I have been waiting months to visit this Spot 🔴. I was able to leave a nice tip and my order was still right around $20. I did a Google review on this place in the past. There is seating in front and in the rear of the building. Plenty table and chairs where you could easily pull up a wheelchair for fine dining. They also work with Uber Eats, Doordash for delivery to your home. The special I had today was a meatball hoagie with french fries 🍟. I have a favorite spot where I sit look out onto the street and watch people walking by while I eat it's my favorite spot 🪑 in my Favorite Spot 🔴. I'm going to share some pictures here and I will add later right down the road as Mellon Park. It is my second favorite spot in the burg. I am a Pigeon Lover. Today I already visited PRT and loaded up my half fare card. Since I've been around for so long I will also stop at the Carnegie Library on Smithfield 📚.

Ordered Gnocchi and get additional salad and bread. So nice! The staff were very considerate and packed the salad in a separate bag so it won’t get warmed by other food. The staffs are friendly and the overall vibe in the restaurant is very welcoming. Will recommend and go again.

The baked Italian hoagie was delicious! The wedding soup was also some of the best Ive ever had. Will definitely be back again.

It was the day after Thanksgiving and we were walk ing downtown and found this place. We ordered 1 large pizza and drinks . The service and food was great. Atmosphere was family friendly.

Best pizza I’ve had in a long time. The crust was perfect, the sauce tasted fresh, and every bite was amazing. The hostess was seriously the sweetest!! Super friendly and helpful, and she honestly made the whole experience feel perfect. Definitely coming back. 🍕✨

this place is a hidden gem in downtown! the service is amazing, food is great, drink selection is always on point (great happy hour specials). i hope people don’t figure out how great this place is and make it too crowded but they definitely deserve it.

W-O-W 💯 Delicious 🍕😋 I absolutely needed a break after my Crazy Day 🙄. I am downtown frequently, and I used to work on Penn Ave years ago. I have never eaten here until TODAY ✅ Quaint yet VERY spacious. What a wonderful relaxing atmosphere. I'm sure they get pretty busy at this location. However when I arrived in between lunch and dinner, it was exactly what I was looking for 😁😁😁. I took a little table up front where I was able to look out at the cars driving by and just eat My ✋🏼 Pizza 🍕 and drink My ✋🏼 Pepsi in #Peace 🕊️. My #1 pizza spot in Pittsburgh. Have been going here for years and they have the best large pepperoni pizza. It comes out piping hot so you have to use a fork and knife to eat it for the first 5 minutes (this is part of the experience). Then it cools to the point of handling and then it's all gone too soon. The wedding soup is also a delicious treat.

Best pizza I've had in a very long time!!! This was the pizza place my hubby went to 40 yrs ago while at school in Pittsburgh... we went for the nostalgic memories and it hasn't changed! It was as good as he remembered! There are lots of pizza places in Pittsburgh but you have to try this... same recipes from decades ago... did not disappoint!!

Staff was friendly and accommodating. Made an entire pie for us to order one slice and it was worth the wait. Bar in the back is a little slice of low key heaven! Heavy poor reasonable prices with great food!

This is one of my favorite places in Pittsburgh - they do all the usual Italian-American but are a cut above the rest in terms of quality, quantity, and service (management). Also, supposedly they did a heavy renovation and menu-modernization recently. I recommend their fish hoagie and Italian Beef au jus, but the pizza is supposed to be great, also.

I've had two really excellent experiences here so far! My first order was for takeout soup; the wedding soup was fantastic - hearty and flavorful, and the bowl was a large size. I loved that they wrapped the container in foil so it stayed warm! Today I visited for a second time and ate in. Service was quick, there were plenty of seats available at noon on a Wednesday, and the food was just as good as my first visit. I had the soup again, along with a large slice of mushroom pizza. The pizza sauce specifically was exceptional! I love that this quick, affordable lunch spot is close to work and I'll definitely be back.

