VJ's Drive Inn

For a long time, I heard everyone talking about VJ’s burgers, so I finally gave it a try. I was surprised by the taste! I tried their special burger and really liked it but the French fries were disappointment. The place isn’t exactly big on hygiene, which might be a turn-off for some, but if you’re there for the flavor, it’s definitely worth a try. They now accept credit cards.

People recommended this online so I came here to try the VJ’s special. To be honest, I’m a bit disappointed. The flavor is good, but the texture is lacking. The buns are a bit too soft and easy to break. The patties break easily as well. I like five guys burgers better. They accept cash, debit card and visa. They have outdoor dining area and plenty of parking spaces.

It’s this peppery, greasy, delicious mess that’s going to get all over your hands, your shirt, probably your pants, and you’re not going to care because it’s the experience, right? You can feel that 1950s drive-in nostalgia pouring out of every bite. It’s good – don’t get me wrong – but I’ve had better. The patty is solid, juicy enough, but this isn’t going to blow your mind if you’re coming from a food scene like Montreal or New York. We’re talking more about the memory than the masterpiece. Fries? Classic. Big, hot, crispy, and perfect for dunking in the mountain of chili they throw at you. Again, nothing earth-shattering, but it checks the box for what you want alongside that burger. Now, let’s talk atmosphere. You’ve got John Calogeris running the joint like a neighborhood legend. Dude’s always rocking his bandana, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to hear some of his stories. It’s this down-to-earth, almost dive-y feel that makes VJ’s something special. You come here, not just for the food but for the Winnipeg-ness of it all – the history, the grit, the “we’ve been doing this forever and we’re not changing” attitude. You can’t replicate that. You don’t come here for five-star dining – you come here because VJ’s is an institution. It's got a vibe that you just don’t get at some fancy, trendy burger spot. But – and this is a big but – if we’re strictly talking food, there are places in the city that are going to give you a better burger. Objectively speaking, this isn’t the best burger in Winnipeg. But it is an essential stop, especially if you’re just visiting. You’re not going to regret it, you’ll just need to adjust those expectations. VJ’s is the guilty pleasure, the perfect pit stop after hitting The Forks. You’re full, you’re happy, you’re a little greasy – and in the end, that’s exactly the point.

This place has been on my radar for sometime. With the sun shinning, it was a beautiful day to explore Winnipeg. And what better way to top it off then with a stop at this iconic burger joint. I opted for the VJ special and a side of fries. UPDATE: They accept Visa and debit! The burger can be tastefully messy, but it is still a wonderful experience. The copious amount of fries were golden and crispy. Judging from the size of the burger and the fries, you could certainly share this. If you aren’t into sharing your burger, definitely share the fries.

I might have caught them on a bad day, but my experience was disappointing. I was excited about trying their food since the place is, apparently, a Winnipeg classic. However, the burger lacked flavor, with no kick from the sauce and a bland patty. While the fries were crispy, they were unfortunately unsalted. Overall, it was a very poor dining experience.

The most delicious hot dogs in the city of all I have tried. And the size of the fries portion is always great . Here you will not stay hungry! I also want to note the friendly team , these guys are always on the positive vibe.

Food was great, portions are huge. Burger got soggy fast but still tasted good, gravy is a little bland. Staff was not friendly, no smiles or greetings to the customers. The strawberry milkshake is perfection.
