The room was big, although a little strangely laid out, but nice and clean. Importantly, there was no minibar/empty mini fridge (we always put water or other drinks in the fridge so we missed this). The real issues were with service: we had many small issues that accumulated. Staff were usually really friendly, but were incredibly slow to answer on the phone (if they answered at all). The first 3 days we were there, we got breakfast to the room and all 3 times things were missing. We are diamond elite members of IHG and had the option to have breakfast included, which we chose. Despite this, we were repeatedly asked to pay for breakfast. We had to tell them to check that we had indeed had breakfast included each time, only after the first time this happened did we got an apology, none after. We called reception the last night (getting an answer very late) asking for some bowls and cutlery (specifically forks, knives and spoons). It took almost 20 minutes and a second call for anything to arrive, despite our room being near storage for housekeeping (which also meant a lot of noise especially quite early in the morning; something to consider if you’re a light sleeper). In the end, they forgot the spoons, but at that point, we felt it was too late to ask for some (fearing as well that we would have to wait another 20 minutes and perhaps have to give another call as well). The location is very central and very convenient especially if you come into central station and the rooms are comfortable, but the many small issues which had accumulated had a noticeable impact on the quality of our stay which unfortunately was also affected by repairs and technical malfunctions throughout: we weren’t sure if the AC was working properly (with constant flashing having to be covered up so that we could sleep), the lifts were often out of service and for half of our stay there were repairs/cleaning being done to chandeliers overlooking the stairwell which meant a large area being cordoned off, a tarp covering most of the chandelier, and a bit of a smell in that area. Overall, comfortable room, but the rest was lacking severely.

Great experience at this hotel, wished we booked it for our arrival into Glasgow but only booked it for our last night. Staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious, clean and well maintained. We were particularly pleased with the wide corridors which was helpful for my mum who uses a wheelchair. Also they are dog friendly which was great for us too, and they didn't charge us extra. Would stay here again if we come back to Glasgow, super convenient to the station with a direct entrance.

A wonderful stay at a fantastic hotel in the perfect location. You can’t really get a better location, since you can enter the hotel from the central station itself. You are right in the beating heart of Glasgow. Wonderful warm and friendly check-in experience from Dylan, and a room upgrade as part of the IHG Rewards programme. Had a Grand Twin room, which was just perfect - spotlessly clean, very large room, extremely comfy beds, bedding and pillows, big tv and couch, and a nice bathroom with a deep bath and good shower. Towels fluffy too! Breakfast was lovely - good choice and tasty selection. Staff were lovely and friendly throughout. My only one small negative, it would have been good to have a mini-fridge in the room, and was surprised this was missing.

I was pleasantly surprised actually. It's right by Glasgow Central train station, although not loud at night despite being close to the station. One of the lifts was out of order, which slowed things down slightly and breakfast is a decent walk along corridors and stairs due to being an old building. The choice for breakfast is good, everything was hot and fresh. Everything seemed clean and staff friendly, so I would stay again.

One of the Worst IHG Stays – Very Disappointing I’m an IHG Rewards member (used to be Platinum) and have stayed in many IHG hotels around the world – this was honestly my worst experience so far. Stayed here recently with my wife and kids. The room setup was fine – two queen beds which worked well for the four of us – but the cleanliness was seriously bad. When we first checked in, the room didn’t feel properly cleaned, but what really made it worse was the housekeeping over the next couple of days. Each time we’d leave the room in the morning and come back later in the day, the only thing that seemed to be done was the beds. That’s it. Crumbs still on the floor, used toilet paper not removed, toothbrush stains left around the sink – nothing got cleaned. This happened again and again – not just once. My wife and I ended up complaining before we checked out, and someone actually went to the room and took pictures, so they clearly saw what we were talking about. Just completely missed the basics. The AC was also useless. Barely worked, if at all – the room felt stuffy and uncomfortable most of the time. And don’t even get me started on the lifts – so slow it was a joke. Only two lifts for the whole hotel, and one day we literally had to queue just to get in. Never seen that in any hotel before. This place is rated 4 stars, but honestly, I’d drop it to 3. Easily one of the worst “4-star” hotel experiences I’ve had. I expected way better from an IHG property

The hotel is a favourite of ours. The location, staff and rooms are always excellent. We stayed in a station Concourse view room this time.. The room was very good. However there was one improvement we would suggest. We do like to watch the coming and goings in the station.. But there is no suitable seating in the room, a couple of high stool type seats would be ideal for this room type. Overall we recommend this hotel.

