Ochi Vongerichten’s Grub Street Diet

"An outdoor, bayfront Montauk restaurant with a lively, music-filled atmosphere that evokes the south of France; dishes are straightforward and highly satisfying, most famously a massive lobster Cobb salad (frequently joked about for its $98 price but deemed worth sharing) and a standout clambake with local clams, shrimp and squid." - Zach Schiffman

Holy cow. Best and I mean BEST Village Inn experience. I got a cheeseburger and it was absolutely great! Hot chocolate was a 11/10 because it was AMAZING! Waiter was very kind as well. The whole place looked fancy! Would definitely recommend this place to someone that's hungry while their car is being fixed or is just buying one. Everything was PERFECT!! 😆 (Great view next to windows too)

It seems like it wasn’t that long ago Colorado Springs had 7 or 8 Village Inns and now we’re down to just the two. Fortunately, the one on Duryea is close to our house so we still get over there a couple times a month for breakfast. They just finished a remodel and we like what they’ve done. It seems like it’s more open, with an increase in seating capacity, new tables, chairs, and booths, along with new flooring. We’ve heard some people aren’t thrilled, but we are fine with it. The food is still good, as is the service. On this visit my wife got the Country Music Star Omelette, but substituted green chili for the sausage gravy. I ordered the Ultimate Skillet with a side of green chili. We both thought our selections were very good, and the portion sizes and prices still seem reasonable. I think we’ll both be happy that we still have a Village Inn close by and that they’re trying to make it better, instead of complaining. So yeah, we’re recommending the Village Inn on Duryea!

Google
I recently visited the Village Inn and was absolutely delighted with my dining experience. The food was outstanding, with a variety of dishes that catered to every taste. I particularly enjoyed the pies, which were both delicious and reasonably priced. The atmosphere at the inn was warm and inviting, making it a perfect place for a relaxing meal. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant experience. The combination of great food and affordable prices made for a truly enjoyable visit. I highly recommend the Village Inn to anyone looking for a satisfying and budget-friendly dining experience.

Google
I Love Customer Service we always get here and they are so nice, positive vibes, and overall make my family and I always feel welcomed. It’s also very clean and comfortable. The food is always so fresh and hot when it comes out and is delicious, as well as the pies and pancakes. Also your team member Eric inspired me to put the fried egg inside my burger, which I really do but Eric encouraged me to give it a try and man was he right it was so GOOD!

Chris S.

Google
We all know prices are going up everywhere, but at Village Inn it feels like the prices are rising while the portions are shrinking. I don’t go often — maybe once or twice a month — and I always order the Ultimate Skillet. It used to be a relatively large, satisfying breakfast. Not anymore. I can’t post pictures here, but the portion has gotten so small that I can cover the entire dish with one hand — and I’m not a big guy. For what they’re charging now, the value just isn’t there. To be clear, there was nothing wrong with the service. The staff was great. This feels like a corporate decision — just plain greed.

Soup came out. The pancakes were served on the smallest plate. We had to ask another server to get our server to warm up the soup and get a bigger plate. It took two different servers to make said adjustments snd they gave us an attitude like we were the problem We were not checked in at all. She also took her a plates without asking with food on it. So you're not gonna check on us at all.And then you're in a buss our plates too early. We were never asked once if he needed or wanted anything else.We were handed the bill and no refills

Google
I frequent this establishment every few months and have never had a complaint until today. My daughter and I stopped in for linner, the waitress was great, my daughter was full and I left with my order in a togo box. Apparently the cook simply couldn't understand that I wanted a cheddar burger with chicken, not beef. 30 minutes after my daughter received her pancakes I still had no meal. If the restraunt was busy I could see a mix up but it was JUST US! The waitress said the cook was having a fit about my order and that's what the hold up was. Im not sure we will be back.

Google
The food is always good and consistent. I really like the staff. They have all been there for a while and are great with our kids. My table is always clean and the food is cooked how I request it. My favorite meal is the biscuits and gravy, which I order with eggs over-easy. From an atmosphere standpoint, it is definitely due for an update. They have done well mending the rips in the benches and other signs of aging, however aside of the damages from age, it is dated and would benefit from being modernized to fit in to this century. Overall, I like coming here though, because my kids enjoy it and I can count on the staff and food. I will continue to return.

