Always. I mean, ALWAYS pay attention to the cashiers, especially the young girls during checkout, and ALWAYS check your receipt before leaving because they would double or triple scan one item, especially the veggies so count how many veggies you have prior to checkout. That's how they make hustle money. Cheat. Cheat. Cheat. One-time mistake, ok, I understand. But too many times where the young girls always double or triple charged me on the veggies and charged me on my own bags that I brought from home👎 and the bag is not 10cents, it's 15cents per bag. I never really check my receipt until I get home, and by the time I get home, I don't feel like driving back to the store to ask for a refund or confront them. I would say this store likes to rip off people by using this kind of tactic? LAWV KHUJ HEEV! Ua cas es ua lag luam tsis ua kom ncaj ncees li? Papaya salad here is delicious. Fresh veggies are hit or miss. A little crowded, especially at the veggies aisle. Sometimes, when you go during busy hours, you won't be able to push shopping carts through. You gotta squeeze through people. The workers are not so much professional, lol. They talk shit like they're in their own kitchen. My husband and I always look at each other and just laugh silently when we hear them talk (gossiping). Overall, it was a great store where you can grab and go. I just hated the cheating tactic the girls used. Edit: since I can't respond under the owner's post. To the owner, I am responding to your claim that my review constitutes "business defamation." Let me be clear: my review is an honest account of my direct experience at your establishment. I held off on posting this review for a long time because I couldn't find my receipts. However, after recovering data from my old phone, I found pictures of the receipt from my visit where I was incorrectly charged for a plastic bag that I brought from home. This was a factual transaction that occurred. My frustration stems not just from this single incident, but from a pattern of similar issues I've personally experienced on multiple occasions. As a consumer, I have every right to share my genuine experience. Dismissing valid customer feedback as "defamation" is concerning and does not address the underlying issues. I encourage you to view customer reviews, including mine, as valuable feedback to train your staff and improve your business operations. I have always aimed to support fellow Hmong businesses, but experiences like this make it incredibly difficult to continue doing so with confidence.

Some items are bought at Sam's Club and marked up here. Produce and meat aisle are very limited. Layout of store was very hard to navigate and some aisles are just so small. Can't imagine coming here if it's crowded. There are hot food items but they seem to sitting out for some time so I didn't grab any. The only plus is their made to order papaya salad which was very good and authentic, although a bit priceier than other spots.

Google
Nice store to shop. They have the "Asian" essentials. Their "hot food" prices went up a little bit, but we're a little tired of eating it for now. Perhaps, we'll pick up later in the future. The veggies are hit or miss; however, great prices! - Back for their "Hot Food" section...picked up the Angel Wings & Spick Pork Larb with Red/Brown sticky rice...yuMm!... - Back again for their "hot food" items. This time, we picked up the Angel Wings again and the combo meal with the pork belly & pork sausage. 👍

Google
It's a nice place to buy some of your groceries and if you want food on the spot you can also buy it here too. The food is not as hot but it's good enough to eat.

Google
It's a nice place for fresh vegetables, meat and house whole items. Also hot food is sold too.

Why wait for New Years when you can have it NOW!!!! Best papaya salad ever.. thank you to the ladies in the back making it, your hard work was delicious.😋

My mom bought 3 chickens from the poultry the fridge is broken, the chicken smells bad like expired stale cereal. Parents cooked it already then hour later the garage smells the soup smells bad she poured it away the sink. Kept the chicken meat Bec family is hungry. 5/10/24. Barely have durians. No fresh durians. No Mangosteen. No lychees. Red dragonfruit drink in fridge is good. Produce vegetables is cheaper per lbs at other stores on Stockton Blvd, foods co, rancho San Miguel. 2.99 lb or less fresh green Thai birds eye chili at Indian stores like cash n carry , Taj supermarket. Needs to do raffle every month. Should have a survey e gift card. Should do every 10 receipt get any 10$ item free. No alcohol. No durian drinks. They literally have dollar tree items dish soap and cleaners and selling them triple the price. Lots of food from Thailand! Should do price match policy

I like their papaya here and the variety of fresh veggies that are delivered almost every morning. Their hot food is good too. But I wished they had a fresh navam station.