A lovely hotel in a very good location in Glasgow. It’s located in a historic building which was part of the central station, and you still get views of the station from inside. The rooms were spacious, well equipped and stylish like the rest of the hotel. It has a lovely bar which gets quite lively in the afternoons. While we didn’t have any direct negative experience with the service, I would expect a bit more attention to detail and guests from a 4 star hotel. If you plan to travel with a car be careful, parking is not easy to find

My sister and I had a wonderful stay at the voco Glasgow Central. We had arrived very early by sleeper train from London and being an IHG member, we were able to check in to an available room right away so that we could rest and wash up. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. The room was beautifully decorated and well appointed. We had the breakfast buffet one morning and really enjoyed the Scottish offerings - black pudding and haggis - and we had a lovely staff person point us to some live music offerings for the evening. The location also could not be beat - so central and convenient. Would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Located right next to the train station, it has one entrance from street and another in train station. Very friendly check in staff.  Special mention for Jamie who did a wonderful job.  I noticed no bell boy staff when checking in. My room was small but functional.  It had a huge bathroom, it was almost as big as the room.  One thing missing was a  luggage stand.  Room included a fan and heater in the wardrobe case along with the usual ironing board and hairdryer. Unusual location for the hair dryer as it is not near the bathroom.  Bathroom has no drawers.   No centralized heating because I could not find the  thermostat.  Radiator heater was on max but no heat.  Explains the fan and heater in the wardrobe closet.  I found the room temperature ok.  In the summer or winter, some one may fin exception to it.   Sound echos down long hall way.  I could occasionally hear people couple of rooms down talking loudly in the hallway.   Room was overlooking the roof of the train station and I could hear the sound of trains coming and going. Great location to Glasgow Central and walking distance from Glasgow Queen Street station.  FYI, make note of which train station departing and arriving from.  My train from Edinburgh stopped at Glasgow Queen Street station, not Central station.  Quick 10 minute walk over. I would definitely stay here again because of its location and cost.

Yelp
I treated myself to a night here before going on holiday and start of my birthday celebrations. When I got there they couldn't be nicer and had upgraded me for free (that never happens to me). I got a junior suite which was sumptuous AND even a complimentary bottle of prosecco, woohoo. Honestly I could have spent my whole time in the bathroom it was so lovely. I was on the top floor and it was so peaceful considering it is attached to a train station.

Yelp
Notes I have not eaten food here so can only comment on the facilities that l have used. In reticent months I've been here on two occasions attending private shareholders meeting these are usually held upstairs in the where there are private meeting rooms & a larger ballroom area. Refreshments Where served where we had he most awful filter coffee that l have tasted possibly in my life, only when you have had proper coffee for months and then drank a filter coffee you then appreciate the better quality stuff. We where also treated with the finest packet shortbread biscuits. The meeting rooms are nice and spacious but couldn't help notice that everyone kept their jackets on due to how cold the meeting rooms where, l was still cold wearing a face the north jacket, gloves and hat.

Yelp
This hotel is just great! Really great! I was in Glasgow for conferences and staying here made the visit even more enjoyable in this wonderful city. Check-in had a minor issues - not the fault of the hotel - but they sorted it with lightening speed. They also have free wi-fi throughout. Impressive. The room was gorgeous, spacious, ultra clean and well appointed. My bed was beyond comfortable and I just love the old/original buildings in Glasgow and the updating of them is approriate and sensitve to the history and heritage of the city. This hotel gets that balance just right. Fantastic! Meals were very good and a wide selection including items (tasty items) for gluten free dining. The only snag is I noticed room service has some kinda pricey fees attached. Hmm. Still the food was just so yummy and those potato scones with haggis at breakfast were life! Delicious!! The location is perfect for everything, Princes Square, Royal Exchange, Buchanan, Argyle & Clyde Streets too. It's all a few minutes away. The hotel is right next to Glasgow Central Station. So Convenient. The staff here are helpful and willing to point you in the direction of any attractions, eateries or pubs. Thanks to the entire staff for a great stay!

