We are from Central Europe, and we traveled for an entire day to reach Mexico for this vacation.
Yesterday we finished our stay at Viva Wyndham Maya, and we would like to share our experience.
First of all, we want to sincerely thank all the employees who take exemplary care of the guests. The animation team was incredibly fun and energetic. We truly admired how they dedicated the entire day to entertaining people, organizing activities, and coming up with new competitions every single day. They were always kind and wonderful with the children.
We would also like to highlight the dancers and acrobats who prepared the best hotel shows we have ever experienced. During their rehearsals, they even allowed children to watch and interacted with them in such a kind and friendly way, which was truly special.
Additionally, all the waiters, housekeeping staff, and kitchen employees did an amazing job. Their hard work and positive attitude did not go unnoticed.
That is why it makes us even more disappointed that our departure left such a bitter feeling.
During our stay, I noticed that my wristband was defective and kept opening. Unfortunately, when we arrived late at night, we were not informed at the reception that there is a fine for losing the wristband. When I realized it was opening, I did not consider it a serious issue because I have never experienced a hotel where a wristband must be returned upon departure or you face a penalty.
The reception’s approach early this morning was very disappointing. They refused to consider that two days earlier I had already reported that the wristband was faulty and that waves in the sea had torn it off. We were never informed that without returning the wristband, we would not receive the confirmation paper stating that all payments were settled.
We had no problem paying for the safe for the entire stay, which was also something we had never experienced before. We left tips for the staff and paid $550 for an excursion. So this was not about money, but about principle. The hotel failed to clearly explain the rules, gave us a defective wristband, and then early in the morning, when our bus arrived, they essentially held us hostage by refusing to give us the required confirmation paper. Without that paper, the bus driver would not take us to the airport — even though the transfer had already been paid for.
The bus was ready to leave for the airport without us because the hotel refused to issue the paper unless we paid the wristband penalty.
Another negative point of the hotel was the long waiting times for coffee at Maya Café and for drinks at the bars. It is not acceptable that the bar staffing is so limited that we had to wait up to 30 minutes every day. In our group, we had to take turns standing in line to get drinks for everyone.
Overall, while the staff’s effort and entertainment programs were excellent, the lack of clear communication, poor handling of the wristband issue, and long waiting times significantly affected our final impression of the hotel.
