We stayed here during a short trip to Heidelberg. I’m trying to be fair in my review despite the specific circumstances. The hotel is clearly well maintained, and our room (33) was very charming. If we had just been sightseeing and using it as a base to explore the city, it would have been perfectly fine — cozy, clean, and reasonably priced.||However, during our stay, the temperature in Heidelberg hit 37°C (nearly 100°F), and we also needed to do some remote work. Even with the blinds closed, the room became uncomfortably hot. It was also very dark, making it feel more like a cave than a place to relax or work. You could feel the temperature rising as you climbed the stairs — upper-floor rooms were noticeably warmer.||Of course, the extreme heat is outside the hotel’s control. What was harder to accept was the complete lack of support after 3:30pm, when the reception closes. There was no way to reach anyone, and our emails went unanswered. We were open to switching rooms — perhaps to a lower floor — but without any response, we had no options.||Ultimately, we chose to leave and look for a hotel with air conditioning. Since our stay was non-refundable, we’ll likely have to absorb the cost — but not being able to sleep in that heat just wasn’t worth it.||A lot of things here are done very well, and under normal conditions, this could be a great value. But if you’re traveling in summer or need flexibility during your stay, it’s worth keeping the limitations in mind.
