I stayed at Viva Fortuna from August 2 to August 9, reportedly the hottest week of the season according to locals. None of the common areas had air conditioning, so the only relief from the intense heat was in the room—and even that came with its own issues. The rooms were outdated, with mold visible around the air conditioning vent and worn wooden furniture.
The dining experience was equally disappointing. The buffet resembled a college cafeteria, serving repetitive variations of the same food daily. The resort’s restaurants offered little improvement, simply adding sauces to buffet items and giving them new names.
The most frustrating aspect of the stay was the water shutting off twice for several hours, leaving guests without the ability to shower, flush toilets, or rinse off sand—during 90-degree heat. On another evening, the electricity went out, and while the generator restored the lights, it couldn’t power the air conditioning units in the rooms. No apology or compensation was offered, yet staff continued to try selling vacation packages. I'm still waiting to receive the 8 day free vacation they promised to email me for sitting through the presentation.
The only highlight was the resort’s location. The beach was stunning and just steps from any room, making it ideal if you could spend all your time outdoors. I do not blame the local management but Wyndham should be ashamed to call this their property.