Yelp
Go to Vinai for their papaya salad! You can find it on the right side of the store when you enter. They make it right in front of you, so you know what goes in and how fresh it is. I went in on a Friday afternoon and it was busy inside. I thought there wouldn't be a lot of people because the small parking lot had a good amount of spots left, but there were lines at the cash register. It was pretty clean inside and didn't have much of a funky smell except for when you're near the papaya salad station, which is normal because of the ingredients used. A few people ordered big party trays of the papaya salad because it's that good. The workers in the back were constantly shredding more papaya. There were a few orders ahead of us and only 2 workers mixing it up at the mortar and pestle, so it took about 20 minutes for our bag of papaya salad to be prepared. It was worth the wait because the papaya salad was delicious and portions are great. The lady at the front was friendly and looked like she enjoys making papaya salad. Next time I'll get it with 3 peppers instead of 2 for a more spicy kick.

Yelp
I like to come here for the fresh greens from local farmers. It's not consistent and is seasonal, so it's a nice surprise every time. Sometimes it sucks because they don't have what you want, but if you're open, there's your chance to try something else. Back in the days, the lines are crazy long but lately, the last few times I've been in, the lines are not bad. I like to browse the hot foods section. I used to like the fish but since the prices have gone up, I stopped buying them. If I'm really hungry, I'll grab a sticky rice/protein combo depending on what mood I'm in. You do have to come at the right time for a good variety. I often grab namvam. This time, I simply grabbed and didn't look. To my surprise when I got home, one is three color and the other is only two color. Why? Why would you do this? LOL. Where is quality control? I'd give you a pass if it simply said namvam but when the cup says three color and there's only two color...

Yelp
I come here for the papaya salad and will buy extra little things like snacks and drinks just because. But tell me why I always find hair in my papaya salad and even in the jars of papaya sauce as well?? I know they have had people complain about hair in their papaya salad before so maybe wearing hair nets would be a good idea. Customer service here is fine with me. They are quiet folks who are just trying to run a store and make a living. I don't expect top notch customer service or a welcome. I think everyone can agree that the hot food here is overpriced, but occasionally I'll grab a thing or two and consider it helping out.

Yelp
Come early, when I came around 3pm on a Sunday, the ready to eat foods on the table were gone. Their vegetables look like it came from the Farmers Market style, like from the local farmers. I love the papaya salad. I am Pilipino and it is in my flavor profile. They used bagoong na isda. This is by far the best papaya salad that I have ever had in my life. It really stinks so it is not for the western people who are not used to that fishy smell. I asked for a medium or mild heat, I don't remember but it was so spicy but it was okay as long as I eat it with plenty of white rice. I want to come back early another time to get it again also to see what else they have but I live over one hour away. I will definitely come back just for that papaya salad.

Yelp
Come on on Wednesday for the most restocking and lots of fresh veggies. Cheap and fresh! Excellent customer service and delicious Lao papaya salad and corn! Love this small supermarket so much! I hope they gain more support from the locals
google avatar

Yelp
Their papaya is amazing and they have. Wide variety of greens especially known for the Asian community.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in town, I make a stop here for their Papaya Salad and prepackaged food.

Yelp
Don't bother calling, they will hang up on you. Much Poor customer service. Such disappointing. Lol

Yelp
Does anyone know the name of the Box of Breakfast sausage that vinai sales.I want to order some. Thank You

Yelp
If you have a craving for Papaya Salad, this is the BEST PLACE. We've become a true fan of their consistently perfect papaya salad. We ask for one chili in each bag and the bags are $10 each. I still can't believe this place offers Papaya Salad like this. They also have party trays for $55. It's a crowd pleaser for those who enjoy spicy food! The produce is also great. Prices are better than 99Ranch. I made a trip the day before and realized that their cans and spices are surprisingly at a better deal here than other markets.
google avatar

Yelp
The best papaya salad in Sacramento! You can call for pick up (what I did) and picked it up right away. The store is huge so even if you don't get a phone order in; it is a grocery store and you can shop around for anything. Also, if you get there early enough you may be able to get some hot foods to go as well!

Namthi N.

Yelp
I mainly go here for their fish and sticky rice in the hot food section. It's my favorite. I didn't like it at first but it's an acquired taste. Now I can eat everything, the whole fish plus the herbs, except for bones of course. They only make a limited amount for the day. So if they run out then you have to wait for the next day.

Yelp
Vinai Wholesale is a Hmong market catering to Sacramento's Hmong/Lao community. I love going to markets like these because I tend to find Thai products that I wouldn't find at other Asian grocery stores like Shun Fat/SF. I went in on a Sunday morning and found: - Thopezay, a Mien style bean paste. Never seen this anywhere else! - Thai boat noodle soup pastes - BIG bags of Thai "nam phrik", or roasted chili pastes - Healthy Boy Sweet and Sour plum sauce. This is pretty rare. Usually eaten with "Hoy Jor" or Teochew-Thai shrimp dumplings wrapped with bean curd skin - Lots of varieties of sticky rice and jasmine rice - Sticky rice baskets, Zebra stainless steel spoons - All of the produce is wrapped in bags, which is good for COVID-19 measures, but you can't see how fresh the veggies are due to condensation - Some prepared food, which looked just alright It's a great community market. I've been meaning to come here for some time to check things out, and I have to say it was a lot smaller than what I though it would be!