Visited for the first time this week to get a sneak peak of the new bar and it was great - love the classic vibes with the glasses hanging from the ceiling racks. Very friendly and old school cool. Marianne brought us some amazingly crispy raviolis for a starter before our meatball hoagie arrived. We split the hoagie and barely managed to finish it so bring your appetite. We were hungry and left stuffed. The bar revamp is great, five taps with a fully-stocked mixers and solid pours. A great happy hour option. Alex mixed us a white russian and we took advantage of their wide selection of bottles as well. We grabbed a large cheese pizza to-go for the kids and it was ready by the time we wrapped up to go. Highly recommended!

Johnny's latest creation, "The French Dip", might just be his best sandwich yet! The attention to detail that this staff puts into each dish that comes out of the kitchen, is incredible... This place is a hidden gem for lunch when downtown... Quality local ingredients always used, large portions so you don't leave hungry and a service staff, that we'll just say, has seen it all and rock at their job! Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

My second time here. I stopped in for a slice while waiting in the real ID line a few doors down. The pizza was cooked to perfection, tasty cheese and red sauce and the crust was excellent. Usually I get some ranch with my pizza but no need to from Villa Reale. Definitely adding this as my go to place in downtown. The service was up to par with high end restaurants and the bar in the back looked very cozy. The place was almost full of people and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves while dining here.

Came in for lunch and was not disappointed. Delicious, hot and fresh pizza by the slice. Friendly service. They have an extensive menu. Highly recommend.

Went there yesterday for lunch. They were really busy, but the place was clean, and our service was great! I started with the wedding soup. It was one of the best I've ever had. It reminded me of Costanzo's back in the day, and my turkey, bacon, & cheddar hoagie was fantastic! I can't wait to go back. 5 Stars!

Stopped by for some Italian wedding soup for lunch on a cold day. Soup was very tasty and a nice bowlful for the price. Eager to return for pizza soon.

Walking around the city with my kids and stopped in for lunch. Practically had the whole place to ourselves. Got a pizza and it was delicious. Service was pleasant and the conversation with guy behind the bar was great. I would recommend this spot to anyone in the downtown area. Just a short walk from market square. Better food and a better Price.

I used to go here for lunch often when I worked at this end of town. Don't make it there much anymore but, having a rough day and craving comfort food, immediately thought of their wonderful white pizza. Stopped in and, suddenly undecided between that and a hoagie, decided to order half of a cheese hoagie and a slice of the white pizza to eat at the counter. Even a half hoagie is extremely generous and I took half of that home; the pizza slice I received this time was a little less generous than usual but was delicious and had an added seasoning that I think is a newer addition. Much of the staff has been here for as many years as I've been coming, which goes back to the late 90s. It gets packed at lunchtime, despite having a very large back room as well as the front room and counter, so you might want to try to come early to beat the crowd.

Pretty quiet night except for a group of women screaming in the back. Waitress was very nice. Just grabbing a quick meal before a show. They made zucchini parmigiana for us - came with a nice tossed salad. Used to go there all the time when I worked downtown. Hasn't changed. Still delicious.

I was really impressed with this place! I found out about it through the Ritual app and I ordered 2 slices. I am PICKY when it comes to pizza having come from the eastern side of the state where we're spoiled with NY style. So when I say this pizza is good, it says something. The slices were HUGE and everything was perfect. The sauce was delicious and they weren't shy about the amount they put on. The cheese was also the perfect amount. Too much cheese on a pizza (I might be alone with this statement) is overwhelming. Their fries were iffy. Tasted like they haven't changed the oil in a while or something. However, I don't expect top notch fries from a pizza place. I'll def be back!

the best pizza and hoagies in Pgh by far. can get pizza by the slice or whole pie. tasty baked homemade tossed crust. perfect sauce. lots of melted mozzarella. lots of seating. convenient for lunch or early supper. right next to weiner world, toy store, carl hermann furs and yuriy's jewelers. coziest small high-end block in downtown. lots of seating. beer wine etc too! new ownership so the "semi" reviews about service in the past have been corrected.

pizza was great was a 8.5 out of 10 slices were large and crust was fluffy. outstanding service staff was great and welcoming new ownership very nice and kind gentleman as well as my first time trying the food, i was impressed to say the least i will return soon !!

