A calm, refined and genuinely thoughtful place.
We spent a very special late morning at Voaara, arriving for a swim first and then staying on for lunch. From the outset, everything felt peaceful and intentional — they were expecting us, and for most of the time we were completely alone. No one else on the beach, no other guests in the restaurant, just the sound of the sea and a discreet, attentive team quietly taking care of things.
We swam for around 40 minutes before lunch. The setting is wild and beautiful, right at the northern end of the island, with open sea and real waves breaking — very different from the calm, protected waters further south on the west coast. It gives the place a slightly raw, elemental feel that suits the landscape.
Lunch at La Plage was excellent. We both chose the grilled chicken, which was beautifully cooked — simple, precise, and clearly based on very good ingredients. We had different starters, both fresh and well judged, and finished with the panna cotta, which was outstanding: light, elegant and perfectly balanced.
After lunch, while having coffee, we had the pleasure of meeting Vi, one of the owners. She was generous with her time and shared what’s coming next: new bungalows, a tennis court, and additional activities. While she modestly credited many ideas to her husband, it was clear she is very much part of the vision and the evolution of the place.
Voaara is refined, calm and impeccably clean — not “luxury-for-luxury’s-sake”, but what you might call intelligent, barefoot luxury. The bungalows are cohesive and understated, all with coconut-branch roofs, solar power, reliable electricity and Wi-Fi throughout. Everything feels consistent, thought-through and respectful of the environment.
A place for people who value calm, space and authenticity over noise or show.