Yelp
Came here for a quick breakfast on a Friday morning. We were sat immediately but the service was slow. They also served our kid a cup that was leaking and we couldn't find anyone to take it until our food was served. I chose the Denver omlete and it was delicious, eggs cooked perfectly and very tasty. The hash browns were over done and burnt but I was happy with the toast. We thought about ordering pie but our server gave us our check without asking or giving us the opportunity to ask so we decided no and left. Don't expect much from a village inn, average food and below average service.

Yelp
My wife, adult daughter and I visited this restaurant for supper a few nights ago. We arrived to the restaurant at 6:50pm. The location was convenient, the parking lot was full, we were not greeted upon entering, the manager of the restaurant finally greeted us with an irritated, sour look on his face (he was obviously stressed) which made us want to turn around and leave the place immediately, we were seated, our order wasn't taken for at least 20 minutes, our food arrived warm about 15 minutes later, our server was polite and patient, the food was delicious though expensive, the dining room was packed but clean, the restroom was decent and didn't smell bad, and no music was playing in the dining room.

Yelp
I LOVE Village Inn. It's myself and my son and grandson's favorite spots! Not to mention affordable. We love to meet on an off day and go here and get yummy breakfast or lunch! Service is always pretty good! It's not been the cleanest lately because they have been short staffed but I was told they are getting a whole new revamp of the interior! Which means they are not closing like a few others did.
google avatar

Yelp
Disappointed is all I can really say. Coffee tasted like soap. Way, way too many onions in the meal and I was given about 2 bites of hashbrowns. Plus they informed us as we walked in they were out of pancakes and waffles. The menu said they're made from scratch. Hopefully it was just a bad day. The other location was nothing like this.

Julie T.

Yelp
Service was fantastic. Great vibes from employees when you walk in and it really makes a difference. They pranked one of them saying our table requested him and it was funny because he didn't recognize us . I hope this location doesn't close down. We enjoyed our food and service.

Jay M.

Yelp
Food was awesome, service is definitely a 100 out of 10, and the newly remodeled restaurant makes it one of the nicest restaurants in town. The only thing that saddened us was the removal of their corn beef and hash for breakfast. The wife my and I came in specifically for it after church, but was told it was discontinued. Whether they're a franchise or corporate we would like to plead or beg that you bring it back.
google avatar

Yelp
Seated promptly on a Sunday morning around 10 AM. No server acknowledgment for quite a while for coffee and juice, etc. Food took a very long time to be served. Nothing exotic - pancakes, eggs, and bacon all around. It's a pancake house for crying out loud. Only watery maple "syrup" was provided. Coffee was on the weak side and the pancakes had a "different" taste to them. I was not impressed and would probably not return. Loads of people waiting to be seated when we left. I really wanted to warn them what they were waiting to experience. Perkins is so much better! McDonald's, too, for that matter.

Gary P.

Yelp
Free pie Wednesdays and a really fine menu and great services Lots of coffee and the food far better than list level of restaurant usual offers

Chuck E.

Yelp
Our server Kai was awsome, everything was great. Will definitely be back to see Kai. The restaurant was clean.

Yelp
It has been YEARS since I was in a Village Inn. We received a gift card and happened to be out early (ugggg!) so we decided to stop in for brunch. It was great! That homemade sausage patties were the best. Interior just like I remember. Clean and very friendly. I belive our server was Eric. I almost left with a pie but restrained myself! Yum!
google avatar

Tim D.

Yelp
Damn, their food, especially pies, are so good. But their service not so. Ordered 3 pie slices online but when I went to pickup, curbside, no one ever came out. After 10 min I had to go inside. There was no server in sight for another 10 min. Two of us were waiting. We could hear staff in the back. Finally, someone came out but when I told them that I was picking up an order they had to go in the back, cut and bag my order, which took another 10 min. Online ordering way too hard. But having staff partying in the back was not good.
google avatar

Tamara C.

Yelp
Already reviewed them and these are the pictures of the terrible condition their seats are in.

Yelp
Going to review the service and not the food, because I haven't eaten yet. Super helpful staff! Ordered my food to go after changing my mind from Sonic nearby because they keep on messing up my orders over there. And Sonic is slow most of the time even in the drive-through. As I was sitting there, waiting for my food, they even came by to let me know that it was gonna be out in just a few more minutes. After thinking the assistant manager (Pam) we chatted for a few more minutes. The girl who took my order was really courteous also. Good job all around! Whoever the head manager is... Nice job on hiring! Make sure you keep them!

Lynn Lavelle M.

