11 Homes Transformed Into Amazing Mosaics

"Tucked away in the otherwise quaint Italian town of Guagnano is an eye-popping phantasmagoria of tile art and sculpture known as Vincent City.  Standing in stark contrast to the surrounding traditionalism of Guagnano, the private home known as “Vincent City” is the living and working space of noted painter and eccentric, Vincent Brunetti. Wanting his home to be an outward expression of his colorful inner world, the estate is a tightly packed phantasmagoria of kitsch, with every wall, corner, and blank space filled with recycled tile mosaics or bizarre ephemera. When the eye-catching structure was created, local authorities, preferring the staid architectural style of the rest of the village, tried to put a stop to the home’s decorations, but eventually the dauntless artist was able to convince them to let him stay in the fashion he worked so hard to create.     While Brunetti is the name most associated with Vincent City, the ubiquitous tile mosaics covering nearly every surface are actually the work of Italian artist Orodè Deoro who lived on site for five years, meticulously crafting the design of each piece adorning the interior and exterior of the home. Deoro’s work is what gives the home its unique look and feel, heralding the artistic minds within. The home’s countless mosaics act as a museum to Deoro’s art as well as his magnum opus. While Vincent City is a private residence, visitors arriving at a reasonable hour have been known to be given tours of the wild kitsch museum, getting to experience a taste of the lives and work of two of Italy’s bold artistic minds." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Well if you like art and extrovert decorations it's brilliant. We loved it, met the man himself. An awesome experience. You need to go slowly and have eyes everywhere or you will miss something

Far out - too far out for me I’m afraid… But if you happen to be nearby, and are up for something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT then you might want to give it a try. And it’s free ;-). Vincent only speaks Italian and was playing a loud technobeat during our visit so we didn’t really connect so to say ;-). But he seemed to interact very friendly with some Italian visitors.

The correct location in google maps is : 9WVR+96 Guagnano, Lecce, Itália ( copy/paste in Gmaps) It’s the artist’s house, entrance is free. You can park you car inside. Difficult for handicapped people to see the upper floors (stairs, no ramps) Dogs are allowed (no signs) Vincent is an eclectic artist and opens his space to be in contact with people. Go with free spirit and open mind. In the several rooms of the house you can see mix of tiles composing a diversity of themes - most around religious ones. For example what seems a small chapel has the Liberty statue… Bathroom, kitchen etc, all with tiles mosaics and paintings.Have fun seeing he details. For example the toilets parts transformed as seats or flower pots. In the back some graffiti. In the atelier you can have contact with the artist performing painting ! Worth the visit to complete the Baroque style of the region !

Great experience. It is a museum about masterpieces of Vincent. In addition it is possible to meet and talk with the Maestro. It is an oasi among the wide vineyard of Negramaro countryside. Artistically, it is too much varoius, you cannot say he belongs to one style or specif period. The exposition should be "cleaned" from some object that are not artistic at all. It is a sort of a notebook of 40 years of life and carries, and obviously you can meet the best days and worst days. I gave 5stars,because the access it is free, so if you don't like you pay zero, nowdays in a speculative society ,where we live, it is a noble choice.

Extraordinary place, splendid dream after 30 years' one man work comes true. Just amazing! The people who help there showed us around with kindness. They have a lot of animals including new born cats. What a lovely place. I only hope local government can give them enough support to make this art work continue. What a pity if this does not further develop. I found some reviews complaining about can not buy art piece with ATM. Indeed this is a pity. Still made my donation and apparently this is the only way he can continue financially support the work since all visits are free.
