This very modern villa, situated on the Douro River, was a mixed bag. While the view from the house was phenomenal, this place was exceedingly difficult to find(we had to call the owner twice for help finding the house; we spent an hour trying to find the house after dark on another occasion). The address did not register on either of the two GPSs we had, not Google maps. The house is located down a precipitously steep set of very narrow roads that nearly gave us heart attacks. We rented an automatic car, in addition to the manual car we arrived in because driving a manual car wasn’t tenable. The house is extremely isolated. We felt like hostages in the house, going out only twice in a week to visit Porto (58-60 kilometers from this house!) to shop for groceries and to eat at a restaurant a half hour away. This is not the kind of place that you leave for dinner and drinks and return 3 hours later. Two of the five of us actually thought about leaving to get a place in the city of Porto. Another huge problem was the absence of instructions about using appliances, lights, TVs, grill, etc. On the plus side, we had access to some of the organic produce in the garden. I believe that the owner and booking agent should have more clearly disclosed the geographic and logistical challenges of this place. We should have done more research - we couldn’t believe how far this place was from the city of Porto. Sorry to be so wordy, but I wish I had been able to read a review like this. All five of us agreed that this wasn’t a good vacation choice
