This hotel is a very good value considering how well it is located. The rooms are smartly designed and laid-out. Everything is very comfortable and clean. The staff work hard to make your stay very nice. Tip of the hat to Susan for making our stay so memorable!

Villas Macondo is a literal hidden gem of a hotel. With spacious rooms and decently sized bathrooms, a pretty big pool, a tropical feel to the property, and an exceptional staff, the place deserves all its accolades. The rooms are basic and not very aesthetic, but they do the job if all you want is a decently comfortable room to sleep in. The property isn't massive, but there is more than enough space to lounge by the pool and not feel too crowded. The abundance of trees gives the property a tropical feel and plenty of shade, making it feel like a haven in the Tamarindo heat. A bonus is all the wildlife you get to encounter from iguanas to howler monkeys. There's also a playground perfect for kids and pool toys to keep everyone entertained in the pool. There is a pretty equipped kitchen if you decide to cook, but with the hotels' proximity to town, a literal 1 minute walk, cooking isn't a necessity. There is an abundance of restaurants, cafes, food courts, and supermarkets just steps away. We absolutely loved the quiet yet central location. Far away enough from the noise but close to everything. It was perfect. In just seconds, we could leave the hustle of the town behind and retreat to the quiet of our hotel. The hotel isn't perfect, but it is definitely worth a visit, especially if you're trying to have the best vacation on a budget. Could the hotel use some updating, absolutely. The bathrooms need some work, the beds could be more comfortable, and there needs to be more pillows as one flat pillow per guest isn't enough. Plus, the shower head had issues keeping the water pressure stable. There wasn't any storage in the rooms either so be prepared to live out of your suitcase. There were different setups for different rooms, so I'm not sure if this is true for every single room. However there was a fridge and a safe in the rooms and having a fridge inside the room was a definite plus. Just be mindful that Costa Rica is a tropical place with ants and bugs galore. There isn't much the hotels can do about that. For the price, Villas Macondo was an unbeatable deal and a budget friendly way to enjoy Tamarindo with our family of six. The staff are incredibly accommodating and extremely friendly as well. When I saw that the original price I booked our rooms for on booking had been decreased, the hotel helped us out and gave us an even lower price. I cannot say enough great things about this place. We had an amazing stay

I really enjoyed my stay here, the receptionist was super friendly and gave us some great recommendations. The room was basic, but comfortable. Just make sure to bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. This hotel is close to everything and super well located. The pool is nice and in the shade, and there are hammocks to relax in. We especially loved the cat named Toto who came to visit us every day.

Excellent location, right in the heart of the town. 2 minutes walk to the beach. We only stayed for 4 nights and did so much due to the location. The staff were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Room cleaned everyday. |The outside was peaceful and we enjoyed sitting in the hammock watching the wildlife and talking with other holiday goers. Very peaceful. |The room had a fridge and a safe. An iron on request and shampoo and body wash. We noticed you could book transfers and tours although we had pre booked ours before landing in Costa Rica. But the prices were definitely a lot better than we had paid.

Loved staying here, I have lived in Tama for 7 years but my houses were rented out during high season and I needed to find somewhere to stay. The location is amazing next to a super market and a food court and close to the beach, Susan the receptionist is very kind as well as the night guard. Hotel is very clean and well kept

During the reservation process I was sure that this place was great and so the staff. Unfortunately when I arrived I had to change my mind. They assigned me the last apartment, almost outside the garden with garbage view. Moreover this terrible apartment was next to a construction (owned by the place!!!) that from 6-7am started to make huge noise. If was not enough, there was also the kitchen 1 meter from my slim wall and I could hear every single word from people there (0 privacy). I also had no electric plug close to the bed.. there was only 1 under the bed ( are you kidding me?). Again they couldn't help so I had to move all forniture to make the plug accessible!! I slept probably 3 hours a night.. I tried to complain but the answer was: " I am sorry but we have only this room left". They were lucky that I didn't book using booking.com otherwise I would have ask a full refund.

Pura vida!||I had a one week stay at the Villas Macondo hotel in Tamarindo in mid-December. I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and hope to return. Here are the things I liked best about the Villas Macondo hotel. ||1. Location - It is situated in the heart of Tamarindo, with a slow, easy 3 minute stroll (in flip flops) to the beach. In between there are plenty of restaurant and food choices. I enjoyed the El Mercadito, an outdoor food court with a wide variety of delicious Central and South American foods. El Mercadito was a 1 minute stroll from my room. Note, the hotel is in the centre of town so it can be busy. It didn’t bother me. ||2. The style and decor - This is an older hotel with a Central American style. Check the photos on their website. I really enjoyed the vibe here. When I checked in there was a family of three howler monkeys in the trees above my unit.||3. The bathroom and shower - The bathroom was large, with a double - sized shower area. It was perfect for showering off after being at the beach swimming or surfing, or after a day of hiking. It was easy to dump my clothes, rinse the sand off and hung them right there. ||4. The hammock - Each room has a small covered patio with a table, chairs, a hammock and a large ceiling fan overhead. Laying in the hammock after an active day out hiking, swimming or sightseeing was great. I dozed there most afternoons or evenings. Other guests also seemed to be enjoying the hammocks too.||5. The terrific staff - Susan and Ivana! They were amazing. Friendly, nice, helpful. They exude the Costa Rican philosophy of “Pura vida”. Susan emailed me the day after I booked my stay. Susan and Ivana provided suggestions for tours and activities. They booked my tours and transfer from the airport. Ivana booked a surfing lesson for me. I asked Ivana if the surf school took photos during the class. Ivana offered to take them since it was her day off. Ivana is an incredible photographer and an artist. Tip, if you want a photographer for anything while you are there, talk to Ivana. ||6. The price - It was great value. It had what I wanted at a great price. ||Thank you to Ivana, Susan and the Villas Macondo. I had a thoroughly enjoyable vacation in Tamarindo and look forward to returning to Villas Macondo. ||Pura vida!
