What a great little find while we were just going to a gas station. I stopped to take a couple of pictures. A few days later, we went for a fresh breakfast bagel and coffee and, without a doubt, would visit again. Service was great and friendly, and this little gem was exactly what you would expect from the pics and reviews.

So happy I stumbled on this wonderful Bakery! Outstanding desserts and a great dirty chai were out of this world! This will be on my beaten path this summer!

Reply to Village Hearth: great to know it’s not! Thanks for the explanation, but as you can see in the photo, some part of the croissant looks very dense, and it really is dry to taste. I’m a loyal customer whenever I come to Jamestown so I’m just trying to give my honest suggestion and hope you guys do better! Thanks So disappointed this time😢 My family lives on the island so we come here often when I visit them. And this time is a big disappointment village hearth changed. The croissant for example is so dry and stiff, not flaky at all. It doesn’t taste like butter, feels like they used some vegetable shorting?

This cafe is GORGEOUS and the food is so so good! I tried an iced coffee because of the RI Food Fights iced coffee celebration and also ordered a ham and asiago scone. I didn't realize the scone was gf so I was shocked because you couldn't even tell!! The gardens are so pretty and the inside was lovely as well. Definitely worth a visit!

Google
Cute coffee shop and bakery ! Coffee was delicious and the baked goods were yummy . Gluten free options as well . They also have breakfast and lunch sandwiches that looked amazing . At night this space turns in to a Mediterranean restaurant. Can't wait to come back and try that !

Google
A spontaneous stop for us. I am gluten free so I figured I wouldn’t get anything but my husband could. I was wrong! They had at least 4 baked goods for me to choose from. I got a ham and Asiago scone and raspberry muffin. Scone was delicious! Not that grainy texture usual in GF baked goods. Thank you for having options!!!!! So much appreciated ❤️. Service was excellent! She was super patient and personable:) Atmosphere was comfortable and I wish we could have sat for a while.

Google
I absolutely LOVE this bakery and cafe! We stopped in quite early on a cold Saturday morning, and were greeted by wonderfully friendly staff at the counter. We admittedly made a complicated order with a lot of different elements, and everything was perfect. My bagel, a smoked salmon, was positively delicious! We stayed to eat and have our coffees, playing checkers and chatting, and we watched a lot of regulars come and go and chat with the staff while we were at our table - it was such a nice atmosphere. I cannot say enough good things!

Google
Super cute place. Friendly staff. Got a Bloody Marybwith my breakfast sandwich. Loved the biscuit and Beyond Meat was nice and crispy.

Yelp
Great little cute cafe with a nice patio with couches or tables. The inside dining area is climate controlled and very roomy. We got here around 1:50pm and we were told the kitchen was closed but they had drinks, coffee and baked goods for sale. The store closes at 2pm. The oatmeal cookie was delish and the drink were all perfectly done. We love supporting local businesses and also members of the LGBTQ+ community. Great little place.

Yelp
You must absolutely try this place if you are in the area! Our order taker was helpful and courteous. The lineup of bakery items is completely drool worthy! So pretty! I even loved the gear shaped light fixtures. Quiet when we were there 5/1, but I'm sure it gets busier. I would be tempted to eat here every single day if I lived closer. I have no picture of the chocolate croissant that I purchased for later, but I'm Looking forward to enjoying my treat. The music was upbeat and the vibe was peaceful. Such a beautiful atmosphere.

Yelp
I'd like to come back to this place and order something different because while my first impression was good, I think (hope) my first impression of the food can be better. The best parts of this place are the service and seating. They have adequate seating between outside and inside, even when they're pretty busy. I ordered a parfait and 3 cheese grilled cheese. The parfait was good, but the grilled cheese was just ok. For being a $9 grilled cheese, I expected even more cheese on here or some kind of sauce (I thought it was supposed to have some tomato sauce on it, but I could be wrong on that). Like I said, I'd like to come back and try some different menu items, and hopefully I'll change this review from a 4 to a 5. It's conveniently located across the street from the Jamestown playground too!