Outstanding service and great flavors in the pizza sauce. The crust was very thick and fluffy while the pizza was saucy and delivered flavors from Italy. The staff were very welcoming. I enjoyed my entire experience in the restaurant. I will rate the food a 8.5 which is very good for the downtown area who has a bunch of other competitors. I have to give a huge thanks to the owner Yuri for ordering my company food as a courtesy. He has a great heart and has a great image set for his team and company. we appreciate you and thanks again we will be returning customers with you guys :)

Swung by for a quick lunch. I think this was only my second or third time here. Got an Italian hoagie that was ok. Just what you'd expect to get from any pizza/hoagie style shop. I doubt I'll go back anytime soon only because there are so many other options downtown for this sort of fare. Also for what I got I found it to be a bit expensive.

My co-worker and I went to get lunch here, and I got fried foods, but she got a salad. Her salad was old & the lettuce was discolored. When receiving the bill at the table, we said something about how the salad looked bad. The waitress said 'Ok, I'll let them know,' and that was it. No offer for a new one. No offer to remove/discount it. NOTHING. When going to pay at the counter, we once again said something - and she completely overlooked it. Many other places around here to eat - ones that have the basics of Hospitality down.

This place has great pizza and quick service. The wait staff isn't usually the best but the pizza makes up for it. We've taken a few out of towners an they've all been impressed with the pizza. We like their white pizza and pepperoni he best.

Still hating this place. Due to Villa Reale's proximity to my work locale I find myself dining here more often then I would like to admit. The latest disaster lunch was an Italian sausage. The sausage was flavorless and dry to the point of being mummified. I have little else to add about how worthless this location is and I do wish that it would cease to exist.

The food is good, especially the pizza slices. Too bad, cuz they only serve you if you sit in a certain area, which fills up at lunch time. So if you go there from 11:30-2:00 for slices and the 6-8 seats at the bar are taken and you sit at a table, they won't serve you slices. It's completely ridiculous. They're always packed at lunch so don't expect to get slices unless it's to go or you show up at 11.

Jekyll and Hyde Lunch and the counter in front: the product is good but the service and people skills are horrible. A bit pricy too. All unacceptable for an area with so much competition for your lunch dollar Drinks and the bar in the back: while it's lacking in craft beers, the service and very friendly atmosphere makes up for it. I'm enjoying a Small Adams now and just taking it all in. Hard to believe this is the same establishment that runs the lunch crew.

Best pizza downtown, arguably the entire city. Some menu items on the more expensive side but quality and quantity are king here.

If you would enjoy waiting 45 minutes for 1 slice of plain pizza at lunchtime then yeah this is your place.

Family owned and operated and you feel like a close cousin as soon as you sit down! The pizza is authentic and delicious with toppings covering every inch. Even the salads and sides are exactly what you want out of this mom and pop shop! The waitresses and bartenders are funny and hardworking as well as genuinely nice people. I have no idea what all these stuck up, overworked business class curmudgeons in Pittsburgh are expecting! But, being away from home for an extended time found me back at the table everyday! Love this place!

Good quality pizza with fantastic cheese. The atmosphere is home-ish. The service is fast and the food affordable. Pizza was definitely better than the spaghetti.

asked for no onions or olives... probs an entire medium onion and a whole jar of black olives... so disappointed.

This is my favorite happy hour spot. The drinks and food are cheap and there's nothing trendy about this place which is awesome. You can always grab a table with colleagues and they sell pizza by the slice and it's so good. It has that New York pizza taste. The two women that work the bar are also great. They are quick and I honestly don't know how they manage to keep the place moving when it's busy.

Well I read some of the previous reviews about having to wait in line. What that told me is this place must be good. It did not disappoint, my husband and I split an antipasto salad which was large and delicious. We both had a slice of pizza and it was delicious- very large slices and very delicious. We both would recommend this little spot! Service was excellent too.

After many years of going to,and enjoying the pizza there ,that will never happen again. I ordered a pizza tonight and it was horrible. I called it in ,half sausage half plain. Easy right? Nope, got home to find all sausage and it was very obvious that the pizza had been sitting around for a while. Cold and dry. It was a leftover , I was the last customer of the night.Like I said I have been going there for years and know the product. I called to voice my displeasure and the woman that answered could have not cared less. Well another one bites the dust.

