Can’t recommend this place more! We rented a villa jungle side, so used the hotel for the beach and food. Possibly the best Sri Lankan breakfast (order the day before) we have had followed by a refreshing fruit platter. The staff are very attentive and friendly, particularly Chaminda, nothing is too much trouble, and he is very knowledgeable of the island. The sun beds are comfortable and close to the sea, great location. We will be back!

It was our second time staying in the villa. This year we stayed for a month. The villa is only 5 minutes away from the beautiful beach, at the same time it is away from busy roads, it was very quiet. We watched monkeys jumping on the trees from the balcony and listened to the tropical birds. Rooms are equipped with air conditioners, some have kitchen. Our room was cleaned with love every day. But the main germ was family like caring atmosphere in the villa. Many guests had breakfasts together in the common area, sometimes even dinners. We met people from the last year and made some new friends. We truly felt ourselves like being at home. We would like to thank the owner and the host for always being there for us, all our needs and requests. It was very relaxing and stress free vacation. We are looking forward coming here again.

We came for dinner. They were setting the tables on the beach and we decided to try. The portions were suuupersmall (and we are 3 girls) - 5 prawns and 3 small slices of tuna fish. Though we were only guests, they managed to mix up the order. The food was average. Service was slow. Would not recommend!

My daughter and I went for an evening meal. We ordered fish, 45 minutes later still no food though they did delivery the beer which we had already consumed. The table next to us had been waiting over 1 hour without food and went to complain. They got their food but for some reason only ate part of it and left, obviously their night was spoiled. I also complained, the manager came to the table with 2 tiny bottles of sprite assuming thiis was enough to chill my mood. I told him to at least offer something decent and declined the sprite. Nothing else came. |Though they were not serving food on time they were on time with all the alcoholic beverages orders in quantity. |Another couple waited over half an hour for someone to take their order, they complained but still no one came so they got up and left. Obviously more profit and less work serving beer. |When our food arrived, king fish, I have to say it was very good. But the experience was unpleasant, the service and attitude of the manager and staff was unacceptable. I was served with a bill with a hefty service charge. I refused to pay for the service charge. I wouldn’t go back in a hurry after that experience.

The awful service Looks like the main source of income it is cheating of tourists. Double check bill that they bring… They thought if the evening and tourist is drunk can set another price in bill that in menu! Moreover food and drinks were terrible After noticed they bring us to manager and it were usual practice for them and even didn’t excused Highly DON’T RECOMMEND this place The worst place in Sri Lanka UPD: they replied that it related to another hotel...NO, I have double checked and pretty sure. instead of saying your client mixed up hotels etc just improve your service and will be enough

The Villa Hotel - Unawatuna compares favorably with its location in the center of the beach, the opportunity to have breakfast on an open shady terrace overlooking the ocean. The hotel building is made in the traditional Sri Lankan style, the doors, windows and cornice are inlaid with wood - a very pleasant atmosphere. Breakfast is modest but sufficient. The hotel staff is attentive and caring. The hotel is not for a relaxing holiday, because the restaurant plays loud rhythmic music from lunch until late in the evening, more suitable for a disco than for dinner. The room on the first floor overlooks the restaurant - it could be a staff room but not a guest room, don't take it.

If waiter tells you that a SOUP will be served in 5-10 minutes. He lies. It took over 30 minutes to serve a basic soup. It's not acceptable. And to bring a drink it's 15 minutes. From a fridge 10 steps away.