Yelp
This was the hotel we stayed in after our wedding and we returned recently when out for a night in Glasgow (to escape a particularly rough week) and spontaneously decided not to go home so we checked in here! We managed to book a deal on my husband's phone for just £71 including breakfast. Staff were welcoming and friendly (we didn't get any funny looks or comments regarding checking in at midnight with no luggage, haha!) and asked if we'd stayed with them before. I mentioned it being our wedding hotel and they welcomed us back asking when we got married, etc (I was having wishful thoughts of free upgrades but we were given a normal room). Our room was lovely (although obviously smaller than the large room we booked for our wedding which was before the suites were finished after the refurbishment in 2011) and a very good size with large wardrobes, usual coffee/tea making facilities and a good size bathroom with a bath. The room also had a bottle of complimentary sparkling water and 2 little Lily O'Brien's chocolates which is a nice touch. As we were about to make our way down to the bar to get some prosecco (to avoid the room service charge) there was a knock at our door and room service had brought us 2 glasses of pink fizz to welcome us back to the hotel! So lovely and very appreciated! The white sheets were nice and crisp and the bed very comfy - just the tonic we needed that weekend :) Breakfast was also nice (the sausages have improved since our last stay) although not amazing but we loved the mini pancakes, made fresh at the press of a button on the machine next to the buffet. My only little niggles being - the room was quite draughty (although there was a heater provided) and the curtains don't close, there's just a blind which doesn't prevent the cold air blowing in. And at breakfast, each time our teacups were filled they were filled almost to the brim if you don't pay attention and ask the server to stop! No room for any milk never mind the masses I like to add!

Yelp
Polished yet cozy. My king room felt quite new; it had an eight-foot high ceiling and was very spacious. Furnishings were comparatively updated against the age of the building but were appropriately matched. Being attached to the train station is a definite plus. Two drawbacks: the room lacked electronically controlled air conditioning and, because it's located along a major bar/club strip, the thumping sound of bass might just keep a light sleeper up all night. No free wifi. Check-in begins at 3 PM and no earlier.

Yelp
Public areas look great, reception staff are friendly. Perfectly located for central station, especially since there is a door into the hotel from the station concourse. That's the positives... We attended a charity function. Drinks on arrival were warm & flat & tasted like cheap wine rather than champagne. The food was served cold despite being a venue designed to cater to a large crowd. We stayed in a twin room on a Saturday night & the blaring music from the disco/bar continued until 2am. We were told there were no other rooms available in a quieter part of the hotel. Breakfast buffet was the traditional full breakfast, pastries & fruit. All very standard. Pancakes/poached eggs etc are available for a £5 surcharge. Wouldn't rush back.

Yelp
We traveled with a group and booked an extra night to accommodate an early flight from the US. The hotel is historic but rather tired. Our room was ok but the location next to the trains was terribly loud. Announcements ended at 11 pm. However there is a piano that travelers play all night! Besides the noise, the windows could not be opened due to the filth on the landing. Not sure the street side would be quieter. Recommend trying for a higher floor. Staff indicated we could not be moved. That was surprising.

Yelp
Three words: BEST.SHOWER.EVER. Our room was one that had just recently been renovated and our shower was different than those on the other floors. There is a rainfall shower head coming from the top of the shower along with a detachable shower hand. You could control the flow of each individually and when both were on full-flow it was just magical...I could have stayed in there for hours! Only problem is the drain doesn't clear quickly enough to keep both on full-flow for your entire shower, but if you give it a break and let it drain, it's fine. There was even a claw-foot tub, which I am sure was also quite wonderful, but I never got that far! The bed was also one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. The combination of amazing shower and super comfy bed means you'll sleep like a baby! Upon checking in the staff was very welcoming and friendly and the concierge was wonderful in giving us suggestions and even making dinner reservations. We were blown away, immediately, at how beautiful the hotel was. It is an absolutely gorgeous building with lots of wonderful details. The rooms are large and well decorated with plenty of storage space if you are staying long enough to unpack your belongings. There is free WiFi available. You need a code and you have to fill out a questionnaire, but after I connected once I never had problems and my phone automatically re-connected any time we were back at the hotel. The hotel is extremely convenient as it is located with an entrance right in the Central Station. It is close to a lot of great shops and restaurants and seemed to be in a great part of town. I would not hesitate to stay here again if I were ever back in Glasgow. In fact, I would make a point to stay here. My entire experience was perfect and I am only disappointed that I didn't even get to spend a full 24 hours!