Smiley L.

Yelp
Phone/ customers service is horrible. The papaya salad was never how I requested, but sweet taste.
google avatar

Jeff T.

Yelp
Love the place. It has all the fresh vegetables and fruits, a variety of rice brands, desets, as well as the Asian cookwares and anything you need to cook really good Asian food. They have Papaya Salad here as well. Definitely, a place for revisit again.

May L.

Yelp
Bought a bag of pomegranates and all but 2 were rotten to the core. Called store several times but got no answer. This is not the first time, should have done something about the rotten fruits and over-charges but it's too far to drive there. No customer service at all! Will need to find another store to buy my veggies!
google avatar

Charles F.

Yelp
Pronounced "vee-nigh" instead of "vee-nay," I learned. Parking lot isn't exactly great for getting in and out of but the customer service has been solid, and their food selections are good, considering they carry a plethora of Asian goods. Among those are heated hmong sausage packs at about $8-9/pack, kapoon noodle bowls without the broth costing about $6.50 per pack, pho beef powder for pho broth, herbs, frozen goods, antibacterial wipes, masks, and so on. They accept card so that's a plus.

Yelp
A friend of mine told me about this hidden gem! It's a FANTASTIC little grocery store. It an efficient size. Being compared to SF Market around the corner makes it look tiny!! This is a pretty cool store. They sell a very nice variety of Asian rice. SCORE!! They also sell your normal Asian market stuff. For example: Veggies, meats ( frozen and fresh ), canned goods, spices, soup by the cases, candy/cookies, water, to kitchen stuff! I wish I knew this was here sooner! Now...for the REAL reason I came here! I was at a food truck and had an Asian sausage! It was delicious. ( Every bite was bursts of flavor: lemon grass, garlic, hot peppers, ginger, etc ). My buddy told they sold them here! Lord behold...I found it!! Yippee!! Anyhow...I'll be back to scope out more treasures soon!! The cashier that helped me out was super nice and helpful!!

John C.

Yelp
Double check your receipt and prices on products, they double charged me on items and marking up prices differently at register that are clearly labeled on bagged items
google avatar

Ann L.

Yelp
I love this place! It has your basic kitchen essentials, but my main complaint would be the inconsistent veggies. I would show up early in the morning so I could get dips on the veggies, but only to find out that there's a limited amount of veggies and variety. Darn! Other than that, their have great services. The meat guy is super efficient and the ladies at the papaya stands rock. I love their papaya. Oh, yeah. The bathroom is pretty clean, but the motion sensor turns off every minute or so. Better watch out for the dark!
google avatar

Yelp
As a regular patron of this store for years, I'm sad to say I will avoid shopping here for the foreseeable future. I can't justify taking my money to the cashiers, who don't greet me, give me one word answers, and are very unhelpful. I had my 6month old baby in a carrier and 3 year old with me and the cashier and her assistant that bagged my groceries didn't help me load a single bag into my cart. Why would I take my money here to my fellow Hmong when I can take it to any other Asian store where their cashiers are courteous enough to load my cart? No thanks, Vinai.
google avatar

Johnny P.

Yelp
Really tasty and fresh papaya salad ready to order. In addition they have their own papaya sauce for sale. That sauce is an amazing touch to any papaya salad you are making at home. It actually feels incomplete when I make it without the sauce. Other than that, they have frozen Hmong and Lao sausages so that's always a win in my book! Support local :)

Melly L.

Yelp
Loved loved this place. Their papaya salad is really good and price is not bad. Their selections of hot ready to eat meals are great! The store is big but not a lot of selections for fresh veggies but if you're looking for hot food, defiantly good grab yourself some!
google avatar

Kristy C.

Yelp
I love coming here for their yummy papaya salad that you order from a little stand inside the market. They also have very yummy pre-packaged meals that I often grab during my lunch breaks.
google avatar

Jack K.

Yelp
Nice little market to pick up stuff. Fruits & Veggies are packed & prices are marked, like $2, $3, etc. doesn't have a extensive selections like big markets, but prices are good. Lots of bread & packed to-go food to choose from. If you go in the morning, those food are still nice & hot cuz they are fresh. Check out it.

May L.

