Vira Potzi

We got the shrimp pasta and the tuna fillet. Food was great but the service was INCREDIBLY SLOW. The waiters are so chill it’s very annoying. 15 minutes for someone to attend to us, and then another 15 to take our order. We had a toddler and it was extremely hot so you can imagine how bad that was. We were looking forward to the free desert after but only got fruits, which was still good. The restaurant is by the pierre and I was lucky to see a turtle right next to me!

We stumbled upon Vira Potzi by chance and left extremely satisfied! Vira Potzi is located in a very beautiful spot, next to the fort with stunning views of the port. The food was delicious and fresh and we paired it with their own wine which was refreshing. We also received complimentary desert and fruit (as is customary in Crete) which were just as excellent! Thomas, our waiter, was very friendly and gave us good tips, not only for the food but also for places to explore nearby. I wish I had more photos to share but the dishes were so tempting that we could not resist! P.S. If you try just one thing here, it has to be the day’s fish carpaccio — it is SO worth it.

We spent every Friday here during our 4-week stay in Ierapetra I’d say carpaccio from fish is the best we ever tried. Nice pairing with local Malvasia Also service is perfect, we felt as a very welcomed guests every time. And nice view!

Short version: overated and overpriced. Nice atmosphere like all other tavernas on the sea side. The taverna tries to offer a „sophisticated“ flavor as opposed to the traditional Greek style that I appreciate and makes Greece special. Some of the dishes were nice I.e. the salad and saganaki, the rest was miserable especially the fried calamari and seabream. The prices are high especially the seam bream is overpriced.

Wonderful dinner and amazing service! Would recommend to anyone wanting great food at the water front.

I came in for lunch by chance as it has great views of fortress and across the coast of the mountains. I opted for the fried fish and although it was on its own it was very filling as it was a large portion. Before they brought me out a starter of some bread and some sauce which was also excellent
