Recently I spent 3 days in Locarno, canton of Ticino, Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. I stayed in the Villa Sempreverde, a B&B in Locarno-Monti, a hill overlooking the city and the beautiful Lake Maggiore surrounded by mountains. The villa is a mansion built in the late 19th century and beautifully restored. It is situated only 10 minutes away from the center/station of the city. A bus stop stands right in front of the B&B. A funicular - only 5 minutes away - is another way of going down to Locarno. A cable car will also drive you to the top of the hill if you wish so. I liked the room, all white, clear and clean. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom fully equipped. I loved breakfast : various local products and delicious cakes baked by Fiorenza, the friendly owner. What I enjoyed very much were the garden at the back of the villa and the breathtaking view over the Lake Maggiore. There are several restaurants and "grottos" (small typical Ticino restaurants) in the Villa Sempreverde's surroundings as well as a grocer's, a post office, a hairdresser's, a baker's and other small shops. If you are looking for a quiet and inviting place, close to Locarno and offering a great view over a superb landscape, the Villa Sempreverde may well be this place. Locarno offers many opportunities for nearby excursions, lake or mountains, sports, arts, music. A city I really enjoy visiting at any time.