Traveling, not local. Stopped in due to recommendation from local. Food is decent, service horrible. Dominick the manager was a complete pompous jerk when I tried to speak with him about my concerns. Will not be back.

Well as others have noted, the customer service is a bit dicey. I ordered a steak and cheese hoagie and it arrived in a burnt bun. The portion size was large however they uses some type of generic wafer thin steak. It tasted OK. Nothing to rave about and at 11 bucks for a flat Coke and the mediocre steak and cheese I really can't recommend the place. I may try the pizza but other reviews noted it was pricy. On a side note, the staff could spend less time talking hockey, politics, and general bull jive and look after the customers. No refills, no checks on the food, nothing. Had I not flagged the waitress with my card I would have waited to pay as well.

Well folks, it looks like the end of this bee-yoo-tee-full October weather we've been having is nigh! Tomorrow brings the cooler, more rainy weather we'd been so accustomed to before this autumnal respite. I had one last chance to dine al fresco today. So which type of fare would be best for outdoor dining? Hotdogs? Nah, I'd already done that. Hoagies? Hey, now we're talkin'! MMMM! To quote Adam Sandler, "Hoagies-n-grinders, hoagies-n-grinders" (but no navy beans, navy beans!). Villa Reale may be a typical downtown pizza shop, but they've got good hoagies here. I went for the 6" pepperoni topped lettuce, tomato, onions & cheese and a brewed ice tea. It was the perfect way to end a season of outdoor lunches.

It's a time warp walking in, and generally not my fave slice the burgh, but if you're having a major cheese craving, Villa is your jam. The plain slices are 2.68, but they are so huge and just covered in cheese, you, for sure, only need one for lunch, and the sauce is pretty unoffensive and the crust is almost perfect. I've yet to try anything but the pizza, but from what I've seen, it looks like the kind of place where you'd split a dish because the plates are heaping. Also, they are one of the few places around serving soft serve and who doesn't love soft serve? Where has all the soft serve gone?

This is a great little stop on Smithfield Street. Frankie the bartender is a major plus and the food across the board is a plus. They offer a wide range of pasta dishes, hoagies, and pizza. I have to recommend the pizza. Though i have tried about a dozen dishes and no complaint. I usually get a slice of pizza and today I added in a side of meatballs. I do want to add you won't be paying a fortune at this place. The service can get bogged down at lunch but the staff will get you in and out. Try it out and go hungry! I bet you won't spend $10. Bring a few friends and split a pie. ;)

I didn't discover the Villa until a year and a half after working in the city! it is kind of tucked away, but the place is always busy. I have only been there for lunch, and have never disliked anything I got. They have the pizza you can buy by the slice and pick your toppings along with their many other specials. The one bartender there is super nice and wears the cutest hats.... I think their homemade sauce is really good too. The restaurant could use some major updating and remodeling. otherwise it is a good lunch stop!

The guys over at Slice (http://slice.seriouseats.com/) have a theory called "The Pizza Cognition Theory" This theory states that one's pizza preferences are derived from their first truly memorable pizza experience. While our tastes may vary as we age, ultimately we are on a quest to recapture that first great pizza taste. Villa Reale is the place of my first great pizza memory (groan if you may but it's true). Growing up in Latrobe I had become accustomed to mediocre, chain pizza. Not until I was about 12 did I get my first taste of super thin, floppy, extra cheesy, greasier than normal pizza. This was the stuff I dreamed of. My dad took me here prior to my first ever Pens game. The Villa holds a soft spot in his heart as well due to the many many post work nights he spent here slugging beers and eating pizza with friends. Fast forward 13 years and now I am the one working downtown, slugging beers and eating post work pizza. Unfortunately though, Villa Reale has become so expensive that treating it as a weekly stop is a bit unreasonable. While the pizza is still super thin, floppy, extra cheesy, greasier than normal, I have trouble paying $15 for a slice of pepperoni, a coke, and a side salad. On another occasion my dad requested to come here as his payment for helping me move. A medium calzone, a slice of pepperoni, and two cokes ran me $35. Villa Reale, please come to your senses and adjust your prices. While you played a significant role in my childhood, you are pricing yourself out of my adulthood.

