"See Cotopaxi from a (Safe) Distance The most iconic views of Quito feature the snow-covered peak of Cotopaxi in the background. Though a hike to its crater is on many visitors' wish list, its recent spurt of activity may deem it too unsafe for the next few months. But there’s no need to panic. To glimpse the tallest active volcano in the world, head to El Panecillo. Located on its own volcanic terrain, this 656-foot hill towers above the old town and offers the perfect view of Cotopaxi. El Panecillo is also home to the city’s winged virgin. El Virgen de Quito (Quito’s Madonna) stands on a globe, which is covered by a snake with what looks like a crocodile's face. This multi-piece aluminium structure was erected in 1976 and is one of the city’s most popular tourist spots. It’s advisable to take a taxi to El Panecillo at sunrise or sunset for the best shot. Nowadays, police presence is all day, but locals strongly warn against walking to the hill."

The Virgin of the Panecillo is a great place to visit. Honestly, I initially wasn’t sure about going. I am not really into religious monuments. But it was on our guided tour and in reality it’s a very cool statue. The subject is the Woman of the Apocalypse which is a bit different the Virgin Mary. It makes for a much more interesting sculpture including a dragon. The sculpture itself is beautiful. We had the opportunity to see it both during the day and at night. The secondary great feature of a visit to the Virgin is the stunning views of the city. The tour site was not very busy when we got there, and it made for a very pleasant visit.

There's no explanation for this spectacular view. You can go up to the sculpture for $1 and get the best photos. Interesting place to buy souvenirs and food. U can go by walking or take a taxi to make ur life easy, It costs around $4 - $5 to get there, as well u can ask the driver to wait for u and come back to your place ($10-$12)

A really beautiful place to go, absolutely mandatory to visit when visiting Quito, as the view is stunning for only $1, the food shops next to it are also fun to discover the local culture... Attention tough it is mandatory to take a taxi to go to the topn as the streets just below aren't secured for tourists...

If you're visiting Quito then take a drive up and visit the Virgin of the Panecillo. Not only is the view spectacular, but the sculptor itself is stunning. You can also go inside and check out the history of the statue itself. Pro tip: There's an outdoor food section with local dishes and drinks! There's also a bathroom (0.25 cents).

Wonderful views at the bottom of the statue, a tiny museum inside for only a $1. Uber from San Francisco square cost us about $2 one way. And a beautiful restaurant is there as well to hang out with that view.