Yelp
Stopped in to try the roast beef sandwich. It was pretty impressed with the quality of the roast beef. Unfortunately the role was very chewy and I couldn't actually bite through it. I ended up eating the inside bread and leaving the crust. Coffee was good. Service was good. I definitely would return if I was in the area and try something different

Yelp
This was the second time I've been to the Village Hearth since it got new owners in 2020. I think I need to start going more often! We had to park down the road a bit as there were lots of people already here on a Saturday morning. We only had to wait a few minutes to place our order and all the staff were friendly. We got a chai latte with oat milk (loved the cinnamon sprinkled on top), ham and Asiago scone (yum) and two breakfast sandwiches. The sausage in the sandwich was a homemade patty that was perfect in a sandwich. One sandwich was on a cheddar jalapeño bagel where the jalapeños were not spicy but added good flavor but the bagel was a little oily with the sandwich, maybe specifically ask for no butter. The biscuit was A plus! The business is woman owned and LBGTQ friendly (and a dog came in to say hello - not clear if dogs are allowed in or just friends of the employees). Great place to grab breakfast or a tasty baked treat when around Jamestown.

Yelp
I am a Narragansett local and always enjoy trying new spots for lunch. Came here on a win and absolutely loved it. I got the lemon poppy muffin which a worker recommended and then the bacon egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on a plane bagel. Everything was delicious! I will definitely be coming back.

Steve P.

Yelp
Het away from the tourists. Come to this place. The coffee, pastries and other fare at the Hearth are terrific, the efficient and friendly staff and the warm and casual ambiance make it an inviting place to meet up with friends -- or just by yourself.

Rebecca J.

Yelp
We ate at Salty Wine Bar inside of the bakery. It's tapas style and everything is fresh and unique. The staff couldn't be nicer and more accommodating I almost felt like I wasn't in RI. Highly recommend!!

Tim K.

Yelp
What a cool find in Jamestown Rhode Island. Heading out of the state park and looking for something light to eat stumbled across this terrific, boutique café/bakery. By suggestion of one of the employees I ordered the chicken salad sandwich. It was very good. Being a fan of dark meat over white meat made it that much more delicious. Loved the roll, the very fresh tomatoes and lettuce. The roasted vegetable and a hummus sandwich on whole-grain bread was fabulous. Sat outside for the meal then enjoyed a couple of delicacies from the bakery. The bourbon chocolate chip cookies were quite good if you like a cake-like cookie. Again by suggestion of the staff, the Blondie cookies were fantastic. They are rich and gooey and worth the trip all themselves. Also got the peach scone which at this point is TBD. Options to sit inside or outside are available. Enjoy!

Yazzi T.

Yelp
Fantastic location, outdoor seating, very comfy and quaint, friendly staff members coffee was amazing! Had the thumbprint cookie and the filling in the middle was just perfection! Soft cookie paired great with my iced latte! Food menu sounds intriguing can't wait to try their salads, sandwiches and bagels. If your in the area try them out!

Yelp
Village Hearth came highly recommended from some friends in the area, and it did not disappoint! Very laid-back atmosphere inside and out - just a nice place to relax and enjoy a good meal at a fair price. Not a huge menu, but what they do, they do very well. Outstanding baked goods! This shows up not only in their pastries, but in the quality of their sandwiches. (I had a the roast beef on a baguette, and I'm STILL talking about it). Customer service is friendly, contrary to what I've read elsewhere. And at the pick-up window, I was able to witness how hard these folks work while realizing that they certainly enjoy this. I live an hour and a half away, and I won't hesitate to make this a destination point - it's THAT good.

Michael P.

Yelp
I just found my new favorite cafe in Rhode Island. It's clean, bright, the team is super friendly and they have great indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered a regular drip coffee and a cinnamon roll. OMG the cinnamon roll literally tasted like Fall. It was absolutely delicious. They are LGBTQ+ owned and operated and it is a place where everyone is welcomed. So grab a beverage and a quick nosh and find a seat outside in the lush garden area. Bring a book a friend or do what I did, and people watch.

Laura W.

Yelp
This wonderful, airy oasis is a wonderful place to stop for hot or iced, coffee, or chai. Here is an assortment of refresh in-house made muffins and bagels as well as salads and light bites to enjoy for breakfast or lunch. The dining area has beautiful large windows, which overlook an outdoor patio which also has comfortable seating. Service is friendly and accommodating. I enjoyed an iced vanilla Chai and a blueberry muffin, which was chocked full of blueberries. This is a lovely place to stop for a quick bite if you're visiting beautiful Jamestown.

Yara F.

Yelp
Great service, a pretty hefty menu, and very cute seating area! Their pastries are my favorite but their avocado toast was pretty good too (if not a little under salted). With limited options in Jamestown this is a great spot for breakfast or lunch that my family frequents!

