Went here for dinner to give this place a second try. Seems sometimes they just barely miss the mark. Had a decent dinner so let's get into the details
The pros:
Service was so stellar, I will go back for the service alone. Waitress went above and beyond to help us have an enjoyable experience and was very attentive, super friendly and adaptive without checking in too much and without checking in while our mouths were full ( personal pet peeve ) Our food came out surprisingly quickly and that was great.
We ordered
Brussel sprouts and these were a 10/10 in flavor and the way they were cooked. Absolutely delicious, bacon, candied pecans I believe and what tastes like a lemon balsamic ... broiled to perfection, I can't make them like this at home
The nachos were an Asian inspired chicken nacho that I did not expect to like, however I did like it ... a lot. The light crispy wontons " chips" were a perfect paring with the flavor of the nachos and I'll come back for these. The chicken was so tender and flavorful and complimented the rest of the dish so well. The jalapeño sauce definitely hit the mark 9/10 because we had too many plain chips at the end of it
The CONS :
Ehhhhh the dishes were subpar to be honest.
My steak lacked any sort of flavor at all. I think they may rely on the " cowboy butter " they put on top for flavor, but I'm not a fan or cowboy butter so I scraped the glob off ( it was like a whipped butter dollop on top) and went about it. It was very tough to cut, lacked flavor at all and had a surprising amount of fat I needed to remove , the mashed potatoes they paired with it were meh.... And the " garden salad" was just leafy green lettuce and dressing. no other vegetables included in the " salad " 3/10
We also ordered a tomato based, Cajun chicken , over sausage rice and more tomatoes topped with Cajun shrimp and the shrimp was good. My dinning partner enjoyed the sausage as well, but the dish was too mushy, the consistency was weird and the canned ( stewed) tomatoes added ( is what it tasted like ) were just not to my liking at all. To be honest I didn't think I would like this, as I tend to shy away from Cajun/ tomato based anything, but I couldn't take more than a small taster bite. 2/10 as 75 % of this dish went into the trash when we got home
The tasty apps and excellent service make this place worth a stop, however this is my second time trying this restaurant and the main courses unfortunately seem to miss the mark. I like the feel/ vibe and location of the restaurant, I love the inside, again the service is stellar. I hope they can find main dishes worth the price tag at this place so I can keep coming back, but for now I'll stick to trying their appetizers .
Note to management: please consider adding a rosemary focaccia to the menu, a charcuterie type of app, or more apps, a beet salad, more veggies to your side salad , and cooking a tender flavorful steak because anyone ordering a steak is going to care about both of those points. The apps seem to be your strong suit. Dont take those Brussels off the menu, they are the BEST thing I have tasted at your restaurant and the only reason I gave it another try.
At $140 total for one glass of wine/ two apps, two entrees and tip. I'm expecting a delicious entree cooked to perfection. You could use a little extra attention in this area.
We still tipped 20% because the service was good and it's not the waitresses fault. Unless my food is completely wrong I try to never send it back, but I did feed it to the dog when I got home.
The jist of it ... this place is worth the stop for the atmosphere, service, apps, wine and dessert ( last time it was lovely ) ... but for now skip the entrees until they get it right.
I really wish restaurants would offer a " sampler entree" to taste all the entrees and see what you like. There may be entrees on there that are delicious but I haven't found one yet .
