We stayed at this well-situated boutique hotel for five days in July. We found it to be extremely comfortable, with a delightful staff, especially Alex, the manager. Our room was lovely, with a comfortable be and seating arrangement. Everyone was very helpful, everything worked perfectly, and it could not have been better. The location is excellent. We were surrounded by numerous restaurants and tourist sites, and taxis and subways were easily accessed. Kyoto is quite hot in July, and the staff was constantly offering us water and suggesting how we might stay comfortable. Alex made numerous useful suggestions about places to visit, and when we needed a taxi, it would be there in minutes. The hotel is a gem - stay there with confidence.

One of the best accommodations I have stayed. Hospitality was amazing. Staff is very very friendly. Very good value for money. Booked through Chase Sapphire reserve, and they had everything ready for us according to ask. Location is very convenient to metro and JR rail locations. Staff really guided us on best ways to get to tourist locations. Really lovely people We are vegetarian and staff arranged for vegan and veg breakfast all days and it was so well presented. So accommodative, always kept the rooms clean. The pajamas are a highlight.

We had an excellent stay and Alex was amazing. He made it very comfortable for us and provided us with all necessary information. His service was exceptional, 5* on his customer service. We stayed in other places but this place was made special with fantastic staff. I would come back and recommend to all my european friends that here, you will find the best hotel to stay at in Kyoto. The location is great and everything is walkable including the samurai museum. Highly recommend due to EU friendliness.

Me and my husband stayed here for our honeymoon. The rooms were big with a nice bath tub. Good enough for the both of us. We were able to walk to the food market, samurai museum. Shopping is nearby. Alex was an excellent staff member who made us feel welcome and helped us with whatever we required. What an awesome guy. Great place 👌

My husband and I just enjoyed a 24 day private tour put together by Firebird Tours. They did a fantastic job (I just wrote a review for Firebird), and especially by putting us in great hotels, including the Villa Sanjo Muromachi. In fact, the Villa Sanjo Muromachi was our favorite hotel of our entire month long stay in Japan. It is charming, so well located and with a staff that is priceless. Friendly, warm and wanting to help with anything, we so appreciated them and felt we were well taken care of each and every day of our stay. Special shout out to Alex who is a wonderful representative of the hotel! He did so much for us and we couldn’t have been happier!||Our room was not one with a view, but we never noticed. The hotel has very cleverly placed windows with interior lighting down to an atrium of sorts that acts like a window looking out onto the street. Very private, no noise. Great bathroom and great bed! ||Breakfast here - served either in your room or in the small lounge downstairs (where we had it every day) - was probably the best we had in Japan. There’s a French Bakery next door to the hotel, so you know the croissants served were THE BEST we had during our 2.5 months in Asia. Besides their wonderful croissants, the meal also included an egg omelet, some sort of meat like bacon, usually some sort of hash brown, fruit, yoghurt and cold cereal. Hot coffee or tea, OJ.||If I ever return to Kyoto, I will be staying at the Villa Sanjo Muromachi. No where else could possibly compare! :)

Our stay at Villa Sanjo Muromachi Kyoto was nothing short of delightful. The rooms are beautiful, exuding a calm and lovely ambiance that perfectly complements the serene atmosphere of the hotel. The location is ideal, making it easy to explore Kyoto’s treasures. Every staff member was exceptionally kind, friendly, and polite, creating a warm and welcoming environment.||A special shoutout goes to Alex, who truly made our stay unforgettable. His support was unparalleled—acting like a professional, personal travel guide. Alex went above and beyond, spending hours explaining points of interest, providing detailed directions, including which subways to take, where to switch trains, and even cost estimates. His dedication and enthusiasm were remarkable; I’d hire him in a heartbeat! Thank you, Alex, for making our stay truly wonderful. This hotel is a gem, and we highly recommend it! Pity we couldn’t stay longer.

This is a wonderful hotel. The central Kyoto location is ideal for getting all around the city. The hotel itself is beautiful. From the street it looks very simple, but once you walk in the door you will quickly see all the energy put into to making this place a small oasis in a busy city. It’s small and intimate with an amazing staff. A special thanks to Alex for all the additional help that went above and beyond, and to the amazing bartender that gave us an impromptu education on Japanese whiskey. They go out of their way to be helpful.  Rooms are big and the beds are very comfortable. As others have mentioned, the bakery next door is amazing. They don’t open till 9 am but are absolutely worth the wait each morning.

We really enjoyed the hotel’s comfort, location and friendly staff. Alex, the staff lead/ manager, made time to suggest places to visit during our five day stay. He and the other staff members were very helpful and really enhanced our experience. The hotel is within manageable walking distance of the castle, Nishiki Market and other attractions, and was an excellent base for exploring Kyoto. Highly recommend.