Laura N.

Yelp
Everything is terrific! Everyone is so kind and personable, food is delicious and always fresh, and espresso drinks are superb! Items we've had: quiche, caprese sandwich, roast beef sandwich, Portuguese muffin, blondie, coffee cake, cinnamon chip scone - and loved it all!

Kristen C.

Yelp
When you support your community your community supports you!!! We will always support small businesses in the Jamestown area; and just love the coziness and happiness this place brings us. THANK YOU

Kristen S.

Yelp
Super cute place. Love the inside and outside. Appreciated the gluten free treats. Cant wait to go back and try a breakfast sandwich or lunch item.

Rozet S.

Yelp
Awesome spot for brunch! Came here on a Saturday morning and ordered coffee and pastries. The iced mocha with oat milk was delicious. We also had the Nutella cookies (amazing!), chocolate chip cookies (so yummy!), and avocado toast (just okay). Definitely want to try a pizza to go for next time.

Jeff W.

Yelp
I like to drive by here as I'm going from Newport to the mainland and pick up a snack. I'm a big fan of their blonde brownies.

LM P.

Yelp
I resist leaving negative reviews....I'll leave this at : we love Jamestown and prefer to get our breakfast from other amazing locations locally. FYI-staff sold us an everything bagel after we asked for gluten free items-so first days of vaca were spent sick.

Elkins T.

Yelp
We love Village Hearth bakery!! It's such a cozy bakery with plenty of outdoor space for gobbling up all the delicious bakery goods. My favorite bakery treat is the blueberry scones, the are moist with a little added lemon zest and not too sweet. Bagels are freshly baked and not overly doughy. If you like everything bagel bagels you must try it here. Go to Village Hearth you will not be disappointed. Best pizza on the island fresh out of the stone oven!

Mariama D.

Yelp
I really don't need an excuse to visit Jamestown since I love it there but this place really adds to an already amazing town. My family and I have gotten breakfast here a few times and we have been greeted with the friendliest staff. The food and coffee are amazing and so is the ambience.

Edward M.

Yelp
Upon Our return to our summer timeshare in Jamestown we always try to stop by at this Bakery. This year we discovered new owners and although they made some interesting changes they no longer have sticky buns and a few other items. So now it's just another average Bakery

C T.

Yelp
Sorry, let me add geo-tagged and dated photos of the pizza the business owner claims is not theirs. Just like we couldn't stomach your pizza - it seems you can't stomach honest criticism. At the time we were served this, the old owner (specifically Andrea) was working that night which is why we were shocked. A young woman was working the outdoor pickup, she handed us the special and the three cheese. Seems like an awful lot of trouble to fake a review right? I really would rather not try your pizza again - no matter how many slices you're carefully trained to cut it into.

Jenn D.

Yelp
Palette perfection! I don't often write Yelp reviews, but I had such a wonderful experience at the village hearth that I wanted to share. The cafe is a beautiful and inviting space with a lovey garden where you can enjoy your food. I love that everything at the village hearth is made fresh and in house. My everything bagel breakfast sandwich was delicious. The homemade bagel had just the right amount of chew and flavor. The thumbprint cookies were to die for. They were buttery, flaky, and had the perfect amount of sweetness. My partner got a sticky bun and also seemed to really enjoy it. They also had a selection of gluten free items, though I didn't try any of them. You can tell that everything is made with a lot of care and attention. If you are anywhere near Jamestown, I would highly recommend this place. I will definitely make a point to go back.

Hillary G.

Yelp
Took an early morning trip to Jamestown and have been wanting to come here for a while now. Boy was it worth it! Absolutely delicious I will be back. Thank you guys

Stan S.

Yelp
I guess when you have a bakery on an island the bar is lower than the mainland. We stopped in for some pastry (scone and a muffin) and a ice coffee and I was disappointed in all of it. My scone and the muffin were clearly undercooked. The coffee roast had an unpleasant burned quality to it.

Christine M.

Yelp
How do I love thee, let me count the ways... This cafe ticks all the boxes for me: mellow vibe, friendly and competent staff, delicious food, and a lot of cute dogs accompanying their owners for some coffee and a bite to eat. Though I mostly come in for breakfast, I can't leave without a bourbon chocolate chip cookie for later (if later means in the car heading home). Lastly, I'm super picky about my cappuccinos, and they never disappoint. Pay them a visit soon

Stefanie L.

