Yelp
Perched on a hill adjacent to Fourviére with a commanding view of the three regions of Lyon defined by the two rivers, Villa Maïa isn't just an excellent hotel; it's an outstanding experience. With about 50 rooms, this sleek and modern hotel creates warmth and charm through a friendly and attentive multilingual staff and well executed interior design. Particularly, the hotel's concierge services headed by François and Fabrice reliably provided wise and candid advice concerning museums, tours, culture, and restaurants including obtaining reservations that had limited Internet presence or reservation options. For those who remember Ritz Carlton service before the Marriott acquisition, the Villa Maïa staff are "ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen." Our quiet room was beautifully appointed with robes, slippers, a luxurious bathroom with a towel warmer, easy-to-use technology, great views, and included nonalcoholic minibar items. The breakfast buffet, that we included in our room rate, was beyond continental options including a superb French green lentil salad, meat terrines, charcuterie, tomatoes with exceptional fresh mozzarella, and wonderful eggs, crêpes, or waffles to order, graciously served in a dining room with a restful view of the hotel's large garden. The clientele appeared to be experienced adult travelers from the rest of Europe and France, and America. Within three minutes of the hotel, we were walking the Roman amphitheaters or the narrow twisting streets of 14th to 16th century vieux Lyon. We will return.
One word of caution as of this writing: should you use Uber and enter the name of the hotel in the Uber app, the driver may unwittingly drive to a wrong address kilometers away. Enter instead the hotel's address or the name of an immediately adjacent independent restaurant, Têtedoie. Google maps generated the same error for us.
