Now I know why this place is always packed! You can try the wine before you buy a glass, the staff is great, and the room is cozy.
I hadn't had dinner yet so a charcuterie plate was in order at 7pm. I got the mix (145 dkk) as well as some delicious sourdough bread, and for 20 dkk the bread basket is generously heaped. The handsome guy behind the counter did warn us that it would take some time (I think they were out of one of the ingredients), and gave us the bread first to tide us over. Unfortunately they do not have any butter, only olive oil. I had a citrusy Riesling (60 dkk) which was squirted into the glass via something that resembled a soda gun. Although the wine looked cloudy and wild at first, it settled down and seemed like a very normal Riesling. Fascinating!
When the snack board eventually arrived, Handsome Guy apologized again and pointed out the selection for us. Comte, Tomme de Savoie, Machego, quince paste, dijonnaise, cornichons, two types of salami, and serrano. I am not sure if it was partly to make amends for the wait, but the serving seemed quite generous for the price. Everything was great, although if I were to put a similar plate together, I would keep all the cheeses from the same country or the same animal. But I am a fan of all three cheeses so it is not a big complaint. (:
Three of us came here to catch up and have some serious girl talk, but the acoustics definitely do not lend well to such. It gets quite loud in here even though your fellow patrons are not shouting, and it gets even worse if the place is crowded, which it definitely will be at some point in the evening! Have fun here but take your deep conversation over to Vinskabet. Like them, Vinhanen also has some natural wines so I bought a bottle of Merlot for fellow Yelper Bri R. who cannot tolerate sulfites. It only cost about 69 dkk and 7 dkk for pant on the cute bottle, which you can bring back for a return.
Although the price is right and the atmosphere and snacks are great, why not the full 5 stars? Well.. honestly the wine was not great. My friends weren't too keen either. It wasn't undrinkable, just unmemorable. Here I was relieved that you can try before you buy, as I got a mouthful of "mountainous" rosé that was overly minerally. You do get what you pay for. Don't expect any epiphanies here, but a good time with cheap wine and good friends.