Yelp
The village hearth is under new management and unfortunately this is not a good thing. I stopped by to get an iced latte and it was served warm with barely any milk. I'm not sure that they know what a latte is honestly. Additionally when I went inside to order I saw a staff member with short hair eating right behind the counter with her mask hanging off her face. As someone who worked in restaurants for years, I'd never expect to see staff eating right behind the counter, but especially during a pandemic. The person who served me was really friendly and the place is overall really cute inside, but if you're looking for good coffee you're better off going to Slice of Heaven down the road.

Joanne B.

Yelp
Beautiful, welcoming place and delicious food! Well worth the trip if you're anywhere close to Jamestown.

Lisa C.

Yelp
Great service. Fantastic gluten free options. plenty of choices for everyone. haven't been to the island in a few years, but I love the changes at this location. So much more welcoming

Cathy Z.

Yelp
Village Hearth is a really adorable bakery and cafe that also serves wood-fired pizza every Sunday night. This special must be really popular, because there was already a huge line right when they reopened for dinner at 4:30pm! It seems like everyone in Jamestown comes out to get some freshly made pizza--either to take out or to enjoy on the patio with some BYOB wine! There were two pizza options, margherita (tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil) and a special with sausage and caramelized onion. You can check their website to see what special they are offering this week. The margherita pizza was delicious! It's a pretty thin, crispy crust, which I enjoy, but you might want to order a little bit more pizza than your family normally eats. They use a blend of mozzarella and cheddar cheese, which is not super traditional but gives a nice balance of creaminess and saltiness. I also tried a seasonal salad with beets, goat cheese, walnuts, and vinaigrette (~$8). Such a good combination! It seems like they get some of their vegetables and eggs from the farm nearby, Windmist Farm. The people that work here are so nice. Our pizza had a small hole in the crust, so the owner gave us a free loaf of fresh bread! We wouldn't have been bothered by the hole at all, but the bread was super tasty! I would definitely come here again for pizza night or to pick up a loaf of bread. I didn't get to try their coffee or pastries, but maybe another time!

Maria K.

Yelp
Nice little spot, conveniently located on the edge of town with very friendly staff. Sadly, the pastries are of the quality that makes you ask yourself, "Why am I eating this? It can't be good for me". If the pastries are really good, your only thought is, I wish it was bigger. I tried this spot a couple of times a year ago, and held off on reviewing. Tried again recently and I didn't notice an improvement. I 'd love for this place to up their game and maybe some constructive criticism will help. I haven't given up on you Village Hearth!

Michael K.

Yelp
So good I made the 40 minute drive from Providence twice this weekend. Excellent bakery and cafe in Jamestown. The breakfast sandwiches are on point. The fist day I had the quiche of the day which was fantastic. That and a decent cup of coffee make this a great place to visit.

C Z.

Yelp
Place is pretty understaffed. Long wait, and takes about 10 minutes to heat a sandwich. There's a sign on the front that says "order here", yet it seems the workers don't follow their own sign and take orders from another side of the counter too, from whoever just walks up despite there's a line in front of the sign. This makes the wait longer for people who followed the rules and lets others cut lines and put in orders without waiting. Complete chaos. Sandwiches are overpriced for this area. They also taste uneventful, lackluster. Salads are pre-made and taken out from a fridge at the front. Leaves in my salad withered and the carrots have gone dry. Also, the shop and the restroom were quite unhygienic, there were flies everywhere over dirty dishes and waste.

Jess B.

Yelp
If I could give more than 5 stars I would! This is a long overdue review. My family and I have a slight obsession (maybe not so slight! Telling from my review) with the Hearth. We love to walk here in the morning and sit outside with our son and eat. Our son loves looking at all the beautiful scenery and he highly enjoys the raspberry white chocolate and blueberry crumble muffins. He used to eat less so I could steal some nibbles here and there but now we each have our own. The list of things I would recommend trying is endless. For coffees our favorites are the Nitro, Iced Americano and Iced Mocha Latte. For breakfast we love their breakfast sandwiches. I love to get mine on a bagel - any bagel Lindsay makes is amazing so you cannot go wrong but if you like spice you must try the jalapeño cheese - it's perfection - Perfect combination of spice and cheesiness! For lunch We love the caprese and the BLT. We also cannot get enough of their Friday night pizza. Again we love sitting outside but at night it's great to be able enjoy a nice cold glass of wine or beer on the deck. Thank you Lindsay, Stephanie and everyone who works at Hearth for the delicious food and for always being so welcoming!!