Yelp
Rude waitress, waited 40 minutes for our food and when it was brought to the waitress's attention, she said that things happen sometimes. Never an apology. This used to be a nice and friendly restaurant but not anymore. Wouldn't recommend. Western Omelette and other locally owned and run restaurants are far much better.
google avatar

Miran C.

Yelp
We went in for breakfast about 3 weeks ago but didn't stay because a host's appearance looked like a homeless person. We were not comfortable eating at a place where employees were allowed to dress with filthy clothes. Wondered how dirty the kitchen would be. Questionable management practice!

Chris B.

Yelp
Food looks and tastes amazing..... was assisted by Kai and she made amazing recommendations as i was on a budget..... got breakfast and a slice of pie.... I will definately come back as to her amazing customwr service
google avatar

Jon L.

Yelp
It was a good experience and the omelettes are great! I also highly recommend the biscuits, and the special breakfast meal!

Chai B.

Yelp
Food was mediocre, there was a hair in my fruit and my toast was burnt. Seems like they're short staffed, the waitress we had was running everywhere and forgot what I had ordered twice. I've been coming here off and on for years and have never been so disappointed.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
Good pie! We popped in after Saturday night church to share a slice of pie. Berry pies are generally lower calorie, so we split a slice of Strawberry Rhubarb. The consistency and taste were great. The only con was the Rhubarb was not real soft. It had a bit of crunch to it. The coffee and service was great and the Manager stopped by to check on us before we left. We've haven't eaten a meal here yet but we will be back for pie!
google avatar

Rick V.

Yelp
Stopped in for one of their wonderful desserts. Our server "JADA" was great. Ordered: Country Apple Pie Ala Mode with caramel sauce and nuts. Wonderful.. Triple Berry Pie Ala Mode. Also Wonderful.. Great service and food. Can't be beat..

Mitch M.

Yelp
Used to be a nice place to take the family for breakfast. Something has surely ruined this place. Waitress said some kind of ownership, change. Needs to be bought out by a restaurant operator with pride. Or bulldozed and turned into apartments.
google avatar

Jeremy S.

Yelp
If you are ordering pies during the holidays, you may want to rethink it. If you pre order and pay, you must pick up behind the building and wait in line for 30 min or more. If you walk in and buy...in and out in under 5 minutes. Not sure the point of pre ordering if the system to distribute pies is not organized. Mind you...these are pre ordered and by name. Not a grad concept. Horrible!!!!
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick bite while getting vehicle serviced nearby. The staff was very friendly here! Everyone from our host, server and cashier! Restaurant is clean and open, lots of space and windows so it's bright. Food was good and fast as well!

Isabel M.

Yelp
So I've eaten at the village in many times and all times have had good quality food. Until today.I ordered a garden salad off of DoorDash and did not expect this. Very distasteful and unsatisfactory.

Rachael S.

Yelp
Please rename this skillet to "potato with tiny amount of veggie skillet". I chose this skillet because there were no potatoes in the description and the picture looked like it was just filled with vegetables. That is not what I got. It is 90% potato. Also, when ordering online it would be great for you to add a non-bread option for the "required" side for those of us that are trying to eat healthy.

Yelp
The Village Inn Colorado Springs located on Garden of the Gods before the on ramp for I25, has horrible food. My chicken ranch sandwich was so flavorless and over-dried & overcooked, I LEFT FEELING LIKE I NEED TO DEMAND MY MONEY Back!!! $39.98 NEEDS TO BE REFUNDED WOW!!!

Greg L.

Yelp
I enjoy this Village Inn because the food always tastes hot, fresh and delicious. And my favorite waitress there is Luisa, who is an absolute sweetheart and in my opinion one of the best waitresses I have ever encountered. She always remembers my preferences and never lets my drink go empty. She is superb.

Lydia C.

Yelp
Our server was very kind and sweet (I forgot her name, and unfortunately) but the whole place was filthy and disgusting. The napkins our silverware was wrapped in were disgusting and covered in different stains and specks of food, silverware was covered in crusted bits of food, tables weren't thoroughly wiped down and covered in crumbs and syrup stains, floor was covered in crumbs, bathroom was disgusting. Food was good but my pancakes were covered in black bits of char (I'm assuming). Overall, the appearance is concerning as the appearance of a restaurants hints to the safety and hygiene measures they partake in.

Kali T.

