"As the daughter of one of Croatia’s most legendary chefs, Ivana Gamulin felt inspired to follow in her late father’s footsteps and open a restaurant. The result is Villa Spiza, a countertop spot within the palace walls, where she and her sister serve up Dalmatian soul food made with fresh, local ingredients. The menu changes daily depending on what’s available at the market but always features regional specialties like seafood risotto, fried calamari, and just-caught fish. For its comforting fare and low-key vibe, the restaurant is beloved by everyone from bohemians and backpackers to tried-and-true locals—which is always a good sign when searching for somewhere to eat. Service is friendly, but come prepared to wait—Villa Spiza doesn’t do fast food."

My friend and I had a delicious dinner here. The food was so fresh, flavourful, and piping hot when it came out. Menu recommendations from the staff were perfect. Well priced food and wine. Great vibes with people singing along to the music, a cute baby getting passed around while parents ate, and the neighbour’s dog asleep on the floor. Authentic Croatian food with a completely welcoming local experience. Absolute gem and I’ll definitely go back.

We sat in by the bar on stools (there is a dining room across the street). It’s off season so we were alone. Husband had shrimp and pasta. I had sardines for lunch. Both delicious. Bread fresh and hearty. Service terrific. In bar area you watch the food being cooked. Great experience.

One of the best meals of our lives! We are going back two nights in a row. We got the anchovy pasta and grilled sea bass. The grilled sea bass was one of the best fresh fish I’ve ever had. The potato and Swiss chard sides were surprisingly good. Anchovy pasta was super savory and tasty. Simple flavors but done really well.

We came during peak hours and waited around 30 minutes for a table. The wait did not disappoint at all as the food was delicious. Ordered the slow cooked beef cheeks, tuna steak and veal chop. Beef cheeks were definitely the star of the show. We also got both desserts tiramisu and chocolate ganache but they weren't anything to write home to.

the coziest restaurant with great food. they were so nice and helpful. i got prawn and zucchini pasta, it was so good. but the star for me was the chocolate cake it was so so good. i always go in when there is a handwritten menu which i didn’t fail this time as well.

We were excited to try this place after seeing so many great reviews, and people were even lining up after we sat down—so it’s clearly popular. Sadly, it didn’t live up to the hype. Our waitress was quite rude and abrupt, which really took away from the experience. I had the prawn and zucchini pasta—flavour was great and the portion was generous, but it was just packet pasta, which was disappointing for the price. My partner doesn’t eat seafood, so he ordered the strip sirloin. It was cooked rare but was so tough it was almost impossible to eat. The man next to us had the same dish and was clearly struggling with it too. Maybe we just caught them on a bad night, but I wouldn’t line up for this restaurant.

Food was delicious. There's 2 spots here across the alley from each other. The bar area is my favorite but the cooking side has live music once in awhile. It's a little smaller. It's cash only though so hit an atm before hand. They write the menu out and cross out dishes when they run out so don't get your heart set on a dish. And if you have a large group, get there at or before 6
