My Favorite Rental: A Six-Bedroom Villa Just Outside of Sorrento | Condé Nast Traveler

"Perched almost on top of a hill with an all-encompassing view from the village of Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi to the nearby mountains and the Gulf of Naples, this six-bedroom villa felt like a movie setting and became our perfect home base. Each of the six rooms had its own en suite bathroom, large windows, blackout shades, comfortable mattresses and linens, and plenty of storage, while one bedroom was technically an unattached studio a few feet from the main house—ideal for couples or small families seeking extra privacy. The interior’s abundant white marble reads more understated and minimalist in person than sterile, providing a backdrop that highlights the remarkable terrace and private pool; we spent most mornings and evenings around the large 12-seat table under the terrace awning or on lounge chairs by the pool, and made good use of the green and marble kitchen to cook meals. Modern bathrooms and strong AC were much appreciated, and the rental—listed through Oliver's Travels (shown at $1,439)—is managed by a nearby hotel that proved helpful during a storm by coming over with updates, complimentary umbrellas, and arranging a taxi when power and Wi‑Fi went out; they had also pre-stocked some requested kitchen ingredients, though not everything could be sourced. The nearby village is about a 15-minute walk downhill and offered gelato, a Michelin-recognized restaurant, a grocery store and a few shops, but note that public buses can be erratic, so plan extra time, rent a car if you’re comfortable with cliff roads, or simply stay on site to enjoy the views. One drawback was a sudden ant infestation in one bathroom on our last day, which likely would have been handled by staff if we’d requested it earlier, but overall the villa’s spacious, comfortable accommodations and its extraordinary outdoor space made it a welcoming return after long days exploring Pompeii, Positano, or Amalfi." - Jamie Spain

Last Monday, I had the pleasure of working at this incredible Villa. It wasn’t my first time in this beautiful Positano, but it was my first time at the villa, and it did not disappoint. The entire day was made even better by the amazing staff and the owner, Alice, who went above and beyond to make everything perfect. The terrace where the couple held their ceremony was absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views that made the moment even more special. The dinner area was just as beautiful, and the food was nothing short of impeccable. Can’t wait to be back at this dream location!

We recently had our wedding and 4 night stay with our families at Villa Oliviero. We loved every minute of our experience and only regret not booking the full week stay. We received the highest level of professionalism and service during our visit. Alice was incredibly helpful with everything planning and logistics-related prior to and during the stay, and she never seemed to get frustrated or tired with our back and forth emailing and zoom calls. On arrival, we had immediate assistance from several staff members to help with luggage, give us a tour of the facilities, etc. We had multiple events (cooking class, brunch, welcome event for 80, wedding for 80) which all went seamlessly thanks to the amazing staff who truly seemed to enjoy the events. We were also blown away by the food at all events, and had several guests say the pasta at the wedding dinner was the best they had throughout their entire trip throughout different parts of Italy! We would like to also shout out Genarro, who was the go-to person for our week for any requests, big or small. He was always there to help with a smile, even when what we were asking for may have been unreasonable. His presence was very calming. We already look forward to returning to the villa which I am sure we will do in the upcoming years. Thank you for a truly magical week!

My husband and I got married at Villa Oliviero in October, and we stayed there with our family for the duration of our wedding events. From the moment we arrived, our experience was incredible. Alice, Nello, Gennaro, and the entire VO team made us feel at home and like we were part of the family. We had older family members staying onsite, and they took special care to ensure they had what they needed and were comfortable. The newly installed elevator (which runs from the main road up to the level where the villa is) made access so much easier for all of our guests. During dinner, a massive storm hit the area, forcing us to move our dancing and dessert from out on the lower patio to upstairs where we were eating. The team acted so quickly to ensure there were plastic drapes covering the entire upstairs area and even had people holding multiple umbrellas in a small area where water was getting in to ensure our guests stayed as dry as possible. They worked with our planners to convert the inside of the villa to a dessert/champagne reception area and then disassembled our dinner table, including chandeliers, so we could begin our dancing on schedule. The villa is beautiful and has some of the most stunning views I've ever seen. At the end of our wedding events, I wanted to move in. Our wedding would not have been the magical experience it was had we had it somewhere else. Thank you to everyone at the villa for welcoming us with open arms and making our time there unforgettable.

Wow.... where do I even begin? I got married at Villa Oliviero this October and planned the wedding with Alice for over a year from the U.S. without ever seeing the venue in person. Once we arrived to Positano, met Alice in person and saw the villa, we were immediately at peace with our decision to have an international wedding, especially in Positano. Alice is absolutely amazing, and the villa has the best views in all of Positano, hands down. The steps up to the villa are completely worth it, and we truly had the best wedding experience of our lives there. The rooms are all beautiful, and the staff was extremely attentive and accommodating to our every need. Alice also knows exactly which wedding vendors to hire for your wedding day, and they are all absolutely amazing. I will never be over our florals, cake, the food or any detail. Having our wedding at Villa Oliviero was a dream come true, and I could not recommend this magical place more for a wedding venue in Positano!