Yelp
Came into Village Inn while my truck was being on at Toyota and let me just say I totally thought all of our VIs were closed and I am SO happy this one is still open. The staff alone made our day multiple times. Our waitress Melissa was so sweet and attentive. She got three tables at once and took care of us all. And the gentlemen busting tables made sure we were doing okay and said hi to the kiddos. It was extra nice that when my daughter decided to scream and we got some looks he talked back with her and made her laugh. It was a very enjoyable breakfast!

Lisa V.

Yelp
I am spending Thanksgiving alone this year and ordered a turkey dinner with pecan pie at 11am to be picked up at 4pm. What I got was crap. No biscuit but garlic bread, no cranberry sauce, and the gravy was beef gravy not turkey gravy. Also they ran out of pecan pie. Village Inn on Durayea is going downhill fast.

Jay L.

Yelp
Food is just average. Service is always really slow.. Server brought the food out and said she would bring us syrup but did not come back and had to go to the kitchen entrance and ask some on in the kitchen for some.

Yelp
After getting up and wanting breakfast, I decided to go to my favorite place in Colorado Springs, Village Inn. I am from Dallas and we do not have this chain. Today was a bittersweet experience for me. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the chips it came with were supposed to be crispy, I had the hardest time biting into the chip, the few pieces of chicken were stale and there was a sauce on top of it all that I was not familiar with. I mentioned to the manager what had happened and both he and our waitress apologized, and offered that I order something else from the menu. After mentioning I was already full from just the eggs and didn't want to order anything else, the waitress comped my meal without hassle and was very polite. All I wanted was to give a heads up! This experience made me give this location a 5 Star. Customer service was great for me today and I hope they keep it going that way for the long run of the restaurant. Thank you Village Inn!
google avatar

Janice T.

Yelp
Much better! Quick service and our food was hot when it was served within 15 minutes after ordering. This is the service and quality we have seen in the past. You have regained our confidence in your restaurant. Thank you, Brian (Manager) for calling and discussing this with me and for encouraging us to give you another chance. Your staff did not disappoint and your efforts were greatly appreciated. Also, thanks, Matt, for responding to my previous review.
google avatar

Kari C.

Yelp
I feel so bad for the employees here. This review is not a reflection on them at all. They are doing their best and the food is delicious. It's not even management's fault. It is clearly gross and egregious neglect from the owner or corporate. So please don't reply asking for more information. The information is here and I'm not giving you anymore of my time when you clearly don't give any time or consideration to this location. When we arrived there was a 15-20 minute wait, even though the restaurant was empty because they were so short staffed. One of the cooks was serving and servers and managers were cooking in the back. It was pure chaos. They had no clean cups because they had no dishwasher and every inch of the restaurant was absolutely filthy. They had all their morning cooks walk out on Friday and Saturday they almost shut down completely because cooks left crying. How do I know this? Because the employees had to explain their dire situation to every customer that walked in. This restaurant should be shut down and all employees placed on paid leave until the owner/corporate can fix the serious neglect this location suffers from.

Stephen J.

Yelp
I purchased a French Silk Pie from this Village Inn (Colorado Springs Colorado 7384 Duryea Drive) during Christmas Season, 2022... to serve as dessert for a family function. The pie was inedible. Way too sweet. Sickening, syrupy sweet. Terrible. Disappointing. There has to be a better bakery in Colorado Springs. I'm done with Village Inn.
google avatar

Shaun R.

Yelp
The food and pies are amazing. However the customer service is some left to be desired! The last three time here, have been a nightmare. When you make a reservation for pie pickup two days prior and a certain time, you need to stick with that time. Also, telling customers to wait outside while it 25 and wind is blowing crazy is lack of common sense. Let them know to wait in their car and they will be called on their cell phone. Come on, comment sentinel above are probably reasons why the other locations have closed their doors.
google avatar

Hanna M.

Yelp
I can see why most of these have closed down. Walked in and checked our names in was told it was a 20-30 minute wait. Bigger family walked in right after me and they were told 10-15 minute wait... Finally got seated after almost an hour, ordered a French toast combo it comes with the option of bacon or sausage, so I asked if I could substitute the meat for something else because I don't eat pork, the server told me no. I said well I don't eat pork so can you just add the difference for a different side? He said he asked his co-worker and they said no they can't do that. So before I got mad my husband suggested they order it meatless and just add a side of hash browns. I don't understand how a breakfast place can only offer pork side options... 2 eggs also came with the meal, I asked for over medium and was given very over easy, wayyy too runny and the whites not cooked all the way. Yuck. The server never came and checked on us or asked how the food was. He dropped off the food and the check together and never came back.

Douglas A.

