The hotel is situated on top of the high hill, the road leading to it is very narrow and winding ,so you've to be very carefool when driving. If you want go to town you have to drive 12-14 minutes ,or walk down 20 minutes steep winding path.To go back from the city you have two options ,first walk up by the 30-40 minutes the steep hill or take taxi for 15 €. We made the reservation for double room with garden view, but we 've got a room overlooking the roof covered with gravel and wilted bushes. The garden surrounding the hotel was neglected. The hotel offers basic breakfast and on the first day our stay they have run out of black tea and the person taking care of breakfast buffet - stated "That there will be no black tea, because they have run out of it",and there was no black tea for our whole stay .There is no restaurant in the hotel,so you've to dine in town every evening. The whole place looks neglected and uncared for.The rooms are not soundproof ,so you could hear other guests .The only pro is car parking free of charge.

Basically you are paying for the beautiful view. The rest is a very basic hotel in need of a good freshening up: flimsy old towels, sad amenities, old bathroom tiles, no kettle no coffee no fridge, a small TV positioned so that you cannot possibly watch from the bed but only from the very uncomfortable armchairs. And a very sad breakfast too...

This hotel is on a hill overlooking Trier. With a GPS it was not hard to find. The rooms are very large. They are a little dated, but the bed was really comfortable. The host, a gentleman in his 80's was congenial, and spoke very good English. We stayed here because it was so highly rated by Rick Steves. We were a little disappointed in the breakfast as it was not cooked to order as Rick has stated. But t was fine, typical German breakfast. There is an elevator. Beautiful views of the town.

We came across this hotel by pure chance and can't believe how lucky we were. The hotel is perfectly located in the quiet hilltop woods with a panoramic view of Trier. The city is just a short 20 minutes walk down the hill. Our room had a balcony with chairs and a table where we could sit and sip our wine. The bed was very comfortable and the whole room was nice and clean. We slept with the windows open and the only noise we heard was from the birds singing in the morning. The owners have amassed an incredible collection of antiques and curiosities over the years which adorn not just the common areas but the rooms as well. The hosts are very friendly and helpful and laid out a great breakfast in the morning. This is a place we will definitely return to.

I cannot imagine a better hotel to enjoy Trier. The breakfasts are spectacular & Helmut, the host, is a real marvel. Can't rave enough. Go ahead & book a room without hesitation. Great access to the city (we rented bikes, but it is a pleasure walking through the woods surrounding the hotel. Loved it. (This is written by a guy who doesn't normally like staying in hotels…)

A great hotel with lots of character; clean, well-appointed rooms; a courteous staff; and a quaint restaurant with an outstanding breakfast. The views of Trier from the wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling window (with balcony) are great, and there's a trail down to the city. (The only downside we experienced was on a warm day in June. As the sun sets over the city it shines right into the rooms. The drapes don't do a good job of blocking the consequent heat, and the room was quite uncomfortable until well after sunset. Didn't have that issue on a cloudy November day.) We had family stay here twice and we had a great experience each time.

We were there one night and enjoyed it very much. It is close to the city center, it is quiet, it is beautiful ...from the outside and although it is exceptionally clean, the inside - in spite of being well kept - was clearly 70s chic.... They don't have a restaurant but serve a well stocked breakfast. Wouldn't mind going there again for one night.

We found Petrisberg in our Rick Steve's guide book and it looked like a place we would like. With no reservation we pulled into the beautiful gated drive to find what we thought for sure was a hotel closed for the season. As we're standing in the driveway trying to decide what to do next, here comes this dapper German gentleman who introduces himself as Helmut, the owner. He's open and he has a room for us. Turns out we are the only guests at the hotel! He shows us in and offers to show us the room (we decline because we're sure we'll take the room). He fills out a registration form (by hand, of course) and gives us our old fashioned room key, telling us he'll cook us breakfast whenever we are ready in the morning. (Just us, we had the whole dining room to ourselves the next morning with a delicious, full breakfast.) As he's entertaining us with his charm and tales of growing up in Trier during WWll he suddenly realizes he's late for lunch with his brother, Wolfgang. He hurries out the front door of the his hotel and zooms away on his scooter, leaving us slightly agog and ALL alone in the building. All. Alone. No staff, nothing. It was the coolest, weirdest thing-Something that would never, ever happen in the Bay Area. The hotel room was spotless and charming. He gave us a central room with a full view of the city. We spent some time peeking around the hotel then explored the city for the rest of the day. We ended up bringing snacks and wine back to the room and enjoying the view on the terrace till well after dark. The bed was comfortable and the experience overall was one of the best we've ever had on any vacation, anywhere. Go stay with these gentlemen, it was amazing.
