Clean, comfortable and an unusual and quirky hostel. A perfectly adequate place to stay for a few nights. Very well positioned right near the port and within very easy walking distance into the town. |Comfortable bed, and the hired bedlinen and towel were good quality.DONT be put off by rather stern outside appearance complete with dirty barbed wire !

I had a great stay with nothing to complain about. I got a bed, a fridge and a toilet. What more do you really need? The room (cell) I had was small, but for just sleeping it did the job. It's an old prison... And within walking distance to everything in Visby.

Visby Fängelse is a big and beautiful hotel. It has a very beautiful view of the oceanfront and the harbor.

Excellent and good priced hostel in Visby. Rooms certainly have a history. Probably the best place to stay for solo travellers on budget. You will have cooking facilities available and fully equipped kitchen.||If you are tall, you will probably bang your head however, as the doors to room and shared toilets certainly could be taller. So hope you dont have anything valuable back there.

This place had so much potential but fell short. Beds were too soft. Rooms till damp. Showers and other communal ateas dirty despite being 3pm when you were allowed to check in. Front door was closed until 3pm so you could not leave your luggage there until your room was ready. Advertise as having free parking but noticed on areival that it was only for 8 spots and they were all taken. So has to pay for parking across the road at 15kr/h, with maximum 24hr parking.|Rooms not isolated enough and we could hear neighbours conversations and snooring etc. The curtains were see through so eoom didn't get dark. Room was also way too small for 2 people. |They could've made this place so much better. It has so much potential.

Initially we were excited at the thought of actually staying in a former prison. Communication and information pre-visit was good, and easy. So it looked really good, and expectations were high.||When reality had sunk in, this turnéd out to be a huge disappointment. The place doesn't seem to have been cleaned for years. When everything is sticky with thick layers of grease dirt and grime, the shared kitchen on the first floor is so dirty, we very reluctantly used it, something is obviously very wrong.|It's sad because this old prison has so much potential, and could have been such a great place to stay.||Wifi was non-existent. ||The funny thing is these things has been mentioned numerous times on previous reviews here, and nothing seems to have been done about it. They just doesn't seem to care. ||It's especially sad because this is a historic building, and it's just not being well maintained. ||We're actually surprised the local health authorities allows it to operate at all. ||We stayed in a cell, which had two beds. It was far too cramped for two beds. Walls were dirty, dead insects, beneath the beds. The shared bathroom/shower was dirty. ||In fact this was a very unpleasant experience, and we definitely would not consider returning. At the prices they're operating, it's far too expensive for what you actually get. || ||

Nice location and interesting building, but small kitchen and not very clean. Stayed with kids, didn’t dare to cook because not clean kitchen. Ok room but very noisy and lot of party going on very late, until 3 am. Not at all good value for money.

Pretty basic for a hostel. Was allocated to a room in a cabin, so the shower/toilet facilities were about 10-20meters away (unsheltered path), shower facilities were pretty bad, was the kind where you had to press and hold for the water to run for a couple of minutes. Linen was not provided but could be rented. Wifi was pretty bad at the cabin areas. No curfew, so there was a group that was laughing and playing music up till 6am. Only plus points were the great service staff, free luggage storage and convenient location!