Really old, charming & sort of haunted. Amazing location, large.suites and great service.

Yelp
Nice hotel right next to train station. Our room was twice the size of a regular hotel room and very nicely appointed. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We stayed on Friday night and the hotel was hopping with parties and events. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
I like this hotel. Like, I really like this hotel. Myself and the other half went for a wee midweek city-stay to celebrate the end of a project, and we've had a good night here in the past. Check in was smooth, although there was a mix up with the type of room we had. When we got to the room we realised that we didn't have a bath, only a shower, but the staff swapped our room immediately. The top floor has recently had a refurb, and I believe that there are plans to refurb the floor above that too. In general, there's a high-end feel, although there is a bit of a discrepancy between the floors. However, unless you visit more than one, like we did when changing room, you wouldn't notice. The range of deals (Treat your partner is a favourite, wine & chocolate + bathrobes & Breakfast included in the price) is good, and the rooms have some variety - the suites, if within price range, are unusual and definitely have more of a boutique feel than other city centre hotels. I've been involved with charity events here, and I'm really very impressed with the ballroom. It has so much character, and the staff are excellent. The conference facilities are also really nice, and I have a lot of time for the staff. Mass catering isn't always great but the staff here do a good job. The champagne bar on the first floor overlooks central, which is a nice touch. However, the prices are pretty high, and I wouldn't choose to have more than one or two. All in - a lovely wee destination for a couple. Although yes, you're in the train station, and that does feel a tad odd.

Yelp
My review is based only on my stays in the hotel, and not on the champagne bar or the restaurant (neither of which I used). I've stayed here twice now - in July 2011 and February 2012 - and have been very impressed both times. First of all, considering how beautiful the hotel is in terms of architecture and finish, it's dirt cheap to stay here. The literature in the rooms says something along the lines of "rooms from £69", but in July 11 I stayed here for £49, and in Feb 12 I stayed here two nights at £35 a night, which is just amazing really. The location is also pretty fantastic - right in the heart of the city - so even if you're venturing a little further afield the Grand Central Station is next door, and there are other connections just a short walk away. The rooms are very nicely done. Huge double beds (wider than they are long), a fair size TV, kettle and various teas/coffees (and two biscuits!), and a large shower or bathroom depending on what you booked. Because of the design of the building, the ceilings are also huge with giant windows, and on both my stays I've been put in rooms with great views. I guess I'm lucky sometimes! Finally, staff are friendly (maybe a bit too friendly?) and knowledgeable. I will be back.

Yelp
My sister and I stayed at this charming hotel as a one-night stop-over between Dublin and Edinburgh. We found this hotel by chance and I was very happy with it! The hotel has a lot of character to it, is beautifully designed and right in the middle of the city. Just a block or so away and you're in the thick of it. The staff was keen to accommodate anything we needed. Our room was spacious, as was the bathing area. I was very impressed with how quiet the room was considering our windows overlooked the train terminal. I would definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Awful. The staff are useless. The drinks are crap and overly priced. The atmosphere is dull. You want so much more for your hard-earned pennies therefore you will not give them to places that have no imagination and serve you the same rubbish as everywhere else whilst charging you a premium for it.

Tony W.

Yelp
This is a beautiful hotel in a great area, and the rooms are large and beds are comfortable. However, the rooms are incredibly warm and the windows are cable-locked shut so you can't open them more than a crack. The wi-fi internet situation here is the worst system I've ever experienced while traveling. If internet doesn't matter to you, then don't bother reading on and you'll enjoy the hotel. But if it does, here's my experience: The hotel advertises that they offer free internet, with 'super speed' internet available for £10 per day. The free internet requires you to fill out a lengthy registration form every 30 minutes, as it kicks you off. It's comparable to the 2x the speed of old dial-up modems (approximately 128kbps on a speed test), taking 2-3 minutes to load a single webpage. Certainly not enough for a Skype call back home. So, I went downstairs to Reception to purchase the £10 higher-speed internet that doesn't kick you off every 30 minutes and was told they were out of access codes for the day. It's not like the codes are physical objects; it's not possible to run out of them! I was told there was nothing they could do, and I missed being able to call back home for a work meeting I needed to be on. So, I called back the next day down to Reception and they were still out of codes, even though it was after the usual check-out time. They said they could give me a username and password to the higher-speed internet that wouldn't kick me off every 30 minutes. The 'high speed' internet wasn't; I did a speed test and both download and upload came to exactly 0.49mbps which means they are artificially rate limiting each connection. Ugh. Attempted to do an audio-only Skype call and it was choppy and awful. I'd understand if the internet was temporarily not working and they were up-front and apologized, but it became a hassle and the staff was incredibly unhelpful and unknowledgeable. I wouldn't stay here again unless I was zombie sleep-walking after a long train ride to Grand Central Station and needed something close.

