only moments removed from the beach and the town center, on a hillside overlooking the harbor. But that small measure of seclusion makes all the difference." - Tablet Hotels

Beauitful hotel with the best views! We stayed here for one night and loved how large and luxurious the rooms felt. The huge bath tub in our room was an amazing touch that we thoroughly enjoyed! The view was stunning from both balconies. We had to check out very early before breakfast service and they supplied us a breakfast bag with lots of fruits and snacks for us to take with us! The route our GPS took us was a very tight drive up to the gate so just something to keep in mind if you’re driving but we had no issue.

There are far nicer places to stay in Santa Margarita if you’re looking for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. Location: The property is directly above a railway line, something not shown in the photos. Experience: Unfortunately, the overall atmosphere felt more like a prison than a holiday accommodation. Our biggest disappointment was with the reception staff. The blonde receptionist, in particular, was consistently unhelpful and unwelcoming. As a group of 10, we all agreed that her attitude was cold and unaccommodating, which made the stay unnecessarily unpleasant. Even simple requests for basics like toilet paper or cutlery felt like an inconvenience to her. It’s surprising to see such inflated ratings on Google compared to other platforms. Based on our experience, the positive comments about the staff do not reflect reality.

We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Gelsomino and thought it was wonderful value for money. We stayed in the Monterosso double room downstairs and it was exceptionally clean, and super modern despite retaining the original charm of the room. The view breakfast was great with an unbeatable view of the town. We really enjoyed the fresh local ingredients including some healthier options like yogurt, fruit and homegrown vegetables after many weeks of travelling. The staff were friendly and helpful, and always contactable for help or recommendations. It was my birthday and they even served my breakfast with a candle which was very thoughtful- special mention to the lovely lady who checked us in and gave us a great restaurant recommendation. The accommodation is very close to Santa Margherita station, with a steep but staircase down- although we would recommend returning uphill via the slightly longer bridge which is easy to walk. This only takes 5 or so minutes. We found it very convenient for visiting town and also taking day trips. Despite the proximity to the station, the rooms are very well soundproofed and we could not hear anything at all from inside- very peaceful! We really appreciated the staff helping to bring our bags to and from SML station in the summer heat, and thought this was a very nice touch.

We stayed here for 4 nights in June 2025 and loved it! We were in the San Fruttoso room on the ground floor. The room was stunning. The bedroom and bathroom were both spacious and beautiful. The bed was a delight. And most important, given the extreme heat, the A/C was superb. We were so comfortable every night of our stay. We also loved the breakfast. You got to pick your meal the night before, and the time you wanted it served. We loved that. The villa itself was also beautiful. Truly stunning views from on top of the town. (The downside of being on a hill, of course, is having to walk up it at the end of each night. But we can’t complain. After all the food and wine we consumed in Santa Margherita, a climb back home was only proper.) We recommend staying there if you have the chance. Grazie Mille villa gelsomino!

I stayed at the beautiful Portofino suite with a breathtaking view of the small town of Sainta Margarita. Suite is historical, very nicely equipped and decorated and the view out of the small balcony is something out of this world!|Portofino itself is 15 minutes by car, the road to Portofino is another story, unfortunately my health condition is not very helpful but if you can walk i definitely recommend you do it.|Thank you Maya and Barbara for the outstanding service provided during my stay, if you’re ever blessed to visit that part of the world, Villa gelsomino is definitely where you want to stay.

The hotel was quite beautiful. Watching the view from here in the morning and evening gives you an incredible feeling. The small pools are only available during the summer, and the staff was attentive. An alternative solution for heating the rooms besides air conditioning could be considered. I just couldn’t understand why they charged an extra fee for the parking; it seemed unreasonable to me. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.

We enjoyed our stay in Villa Gelsomino very much. Barbara and Maya were excellent hosts. The villa has been restored and decorated with exceptional taste, and the grounds are lovely. We enjoyed our made-to-order breakfasts, especially Maya's wonderful cakes and breads. The parking couldn't have been better, and it was just a short walk into town.
