Villa Rosa, Kandy, Sri Lanka - Explore & Book

"You’re on top of a mountain here, with lush views over forested hills and the Mahaweli river snaking through the valley below. Wander around the landscaped gardens and come across a viewing place, where you’ll stand rooted to the spot; there are chairs for those who wish to linger. And you're just a short ride from Kandy, the hill-country capital, with all its culture, sights, shopping and the inevitable tour groups.Villa Rosa has a slightly Moorish feel, with myriad tiled roofs cascading down on each other and big, fat tropical leaves climbing up to meet them. There is a sense of peace, with doorways that frame views and windows that gorge on mountain-top light. Inside, all is bright and airy with creamy walls, wooden floors, cushioned sofas and the odd roof open to the rafters. After a long day sightseeing, head out to the terrace for a sundowner or pop over to a nearby hotel and fall into the pool. Highs There are fantastic views (and spectacular sunsets), yet you're close to the centre of KandyThe feel is relaxed, friendly and private, in contrast to most other Kandy hotelsDelicious dinners on the terrace, watching lights twinkle across the valley as you eatThe hands-on owner, Volker, makes your stay special and his personal guided trips come highly recommendedFriendly and welcoming staff Lows There's no swimming pool, but you can swim at a nearby hotel free of charge (they'll even take you there in a trishaw)This place feels informal (more like a private house than a hotel) and this is reflected in the serviceRecent feedback has suggested that the rooms, while clean, are a little tired - though they are being refurbished one by one" - Laila Ram

We had a wonderful time at Villa Rosa. The staff were so attentive and welcoming. The chef kindly took us out to the market with him to collect produce for our evening meal. This was a fantastic experience to see the local market and eat the fresh food in the evening. The Sri Lankan meal he prepared was one of the best meals we ate during our trip! Thank you to the team and of course Carl and Carly (the friendly resident dogs!) for their entertainment.

Great spot in Kandy away from the Hustle and Bustle of Kandy city. Great views and very peaceful. Easily accessible by tuk tuk or car. We had 2 rooms over the course of a 3 nights stay due to a late check out and both rooms were excellent. First room was a little warm but would have been fine but the air-con was switched off during the room service which allowed it to warm up but nothing excessive. Great pool to cool off in and the food being breakfast and or dinner was first rate. Very helpful, friendly and attentive staff. I thought overall this was great value and would happily stay here again

We are so delighted to have found Villa Rosa. Quite hard to find so make sure you’re driver has good instructions…once you get there it’s an oasis of tranquillity.|We received a warm welcome, a tour of the public areas and then were shown to our amazing room (number 3). Dual aspect widows, huge wrap around balcony and a tasteful interior with a great bathroom. The pool area and veranda are heavenly, with a view over the trees and distant city, hard to believe that you’re only a 10 minute Tuk Tuk drive from the business of Kandy. The staff were all so polite and professional, the breakfast was super, fruit and eggs with toast…and great coffee. We ate there one night, a beautiful vegetarian curry with choice of dessert.|We don’t hesitate to recommend Villa Rosa.

A beautiful small hotel whose emphasis is on calm, tranquility and wellness. Kandy is a very busy town and coming back to the hotel sets you back to a relaxed being. Lovely food, home cooked, fresh and beautifully presented. The staff are exceptional and hard working. A lovely caring owner who is extremely informative. The views from the pool are breathtaking. Highly recommend.

Amazing views at Villa Rosa. Very welcoming and kind staff which were all very kind. Food was very nice with a good breakfast There were a lot of loud and noisy guests which I admit did ruin our personal experience - however that is no fault of the hotel's. Highly recommend!

Cute little hotel in colonial style with a great view on Sri Lanka main river, crossing Kandy, room was spacious with a big terrace, staff was very kind and the restaurant very good. Spending some time in the pool at sunset is a must

The location is beautiful with stunning views and serenity, much appreciated after busy downtown Kandy. The food was beautiful, both at breakfast and dinner. It turned out that the AC didn’t work in the room we were given, so the first night was hot and uncomfortable. The room we were moved to had an odd bathroom where the whole bathroom got wet when you had a shower. Also, the mosquito net around the bed did not have a top, which was quite bizarre. However, staff was lovely and everything else was great.

Villa Rosa is a peaceful spot with stunning river valley views - especially at sunset. The warm infinity pool is a great place to relax. If you’re booking a stay, I’d recommend getting a room in the main building, as the Standard Double rooms are in a separate annex. Breakfast and lunch are made to order, and you can ask for your preferred spice level. However, dinner is a set menu catered to a Western palate (pretty mild), and they won’t make it spicier on request. Food prices are listed in dollars and are quite high for Sri Lanka - and I say that as a tourist, who stayed at 6 different hotels during a two week vacation. The staff is friendly but could be more attentive. For example, I was served an uncapped bottle of beer by the pool, and service in the lower restaurant area was often slow. Overall, it’s a beautiful and relaxing place to stay, but service and dining options could be improved.
