The 13 Best Hotels in Amsterdam Offer a Chance at Canalside Living | Vogue

"An intimate two-suite B&B in bohemian De Pijp, this “fabulous friend’s apartment” fantasy is run by former fashion model booker turned hotelier Werner Nijenhuis—and has doubled as a fashion-shoot set for the likes of Gigi Hadid. Jewel-box interiors nod to the Netherlands’ trading past with botanical wallpaper, taxidermied butterflies and flamingos, velvet settees, hand-painted vases, and wicker Peacock chairs. Mornings bring lovingly prepared breakfasts in the powder blue–and-white communal kitchen, with made-to-order dishes alongside excellent breads and pastries; book the Garden Suite for French doors that open onto a private inner oasis." - Siobhan Reid

Villa Nicola is a special place. Werner is the most hospitable host , thoughtful and welcoming. He puts great effort into giving his guests a superb experience. We arrived in the morning before our room was ready. He made us cappuccino and allowed us to freshen up in the ante-room. We stayed in the garden suite. The bed and especially the pillows, were very comfortable. The entire place is very clean and nicely appointed. He gave us good tips on restaurants and how to navigate the city. The location is perfect--walkable to many great restaurants and top tourist attractions, and only 5 min walk to the metro and tram station. Breakfast includes a large spread of delicious and healthy foods and eggs made to order. We felt pampered.

You could stay in a sterile hotel. Or you could stay in Werner's elegant townhouse in a large suite, have fresh flowers every day and a great breakfast. There are 2 suites, the Urban Suite on the first floor with a large bed area, a nook overlooking the garden with a couch and chair, perfect for writing in your travel journal, and a modern bathroom. Or downstairs is the Garden Suite with the bed in a nook and a larger sitting area with access to the garden. A 5 minute walk to the Museum Square, 15 to the center of Amsterdam, right around the corner from the subway. We have stayed in enough hotels and look for something more personable and unique. This delivers that and then some.

After a fruitless search of 2 hours for “luxury hotels in Amsterdam,” I finally came across this gem of a hotel. The location can’t be beat. The taste level is high for those of you who are particular. But the true luxury is the analog, personal experience. I didn’t realize when I booked that we not only got to enjoy the stunning urban suite with its separate sitting/lounging area and massive bathroom, but also the beautiful living room and kitchen of the townhouse - the latter of which was the sweetest spot in Amsterdam for me. It was full of fun treasures and with the generous spread of the Dutch breakfast…Perfection! I could go on and on with more details, but I won’t spoil all the little details of surprise for you. Those are for you to discover!

My wife and I had an excellent stay at Villa Nicola. The place is charming and a great value. Unlike hotel chains staying here really emphasized the "guest" experience. Werner was an excellent host and provides quite the breakfast spread. There's no doubt you'll enjoy your stay here! Say hi to Kees 🐕for me!

Werner has a beautiful town house, very well decorated, and fresh flowers everywhere. He was super welcoming and took good care of us during our stay especially for breakfast freshly done every morning. The room was clean, big and nicely decorated as well. Highly recommended if you're looking for something different than a simple hôtel.

I met the owner and will tell you that with management like that, you will never go wrong. I love the area and always visit the dog park and happen to meet his acquaintance at a local pet store named exotica. The area is awesome and quite manageable. Although in Amsterdam proper, you feel a little bit disconnected from the hustle and bustle of a big city. A lot of nature and open markets nearby.

The most beautiful place to stay on Amsterdam - because of the place and the host. Werner has created something quite magical in the grand canal house. Our suite was extremely luxurious and comfortable. Combine that with Werner wonderful personality and desire to share with you his passion of Amsterdam this is a glorious place to stay. Breakfast was equally wonderful and generous. Love it and will be back.

If you are going to Amsterdam, this is the place to stay. The rooms are very large and well appointed. Villa Nicola is located in the center of everything. Werner is the perfect host. Everything, including the bountiful breakfast is perfect.
