Premium rental goods in a premium location.
Had the good fortune of finding Village Ski while Googling a specific pair of late-model Rossignol demo skis. Yup, they had 'em in stock, and called back at 7:30am to confirm that they'd put them aside. So far, so good.
Store decor was pretty standard for ski shops - carpeted counter with way too much in terms of soft goods making navigation around the premises difficult. So it goes.
The shock was the discovery that the premium demo skis ($700 skis/binding, minimum) were available for rent for TWENTY BUCKS (after online coupon) - $25 with boots and poles. With deals like that, it makes it very difficult to justify purchasing new skis. Or cross the street to get fleeced by the on-resort rental services which run in the $30s-40s range.
That's right - Village is quite literally across the street from Loon's employee entrance. Save some cash and get better stuff that hasn't been ridden more than, well, other rentable entities.
Additionally, stay tuned for the end-of-season demo sale. Usually lightly ridden (go rent one and see for yourself), current model year skis with excellent bindings can be had for significant discounts. Don't try ask to buy a set early - they're pretty strict about the sale date.
