Vilnius University

Founded in 1579. I only know the Faculty of Philology, although there are other faculties in the Old Town, including the nearby Faculty of Philosophy. The Faculty of Philology is wonderful faculty situated in the heart of the old town. Well-equiped auditoriums. Spacious faculty with decorated walls, objects of art, frescos and traditional courtyards steeped in history. Dean has a number of allocated rooms signifying administrative importance! I taught Cultural Studies here in the Department of English Philology for three and a half years. Absolutely wonderful time. Top notch. Lithuanian students are superb. I have taught in a number of universities and they are best students I have had. International students, including Erasmus exchange students generally have a positive experience in this faculty. English Department however has a weak research profile and I must say a rather submissive teaching unit. Hopefully students will graduate with a wholesome higher education. I quote Andre Breton: "Education is our words, our discretion, the limits of our freedom, the music we listen to, our body language, how much we love to learn, to change, to read as if we were always unwritten papers". Finally, I have a little claim to fame as my course on Youth Cultures was, I am led to believe, the most popular in the faculty!! Long live Vilnius University!!!

Our group of 7 travelers from 5 countries enjoyed strolling through the university. We found the different faculties building. We also viewed the area where married professors live with a family area. The walk is all wheel chair accessible Beautiful university that is close to a food court with several cafes, shop, and market that offers student discount

Visiting Vilnius University was one of the highlights of my trip to Vilnius. Even as a tourist (not a student), I was instantly drawn to its rich history and stunning architecture. Walking through its baroque courtyards felt like stepping back in time — each courtyard has its own story, with centuries of culture embedded in its walls. The library was particularly impressive, holding over 5 million documents, including Lithuania’s oldest printed book from 1487. The Observatory Courtyard was another gem — a place where science and history meet. I loved discovering the harmony between academia and artistry here. What really made the visit memorable was the sense of being part of something timeless — a place where generations have gathered to learn, debate, and create. Vilnius University is not just an educational institution; it is a living monument to Lithuanian culture.

I must see. Make sure you get the brochure and do the tower do the things you see in the brochure there's some real hidden gems. One of the prettiest university campuses I've ever been to.

Beautiful compound, the inside of the cathedral is a must see. Free toilets 😁

Vilnius University is a gorgeous complex, worthy of some time devoted to visiting. There were tickets being sold for acess to some part of the University. I opted to see what was available to the public without a ticket, including the Church of St. John's. A visit to the University is very much worth your time wgen in Vilnius.

The complex is really impressive and has several yards with impressive architecture. It is ideal to have a quiet walk away from the crowded old town, the entrance for individuals is free.
