Visalam – CGH Earth hotel, Chettinad

We stayed at Visalam during our vacation for two days, and the experience was truly wonderful. The hospitality, ambience, and food were all outstanding and exceeded our expectations. A special mention to Chef Vivekananda, who was extremely kind and thoughtful. We had casually spoken about crab masala the previous night, and he went the extra mile to prepare it specially for us the next day. I must say, it was the best crab masala I have ever tasted. All the food served had authentic Chettinad flavors, tasting just like home-cooked meals—no artificial flavors, no excessive oil, just pure and traditional cuisine done right. Overall, Visalam offers a warm, memorable stay with exceptional food and service. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an authentic and peaceful experience.

Its a quaint place with wonderful folks taking care of you. And people are very courteous. I would especially appreciate the time the chef Rengaranjan took during the cooking class, he was extremely passionate about his lineage and chettinad cuisine. He was extremely particular about the portions, and with every segment of dish prep, I was able to distinguish the segmented aroma of chettinad chicken dish and at the end the amalgamation of flavors were truly delightful to enjoy. Kudos to the management for recruiting such amazing passionate folks in their team. People employed at their hotel are mostly locals and the gentlemen and ladies are all proud of their culture, which is what I was educated with and would have expexted. Wish the best to the team!!!

We had a wonderful stay at Visalam in Karaikudi. From the moment we arrived, the warmth of the staff made all the difference. Mohan at the reception was very helpful. He patiently listened to our plans and guided us in putting together the perfect itinerary.||The dining experience was excellent. Chef Vivekanandan and his team served delicious Chettinad food throughout our stay, and Sathish and Kadir took exceptional care of us at every meal, always attentive and thoughtful. We also enjoyed the kitchen demos, which added a lovely personal touch.||Krithika took us on a guided tour and explained the history of the region in an engaging and clear manner. ||The GM, Manoj, checked in on us often with genuine warmth. Every part of our stay felt thoughtful and personalised.

Visalam CGH is a beautiful property to stay, stayed 2 nights with a group of travellers and was a memorable one. My room was a heritage room with poster bed and balcony, very spacious and very clean and tidy. This particular room has the bed on a height and a small stool is required to step on to the bed, so before booking plz check with reception if you are a senior citizen, have small kids or knee problem. Food was delicious but not sure due to Navrati the dishes we less. My favorite was the filter coffee at the coffee cart, the girl was very attentive to our order and served everyone the perfect drink. Evening walk is a must, as Mr. Shiva has many interesting stories to tell. We girl had an amazing time around the mansion. Cooking classes was very educational and loved the dish made, we all got to try it in the end. Amazing professional staff and will surely visit again. Only downfall was the spa, Massage was not up to the mark for the price.

We had an amazing stay at vishalam. I want to make note of two people specifically who made sure we had the best time, Kritika who took us out for a village tour on cycle and explained to us alot about Kandukathan and Mr. Manoj the GM who made us feel like Vishalam was our home away from home. They have kept the place very true to the Chettinad style architecture and walking through the corridors of Vishalam helps us visualise how people in the older times stayed in such places. Vishalam is a quick walk away from many other chettiyar houses and handloom weaving centers which makes it easy to take a leisurely stroll in the evening to explore the place. They serve amazing chettinad food, I attended the cooking class, I don't know the name of the chef akka who showed the poriyal recipe but I learned some new tips from her and she was very sweet. Another highlight is their amazing pool thats 6'10" feet deep perfect for a morning swim Tamil Nadu always offeres the best hospitality and Chettinad is no less. We would definitely be back here hopefully staying for more days

It is a unique experience staying at Visalam, staying in a restored mansion. The service was excellent with tea making in the mornings, cooking demonstrations, and attentive staff. Our guide, Shiva, was knowledgeable and personable and the pleasant guided walk in the afternoon as well as visits to tile makers and snack makers were very interesting. Being able to meet locals was a great experience. We also had a great meal at a local village restaurant in between seeing inside amazing houses. I highly recommend Visalam.

Great restored mansion. Impeccable rooms/suits with thick brick walls and high ceilings. Feels like living the life of royalty. Kitchen is very unique. They will configure the meal to suit your taste. A short cooking demonstration has got me started on Chettinad cooking.
