We booked this hotel, last minute, based on reviews, which is why I’m writing this - so that others don’t make the mistake we made. ||||We booked two ‘suites’ because there were no other rooms listed as available (though the hotel seemed empty). They didn’t conform to our understanding of the term ‘suite’, being two not very large rooms with an interconnecting balcony. Not sitting areas, nothing additional to the usual hotel room set-up. The balcony fronted onto a busy street and was divided into two by a few potted plants. The suites were expensive - I feel for anyone who booked only one of them, decided to enjoy the balcony, only to find they were sharing it with strangers and traffic noise. ||||The hotel itself had obviously been originally designed with flair and consideration. What it is now is far from what I imagine was originally conceived of. There was no sign of any active management, the staff seemed depressed (apart from the very cheery man who made up the beds). This impacted very significantly on cleanliness and maintenance (basically, there seemed none of either).||||The good:||||*The beds were very comfortable, unlike many of the rather hard-style mattresses which seems to be the Italian style.||||*The pillows were also good and the bed linen was clean and fresh. ||||And that’s basically it for good points.||||The bad:||||*Cleaning. See photos. The rooms were filthy. I do mean filthy. One floor had a sticky spill on it, which came off on our feet. The curtains had accumulations of dust, there were thick wads of dust attached to the bottoms of chairs, the phone had a layer of dust on it. The room smelled musty and unaired. The basin plughole was surrounded by a thick black line of mould - it came away with a tissue, so it was cleanable. The shower silicone was mouldy. The emergency cord in the shower was mouldy. There were someone’s black hairs stuck to the bathroom tiles. ||||*Maintenance. See photos. The door handle came off in our hands three times. The walls were scuffed. The loo roll holder was coming off the wall. One exterior shutter didn’t close. ||||*General management. See photos. Basically, it felt as if management was either permanently AWOL, or they didn’t give a flying f**k about their guests’ experience. The room was musty. The air con in one room was switched off in reception, and didn’t work until they figured that out. ||We were greeted by a very sad little dish of three mouldy strawberries on arrival (plus one rock hard pear and something else) - I took the mouldy strawberries down to reception the next day, along with a tooth glass that had a thick layer of grime at the bottom, and all I got was a shrug. I asked for a new glass (there were two of us in the room and only one glass). It never arrived. For that reason, we didn’t even bother to tell them that the internet would only work for one of the three of us. We were charged full rate for our daughter, who took up the other ‘suite’ but her water, towels etc were rationed out for a single person. ||||*General. The hotel seemed far from any where decent to eat. It was on a busy, traffic-heavy road and the trams started early in the morning, so it was noisy. ||||All in all it was a crappy stay. If we hadn’t been there only two nights we would have left after the first one.
