The Best Way to Cook Meat, According to These Argentine Chefs

"As a tourist, I wasn’t invited to private gatherings, although they’re so common I did, accidentally, crash the Friday staff asado at Viña Cobos winery." - Jane Sigal

This is Paul Hobb's winery in Valley de UCO. Hobbs arrived here in 1988, and recognized the potential for producing world class Malbec. At Vina Cobos he has produced 100 point rated wines on multiple occasions. We had a tour of the winery, and a tasting of 5 wines - a chardonnay, and 4 Malbecs. Included were two entry level Malbecs, from different parcels of land, one fruit forward, and the second with deeper dark fruit and string tannins. Then we tasted 2019 Viña Cobos Zingaretti Estate Malbec, and2021 Viña Cobos Vinculum Malbec. (Both rated 96 by James Suckling), exquisite! The estate buildings are impressive, with four tasting rooms. The winemaking areas are spotlessly clean, in keeping with the precision of the attention to detail in the wine making. Our host was very knowledgeable and friendly.

Unforgettable experience at Viña Cobos. Their wines are part of my all-time favorites wines of Argentina. The 2017 Malbec Bramare from the Chañares Estate and Marchieli vineyard were truly outstanding. The installations are modern and elegant. We were very fortunate to get first class treatment during our visit and tasting. As professional sommeliers, the highlight of the visit was the opportunity to chat with Paul Hobbs. Priceless!

We had a private wine tour and tasting that was absolutely fabulous. Not only did we get a comprehensive tour of the facility, it included an intimate sit down private tasting with Valentina, who was so knowledgeable and communicated the nuances of wine making and tasting to us perfectly. We got curated bites that were paired perfectly with our wines with a detailed explanation of why they were paired as such, which really helped elevate my understanding of wine and food pairing. 10/10 highly recommend visiting!!!

Vina Cobos has it all. It's a lovely property with exceptional wines, and generous staff. Pablo and his team went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable experience. The team even went out of their way to speak english to us, which is hard to come by in Mendoza. The experience is as elevated as they come. I can't wait to come back and visit again soon.

We had a fantastic time in our wine tasting - great wines, a very modern space and impressive services. We were welcomed by Pia who offered us some wine whilst we waited for other guests to arrive. We could see that they were very careful with the details as they were always checking on us and on the table setting. Pia was a great host throughout our entire visit. She explained all the wines in details and ensured we had a pleasant time!

We visited 7 bodegas in total while in the Mendoza wine region; this place stood out as our top visit. Beautiful grounds, gorgeous tasting area, fun hand-crafted production area that allowed for tours, and a friendly english-speaking guide. But the wine! The wine was fantastic, top notch, and worth the high price (relative to other wineries in the area.) I can't say this enough - you get what you pay for, and then some. If you only visit one, make it Viña Cobos.

Yelp
This place is all about wine - no restaurant, no real shop to buy. They are serious snd knowledgeable about wine and their wines of course! We went for a tasting and were treated amazingly well! We saw the sorting, pressing, fermentation, barrels etc. Paul and Martina were very good hosts and eager to share information. The location can be hard to find off Rt 7 with no name on the property so follow Google Maps and when you arrive at the guard house outside the two long concrete buildings ask if you are at Viña Cobos to be sure! The Bramare 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon ($AR 690) is awesome as is the Bramare 2016 Marchiori Estate Malbec ($AR 1570) both good....
