I was in the beautiful city of Split in Croatia for a few days recently (early September, 2025) and it was a fantastic experience. That was due not only to the natural beauty of the place and the historical significance of the ruins there, but also because of the accommodation. I stayed at "Villa Varos", right in the heart of the historic centre and only minutes away from Emperor Diocletian's summer Palace and a host of cafes, restaurants and bars (as well as a laundromat, where the washing can be done on the same day for you, and grocery shops where all kinds of foods can be bought if one does not wish to go to a restaurant on a particular night). The room, though on the smallish side, was perfectly well appointed and spotlessly clean. Gregory, the owner, was immensely helpful and a splendid host. He helped me with my luggage both on arrival and on departure. He also made sure that my taxi ride back to the airport was very economical. Had I contacted him before my arrival, the taxi ride to "Villa Varos" would also not have been overly expensive.
I highly recommend "Villa Varos" to any prospective tourist to Split. As I said to Gregory, "I'll certainly be back and for a longer stay. This time, however, I'll book a bigger room".