Hope A.

Yelp
I live locally but not on the island. I've been to Village Hearth twice in the last month. I stopped with a friend on the way home from Newport for a quick lunch. We both loved our selections and the lovely patio area. The staff was helpful and super nice. I brought my husband back for breakfast and we also picked up a couple of gluten free muffins. Wish we could have enjoyed the patio but it was pouring. Overall I would definitely recommend this bakery, it's worth a stop.

Louis G.

Yelp
Wow a real good baked goods, espresso ( small batch coffee beans roasted), sandwiches, etc. Great owners...

S B.

Yelp
As a local, I am so incredibly thrilled that this mainstay bakery has been purchased by two lovely women who have brought some innovative and delicious new items to the menu [including a children's menu! My 5 year old approves of everything!] while keeping some of the old traditions like pizza night. The improvements to the interior are also delightful. Jamestown is very lucky to have this spot in our midst.

Laura A.

Yelp
This bakery is not only beautiful and cozy but the food is amazing. Hand made, fresh local ingredients, and innovative twists on comfort food. We have eaten here numerous times since the new owners opened and can't love it any more. Being across from the playground is a huge plus for families, not to mention there is a kid's menu! My four year old has tried everything on the kid's menu and he gives it five stars too! The new owners are kind and welcoming. Jamestown is lucky to have Chef Lindsay and Stephanie making their home here. Looking forward to our next visit!

Will G.

Yelp
Huge selection of breakfast goodies and sandwiches backed up by super friendly staff. Lots of seating and room for many dogs outside!

Lynel T.

Yelp
If you are local to Jamestown or passing through like I was, this is a must stop. You can smell the wood fire pizza oven as you approach and once inside an amazing selection of homemade pasties greet you. All are made by the chef/owner and I had to order a "to go bag"! My breakfast bagel and coffee did not disappoint. Staff was friendly and welcoming as well!! If I lived here I would go everyday.

R L.

Yelp
I used to give it five stars under the previous owners. And I like the new owners and really want them to succeed...

Joel B.

Yelp
This is one of my staples in Jamestown. We come here at least twice a week for their bagels, breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and pizza. And love all of it! We take everyone who comes to visit here and it has never disappointed. There is something for everyone.

Rene S.

Yelp
Dorrie and Andrea have done a fabulous job with the bakery. The pizza is utterly delicious with a tangy sauce every time. Crispy crust and creative toppings. Sausage for me. The breads are superior to any I've had in Rhode Island in over 20 years. Smoothies in the summertime enjoyed in the shade of the pergola. Heaven.

Izzy B.

Yelp
Sandwich was bland and bread was freshly-baked but strangely chewy in texture. Coffee was wonderful and the servers were extremely kind and helpful. The exterior was unique and charming. Needs some improvements with the food but an excellent place to stop for coffee during the day.

Dawn H.

Yelp
Forgot to mention in my updated review that it was a response to a private, snotty message to me from the owner that is not posted to my original review. Great business owner.

Amanda S.

Yelp
Beautiful morning! It was quite busy. One person makes the coffee, another takes orders and then a cashier. My order consisted of an iced french vanilla latte and a hot mocha latte. The iced could've had an extra pump of syrup and a little more ice, but other than that it was great! Going back to try their pastries and probably their pizza!

Frank T.

Yelp
We came hungry with high expectations. Alas! It's just a cranky little bakery in a town relying heavily on tourism and spontaneous visits by "tourists" such as myself. Certainly not an accommodating place. After 11:00am sandwiches are just pre-made like airport food. Good luck! When we arrived at 11:30am on a Friday there was no real bread in sight. H Just got a pastry to try and went elsewhere for real food. Edit: As you can see by the owner's need to attack me personally and hype the pile of pre-made sandwiches but not mention the lack of fresh bread, something is clearly off here. Edit 2: The "Cranky" appellation stands given the message the now angry owner sent. The owner fails to understand that 1. Most little bakeries can get away with quirky and cranky -- when they are very good, that's part of their charm and long lines. 2. Casual visitors are unaware of posted days and times. Given the response, and fact that the two pastries we bought were only fair, I've reduced the rating to one star in hopes of improvement. As Always, Caveat Emptor!
