IMPORTANT: The hostel offers a free drink in exchange for a positive review, so some of the positive reviews may be biased.
Based on our experience, more than 50% of the people staying long-term at the hostel appeared to be staff members, mainly Canadian and French. They seemed to occupy rooms and use lockers intended for paying guests. In our experience, their attitude often felt unwelcoming, particularly toward us as Mexican/Latino guests.
During our stay, we also had an unpleasant interaction at reception. A very young French staff member was dismissive, and when giving us our change, she placed/threw it abruptly instead of handing it to us, which felt disrespectful and unprofessional.
In terms of cleanliness, the hostel was in poor condition during our stay.
The bathrooms were dirty, the showers barely worked, there was no hot water (only cold), and there was visible mold, making showering uncomfortable. Soap was often missing in both the kitchen and the toilets. The rooms felt dirty, had unpleasant odors, and did not seem well maintained.
The overall atmosphere felt off. The facilities and activities did not seem well designed to naturally encourage social interaction, although it was still possible to meet people with effort.
The only clear positive was the location near swimmable beaches. If this is not your main priority, I would recommend considering other options.