Yelp
I think it's crazy that with so many people who hate going to Vinai, there's soo many others who still support them. They are so unprofessional, disregards any customer service, and will cheat you your money. Some of the rudest Hmong people ever.
google avatar

No H.

Yelp
When I come to the Sac area, I come here for the papaya salad. It's one of the better places and the portions are decent for the price. They will give you noodles with your order if you request it. The store overall is ok. They don't have much of a hot food selection and the fresh produce isn't that great but they carry most asian items like other stores.

Cab B.

Yelp
They Overcharge everything, like for instances their bags that you buy from them is $15cents which i feel is insanely overpriced considering lot of places charges $10cents. Their hot is insanely expensive considering everything itself is rising already but they charge like $3.99-$6.99 for their smaller portion of food which isnt even a lot of food for the price you pay, and $10.99-$14.99 for their larger food which doesnt even have a lot of portion in it. You can literally go down Sf Supermarket and buy your veggies for cheaper, and go to Hou lan Sandwhiches which cost $5-$-6 and you will be way more satisfied. Everything there is expensive.
google avatar

Jou V.

Yelp
My husband and I go here regularly for the hot food, papaya and sometimes chicken and sausages. We love the papaya here, but it has to be made by a certain lady to taste good. We've tried from the other ladies and their nyabs and they are usually plain, but when that one specific lady makes it, it's so good. So, our plan is to just get papaya when she's there making it. Their hot food however is usually on spot. I get those when I'm lazy to cook. Lol, but if you want fresh ones then I recommend going in the mornings. I do feel that some of their stuff are over priced so other necessities that I can get from other places, I would not buy from here. I do like how they have fresh meat coming in everyday. One thing I'd suggest is that when the younger kids are working to be more friendly at the register. It seems like they're forced to work at times so their attitudes shows. Sorry, but it's noticeable!
google avatar

Ryan T.

Yelp
Good spot for some fresh papaya salad. During the season Vinai sells the small green mangos just a couple good things from here. Customer service isn't that great and the store isn't very clean and sanitary.
google avatar

Annie X.

Yelp
I use to go here a few times and must i say they are so rude. They do not acknowledge that they have a customer right there waiting to order something. I'm done with them, not ever going back there, not giving them any of my money. Oh ...and their papaya salad isn't so great. The taste is off...fishy and sweet..yuck! I really want to give them zero stars.!
google avatar

Linda H.

Yelp
Awesome place and great selection of vegetables. Most items are at fair prices and not to mention, their papaya salad is bomb! My go to place when I'm in the area and have not gone elsewhere since. Their customer service improved since they opened (obviously everyone starts off rough).

Mr B.

Yelp
No Asian store beats Vinai for their fresh farmer's fruits vegetables. They don't pack their store full of manufactured produce like all others stores. Their support for local farmers really show how much they cherish the community. They know about to nurture their customers health and vitality with healthy food and products that feed our families well. They usually always go over and beyond, making time and giving as much discounts as possible when purchasing bulk items, and are happy for any other considerations customers may have. I really appreciate the positive spirit that revolves in the store when I'm there because they really give you the space for it to be your store! Just love their products, love the Thailand products and authenticity the store brings to the community. Enjoy all the compact seasonal food that's always stalked and renewed everyday!

Yien S.

Yelp
I don't even want to give them a star but I have no choice. So I bought their papaya salad sauce for $18.99 in the container and it wasn't in a bigger bag, so its broken so I went to ask for a replacement and they said " since it was out of their store" they can't replace it for me and I couldn't even get my money back. And I always spend over $200 there every time. I guess I'm not coming back here anymore.
google avatar

Nancy X.

Yelp
This store is good. But just the other day I bought green mustard and there was a fly inside!!!! So make sure to check before u buy
google avatar

nancy s.

Yelp
Great papaya salad and fresh vegetables. They have vegetables that other Asian supermarkets don't have. You do have to go early to get the best veggies, since that's when they stock up. Not the best service, but hey, we get what we pay for.

Red X.

Yelp
This is my one stop every time I drive through Sacramento, this place could do better by hiring more cashiers. No one likes to wait 20 minutes in line just to pay for their merchandise. On top of that, there was no cart available
google avatar

Nancy C.

Yelp
This is a Hmong grocery store and just opened earlier this year. They have an assortment of Asian Produce, Meat selection and prepackaged Hmong hot foods to go! They also have a papaya station for only $5. I would totally come here again, the people are friendly and you can find all your must have Asian products here!

Jim K.

Yelp
Horrible customer service!I leave it that!! If that doesn't say enough then go and experience for yourself!!! Lmfao!!!!
google avatar

Kae S.

