Village Museum

An interesting museum consisting of four houses you can visit with a single ticket. While it’s not in the best condition, it has great potential. The staff is very sweet and friendly. What’s disappointing is that few of the items in the museum are actually authentic to the houses on display—many of the paintings on the walls are replicas unrelated to the museum, and some objects don’t even match the historical period. Worth a visit, but don’t set your expectations too high.

The museum is an ensemble of four houses from different phases of Stellenbosch's history. Guides give a short introduction to the history of the house and it's interiors. One room gives a glimpse into what slavery looked like in those times.

Interactive, digital history on large screen with voice-over at start of tour. Live introductions at each of 4 museum houses presentations by staff dressed in historic outfits. Gardens are lovely. Had a nice, educational, relaxing experience. Liked it!

4 beautifully renovated Dutch style houses from the 18th century. The house has some of the same period furnishings that made the houses more time appropriate. Very nice experience.

Very cool to see what Stellenbosch looked like throughout the ages. And it’s right in the middle of Stellenbosch, so well worth a visit.

Visited on a trip with a friend and it was a very unique museum experience. It was a snapshot of what different houses in different periods of Stellenbosch’ history looked like, filled with knowledgeable staff recreating stories about the towns past.

I truly enjoyed my visit here, listening to the guides introduction to each house, then exploring the houses and getting a glimpse and feel of life back then.

Very nice and sweet. A series of four refurbished homes from different eras. Each house with many pieces of old furniture and decorations. Many antique artifacts of life on display. History comes alive. Doesn't take long but worth it.