This little pizza dive defines three stars. Pizza, hoagies, pop, some beer. Nothing to write home about but it gets the job done if you're hungry. Stopped here after pirate fest at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center for a quick bite and it did its job. Downside: The credit card machine was down so it was cash only and they just mopped the floor so it smelled like bleach.

The Villa Reale is a diamond in the rough! Great service and delicious food. Ask Pete, outstanding cook btw, to make you the Chicken Parmigiana or a calzone, or a steak hogtie, all are very good and can feed you well with leftovers to boot. This place is outstanding and a great value!! Again, Pete the chef most weekdays/nights is fantastic!!

I really believe that Villa is a hidden gem in downtown Pittsburgh. Without a doubt, some of the best pizza I've had in the area. Consistently good food, and great service. The sandwiches are enormous and always very good. I love Villa, very decently priced, and a great place to stop for lunch.

So I started a new job downtown (I moved from NYC during the summer), and some coworkers took me here just last week for lunch. Since the move from NY, I'd been really craving some quality, New York-style pizza, and hadn't had a ton of luck finding any (although the search introduced me to some excellent "Pittsburgh-style" pizza joints, so I'm not complaining.) Villa Reale really came through. I loved that you could order a slice with basically whatever toppings you wanted (I'm used to being at the mercy of whatever "slice" pie has been languishing under a heat lamp for 3 hours). I ordered a pepperoni and sausage slice, and the small feast that was presented to me did not disappoint. The slice was huge, the pepperoni crispy, the sauce really balanced (not too sweet, not too garlicy), the cheese fresh and delicious and the crust...oh man...thin and crisp on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside. One slice was perfect to fill me up for lunch, too. Full disclosure: while the wait staff is so friendly, they do get overwhelmingly busy at lunch. We went to the place at 11:00 so we could sit at a table (if you want to dine-in and order a slice during lunch, you can only sit at the counter, not a table, after 11:30) and by 11:30 the place was standing room only. My coworkers informed me that somehow, their pizzas are even better when ordered by the pie (hard for me to fathom) and also that their hoagies are delicious, so I'm sure I'll be trying one of those next time. It's not the most inexpensive pizza joint downtown (I think my slice ended up being $4-$4.50) but if you're a recovering Noo Yawker like me looking to fulfill some culinary nostalgia, this is your place.

This place by far makes the best pizza in downtown Pittsburgh I've had it all I've been working downtown for 20 years it's not even close. The people are friendly there are a lot of regulars it's also deceivingly large when or able to Actually go sit and eat a meal they've got plenty of room

great little place to eat. we came in from out of town and just took a chance on this place and we hit the jackpot. all of the food, pizza, sandwiches, garlic bread. tiramisu and zeppoles were great. but the best was our waitress, miss karen. what a hard worker and fantastic server. she made our visit to feel right at home. thanks miss karen.

Yummy pizza and excellent service! We walked here from our hotel late evening on a Friday. Wasn't too busy. Pizza a little pricey but fresh and authentic with great flavor and an amazing crust. Which in my opinion totally makes or breaks a pizza. The wedsing soup was yum-o! I waa fighting a super painful and nasty sore throat and the server made me a hot tottie witb her personal honey she brings in. That with the soup really did help sooth my throat. I didn't get pictures but I highly recommend this little piece of pizza heaven!

The canned mushrooms are gone! Hurray! Went back today for lunch for a pepperoni and mushroom Calzone. It was huge! The price was $12.25 which is a little high for lunch but it was very enjoyable. The dough is very thick. This is the best Calzone I have ever had. It is filled with lots of cheese and toppings.

We ordered from Villa Reale due to its proximity to our hotel (and the fact that it's open after 7pm--what's up with this city? Are they all at home watching football and hockey games? Not that I could blame them!) The pizza's alright. The crust is great, but when I tried to peel off the first piece, the cheese stayed in the box. :( Maybe it froze while we were running back to the hotel. We also got some fried mushrooms, which are excellent. They come with a tomato-based dipping sauce. Mmm. We found out later that this is one of the few places you can get beer (to take out) after 7pm. Good to know. Overall, it was fine, but not outstanding.