Yelp
All I can say is... HANDS DOWN THE BEST PAPAYA SALAD IN TOWN! Their papaya is delicious and comes with carrots and green beans (by request). Geeeeez! I have cravings for this in the middle of the night. I also have not tried anything else in their store, but it looks like they have a lot of other things: banh mi sandwiches, hot food, donuts, fresh greens, freshly made kapiak noodles, etc. My only recommendation is to try their papaya out! $5 and you get a big amount!
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
This is a nice little mom and pop shop. They have a hot food section, which isn't really hot, but I enjoy the variety. The papaya salad is really tasty here. They put green beans in theirs. There are also fresh vegetables here for crazy cheap, although most of it isn't really your standard american vegetables. There's a section that sells traditional hmong clothes and there's a section that sells shoes. It's kind of random, but I don't mind.
google avatar

Sophie L.

Yelp
Hi! My parents come here very often and I don't. However, every time we come, they always manage to purchase already-made-food that are expired. Of course, we wouldn't notice until we get home and actually taste them. This hasn't happened once but about three times already and every time I tell them, they always apologize and say that it won't happen again. And it happens again. Instead of telling me that it won't happen again, it would be really nice if they actually just checked their goods and get rid of the ones that have already expired.
google avatar

Amy H.

Yelp
Sorry for the low review but this is just based on my two recent experience. I live in the Bay Area and sometimes visits my family in Sac. I've never been to this store and during my first two visits...Why is that when I try to get papaya salad at this store, I have no luck?! Twice. It's frustrating. There's always a "closed sign or no papaya sign" at the papaya window. Ugh. I always end up at the video store afterwards and get their papaya salad. Which is good too. At least you know you will get papaya salad at the video store. Here at Vinai, you never know. It's a hit or miss. Part of my visit to Sac was to get some papaya salad and bring it home to my husband. Would like to get some papaya salad here one day if I'm lucky.
google avatar

Mick S.

Yelp
I came in to buy their papaya salad. The younger girl who was making the papaya seem like she was unhappy being there and it's only noon. Papaya salad was just "ok", not bad. I would perfer the older lady (taller) who made it last time. The only thing I don't like that they add other veggies to the salad to use less of the papaya. You are paying mainly for PAPAYA. For those who likes string beans, carrots, and thai eggplants added, then good for you, but I don't. It's overwhelming with all the raw taste of the veggies in your mouth.

Tou X.

Yelp
The location is adequate and parking will not be a problem; although, you can only enter the parking lot from one side of the street as the location is located on a curve with a cement median. I usually come here to buy vegetables and can drinks. The vegetables are fresh and brought in daily. You just need to make sure to beat the old Hmong ladies to the freshest of the fresh in the morning. They are only 1 dollar for a bunch and you will be supporting local Hmong farmers with your money. I don't buy meat from here because they do not look fresh. Also, their display case looks like it does not have cold air and they do not have ice to keep the meat fresh. The meat choices are minimal. The freezer do have a good amount of frozen whole chicken, Hmong sausage, lamb meat, and fish. I get the feeling the owners are trying to eliminate waste by not having a good display of fresh meat in their for sale case like the Chinese stores. My wife and I buy hot food and papaya salad occasionally. The hot food is a little bit pricey, but will be enough for two adults. The papaya salad can be a hit or miss. The older stockier lady generally makes it best. If she is not there, you should not buy it. I give it four stars because it is the biggest Hmong store in town and they have more selections compare to other Hmong stores. Their $1.00 vegetables are a killer. Besides that, I don't usually buy anything else from here.

Panyia V.

Yelp
They let little kids work at the cashier. One time I left with the item not put in my bag but was charged for it. Yes it's true their hot food spoiled.
google avatar

Toua H.

Yelp
Probably the best place to get real Hmong food. Other Hmong stores do not have the varieties this place has. Great service and great items for sale. Fresh vegetables daily and delicious Hmong chicken. Great selection of Hmong sausages as well! I will definitely go to this place even though there is another Hmong store that is around the corner from my place.

Yelp
You can get the most fresh vegetables daily that come straight from the garden, most are free of pesticides and organic although there's no perfect natural vegetables nowadays. But compare to elsewhere, Vinai has very trust worthy farmers who grow sustainable vegetables. Vinai is very customer friendly and would go over and beyond to help you in what you need. They have wholesale prices at bulk if you buy large quantity. What I like best about Vinai is there community. Their are so much connections to the Hmong community as you can get so much information from the owners. People go as far as voluntarily setting vendor booths to share herbs, traditional medicine, as well as other small business advertisements. The owners always have a smile on their face and welcomes everyone wholeheartedly every single day.