Yelp
Village Inn used to be one of our favorite restaurants when we came to Colorado on vacation. Now we are living here and so disappointed. We loved their Chicken noodle soup down to the broth. Now there is no flavor. We did see where an old time favorite was added back to the menu. It was good but had to ask for our mashed potatoes. Then the pie selection is so small that getting a free piece of pie on Wednesday is not worth it. Just sad.

Karine L.

Yelp
Smellly cleanliness not the best lacks staff and the food is mediocre. Sorry but not good. If any of these important, hard pass. Shame. I used to be a fan.
google avatar

Dick H.

Yelp
Our host and server were friendly and helpful. Josh was very attentive, making sure we had everything we needed (unique these days). The food was just good comfort food. Chicken fried steak and eggs. Not the best steak, but pretty good. Gravy was a bit salty for our preference. We HAD to take some pie home... and yes, it was delicious too.
google avatar

Jeff G.

Yelp
Frozen, not fresh "Would you like to place an order for one of our fresh pies?" Said the girl as she answered the phone. I was calling to complain that TWO HOURS after bringing it home, my "fresh" pie was still frozen. I'm not sure what dictionary Village Inn uses but in mine frozen does not equal fresh. Shame on you and stop advertising your pies as fresh.
google avatar

Craig M.

Yelp
Great service!! My server was super friendly and fast, providing everything I asked for far above my expectations. I was further impressed by the fact it appeared she had a large amount of tables, including myself. I was also pleased to see the assistant manager circulating the restaurant, checking in on tables to see if they needed anything. The restaurant itself seemed like it had a very busy lunch, as I arrived at around 3. There were some empty tables that were dirty and the floor was peppered in crumbs, but I suppose you would expect that around this time. I ordered the Double Decker Club with fries and an Ice T and Coke (Odd quirk of mine). After, a slice of pecan pie. The sandwich wasn't noteworthy, but it was exactly what you would expect from a diner. The only reason it wasn't five stars was because the fries were served under-cooked. Minor flaw.
google avatar

Bonnie S.

Yelp
This is a great family restaurant. The service is solid, the manager always asks if we had a good experience, the food hits the spot & the prices are really reasonable. I bring my elderly mom here all the time & they treat her so well. I appreciate this restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
We're here today and my husband ordered the Ruben burger with coleslaw. It was very good. I ordered a Classy Cobb salad. The salad looked wet and the chicken was dry. I told the manager and she kindly suggested I order something else. I ordered a mushroom, onion, spinach and cheese omelette with a side of hash browns. The meal looked good, but I didn't have a fork to eat it with. Our waitress left and we were left to looking out for her. She didn't come by so my husband went to get one for me. The omelette was just scrambled eggs folded in half on my plate. There was no spinach and few onion pieces. The hash browns were good. It's a shame that the cook today was sloppy and service was not as good as other times we've been here..
google avatar

Jessica V.

Yelp
There was a mixup with my Grubhub order, so I called in to find out what to do and Muhammad answered and was AMAZING. Such an amazing employee, took care of the mixup himself and brought me my order, he even brought us a slice of pie for the mixup that my baby brother loved. Fantastic human, fantastic service!
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
The same old menu. Good with all American food and deserts. Reminds me alot of Danny's just a little nicer

Howard F.

Yelp
I am so ashamed for this restaurant. It has been the dependable place to go for breakfast for years. The coffee tasted like water, the turkey sausage tasted like sawdust with some odd flavor, but worst of all the coconut cream pie was hard frozen and looked and tasted like it had been in the freezer for years, and the cook didn't even put any fresh whipped cream on it. I ate it because I wanted it and didn't want to make a fuss. I told the waiter, but I shouldn't have eaten it and then I might have got my money back. The pancakes and eggs were good, which is why I gave them 1star. It seems what this place is mostly lacking is a professional cook, because those bad things should have never left the kitchen

Yelp
We have been coming to this Village Inn for several years. Always clean! The staff are friendly and professional looking. The food has always been very good. My orders have always been correct. Today I ordered the VIB Supreme. You can select from a variety of breakfast items on the menu and create your own meal. It was very good! Of course we will be back!!!

Yelp
This is the best village inn I have been to. My brother and I come every week on Wednesday for free pie for the past two years. We have had very few problems and a lot of good food from this location in particular. Almost all the servers are extremely nice and very attentive. My only complaint was that the free pie selection sometimes does not include the featured pie like they used to do and just the fruit and a few others.