We stayed for a week in this beautiful picture perfect villa for my sons wedding. It was an absolute pleasure to experience the service and the passion for this place with the staff and our respective families. An Italian experience never to be forgotten.

Villa Oliviero is the most magical place. My wife and I just had our wedding there after almost two years of planning with Alice and booking with Nello. We are so grateful for their kindness, accommodation, and making our dream come true. Love to Gennaro and the amazing team in the villa as well. I hope to return one day with my family and could not recommend this incredible place or the team more!

Villa Oliviero is unlike any other villa on the Amalfi coast. We stayed here with our closest friends and family for our wedding that took place here as well. It was the best week of all of our lives! Not just because the views are incredible and the villa is stunning but the staff makes you feel like family. Gennaro went above and beyond to accommodate our every need. Everyone at the villa is warm, generous and kind. My wedding was beyond my wildest dreams, The food, service, bar, wedding planner and all her recommendations (Alice) was OUTSTANDING! I cried when it came time to leave because I felt like family. Thank you Villa Oliviero for the indelible memories. We can not wait to come back!

Yelp
I think most of the 11 people staying here for the week were pretty happy with the place; however I'll give my own detailed appraisal. There is plenty of space in the villa, many different living areas so even 11 people are not living on top of each other. Each of the guests rooms are large with their own bathrooms, there aren't any bad rooms. Some are pretty amazing, with the shower built into the rock face, and some bedrooms are also built into the rock face too. The walk to get here from the town centre is a killer, even for young fit people. So I recommend that you stay in the villa as much as you can, or bring some good walking shoes! There is a bus / taxi option but neither can get you right down into the town centre (the beach), or right up to the villa. So even if you cut out the middle part of the walk, you're still in for some serious stairs! Having said that, once you get here, it's pretty amazing! Elderly people don't even bother unless you're not going to leave for your entire stay. The family who owns the villa are super accommodating, and have a 'no problem is too big' attitude. There are 3 staff members who work here full time. One of the staff members can understand most English, the other 2 can't. I didn't find the staff particularly friendly (family owners aside). Not a lot of smiles. Not bad service, not great either, just mediocre. I wasn't happy when I saw the house keeper throw her hands in the air when she saw I had slept on the couch....because I woke up with an ant infested bed! I was meant to wake them up at 3am to deal with it then (and wake my room mate). Which brings me to my next point, they need a buzzer or call button to call staff when needed. At the moment they say to yell out, but most of us couldn't remember or pronounce their names. A continental breakfast is provided, it could be significantly improved with little additional expense - it's pretty sparse. They could put a toaster out with some bread to toast, add some more cereals and put the milk jug in a bowl of ice so it stays chilled. The breakfast table is also not cleared regularly, so often left messy. With 3 full time staff, it shouldn't be difficult to keep it tidy. Wifi works well, and there is good apple technology to play music through their speakers using your apple devise. They provide towels and make up the rooms nicely too. They also have a machine which produces still and sparkling water on tap, and a top quality ice making machine. There are fridges you can take drinks out of for a fee, they are not super expensive, but if you want to save some dollars buy food and drinks from the local deli at the bottom of the driveway, and they will deliver it up to the villa for free (remember it's a decent hike from the bottom of the driveway). The housekeeper can cook meals for guests. Restaurant prices, but admittedly, this lady CAN cook! It's pretty nice being served a 3 course meal on the balcony overlooking the Mediterranean sea. It's a must do on your stay. We held a wedding reception here, and it ran very very smoothly. There were 60 guests and there was plenty of room. they did an excellent job. Though the waiters could have kept the drinks on the tables stocked a little better (now I'm getting picky...). There was a sewerage smell that would occasionally waft over the dance floor by the pool, hopefully this will be fixed soon. It was pretty faint and didn't ruin the night. It was the most impressive setting for a reception I have ever seen though. Seriously amazing view from the villa. The housekeeper will do your laundry which I thought was cool, but there will be a charge on your bill at the end. I thought this would have been a nice free value add for guests. The group decided to tip, if I were to make a decision on my own I wouldn't have. I think the $14,000 per week price tag should cover the service we received. This place is really impressive, we had a wonderful time, and I'm sure that future guests will also have a wonderful time. Having said that unless I'm with a group and we all want to live together, I will probably stay somewhere closer to town next time.
