My husband and I visited Vinny Toronto for my birthday on Sunday, Oct 12th after hearing great things on social media, and what better occasion to try a new spot than your birthday!
The highlights:
-We were warmly greeted at the door and seated right away with no wait time. Our corner booth was lovely and cozy (table 23 as per the bill)
-The ambience and decor were beautiful, chic, and elegant.
-The photo booth was such a fun and thoughtful touch.
-The food was good, not exceptional but enjoyable.
We arrived around 6:30 PM, made the happy hour, and ordered an Old Fashioned, an Espresso Martini, and oysters from the happy hour menu. We later got a bottle of champagne, salmon for me, chicken for my husband, and calamari as an appetizer.
The complimentary birthday cake with candles was a very sweet gesture.
However, what truly defines a dining experience beyond the food and ambience is the service, and that’s where things fell short for us.
After being seated, we were attended by someone (not sure if they were a server, manager, or owner) who never introduced themselves. Although polite, the interaction felt cold and impersonal. It may seem minor, but for an occasion like a birthday, a little attentiveness and friendliness can go a long way.
We spent $222.61 plus tips in total, and for that price point, along with the setting and concept, I had expected a more memorable and personable experience.
Since Vinny Toronto is a new establishment, I would not want to go below 4 stars, as there were definitely things that stood out. The decor, and overall vibe were commendable with good food. However, for me, service matters most in creating a pleasurable dining experience, and unfortunately, this visit felt a bit too transactional.
Would I return? Probably not, but I do hope to see this place refine its service approach because it truly has potential to be great.