Yelp
Ok, so this review is more about the bar than the hotel. First of all you enter from outside and turn to the right to be faced with something that is reminiscent of the grand staircase on the titanic! As I have never been in this hotel pre-refurb I have nothing to compare it to but by god ladies and gentlemen the money spent was worth it! When you reach the first floor the bar is located at the end of a corridor with a similar look to that of the hotel from the shinning...except without the scary looking twins in it....or the dire looking carpet....or the horrible wallpaper.....ok it doesn't so much remind you of the hotel from the shinning but could easily be used for some scary period horror film. The bar itself is curved inwards and stretches and good distance from either sides of the immediate seating area. There is a separate seating area full of what appears to be comfy seats and couches. I presume comfy because so far I have not had the pleasure of this seating area. The other comparison with the Titanic is how fast my wallet was sunk in this bar! Very pricey for the standard spirits and mixers, however, the cocktails are worth the money! So in short this bar is very nice to try and to try on the odd occasion at that. Maybe for a birthday or another special occasion but not for everyday or every weekend drinking!

Yelp
Hotel is gorgeous. Really nice. Great local. Well maybe too great. Both Friday and Saturday night of our stay there was live music and partiers outside our window until after 3 am..... Yelling and singing and partying. Really loud. Such a bummer because we were in Glasgow for my daughters Irish dance comp and needed to get up really early. So disappointing.

Yelp
We found a great deal through lastminute.com under a secret offer. Luckily we were correct in our assumption that it was this hotel. We stayed here for the first time last week and we loved it. The room which was on the second floor was incredibly spacious with a really comfy bed. The only problem with it was they had pushed two single beds together which tended to separate a little so it was easy to roll into the gap which was a bit annoying. The bath is pretty big in length and depth and has one of those taps that doesn't dig into your back. The shower was one of those rainfall ones - i could have stayed under it forever. No dressing gowns provided though :( Although there is an ironing board, iron and hairdryer in the wardrobe. Our bedroom faced outside the station but our bathroom looked into it which was pretty cool although i was worried about the noise from the tannoy announcements. It wasn't so bad if we kept the bathroom door closed but I would imagine if you had a bedroom overlooking the inside of the station, it would be noisy until the station closes. So I'd recommend asking for a room not looking onto the interior, or bring ear plugs. Although it is pretty interesting seeing it after midnight devoid of busy travellers. One thing to note is that the television is set up for the visually impaired with very faint audio in the background - I'm sure there must be some way to turn it off but we couldn't figure it out so was bit distracting while watching tv. We didn't use any of the restaurant or bar facilities but the location is perfect for dandering over to M&S in the station and picking up a bottle of wine and some snacks if you fancy it. The reception area is very elegant and the staircases impressive with dangling chandeliers and sparkly lights. All in all, a lovely stay and we would definitely go back.

Yelp
Loved this hotel we go at least 3 times a year and it never disappoints. Huge rooms spotlessly clean. Friendly reception staff and our suite was also ready at 10:30am which was really great added bonus.. Concierge could do with a bit more attention to detail and a cheery smile always seems to be a bit of a bother for them storing bags etc. Breakfast was lovely as always fresh and loads to choose from. Only one drawback i'm afraid is check your bill before you leave as we were overcharged by £44 however the girls were apologetic and sorted it right away so no harm done but just as well i didn't use the express checkout.:)

Yelp
I loved this hotel with its large rooms, hallways, modern bathroom, elegant public areas, and connection to the train station. I arrived in Dublin by train on a rainy day and never had to go outside to get to my room. I wanted to eat in my room so went to the excellent deli in the train station. Breakfast is served in an elegant dining room, offering all the choices you could possibly want, and staffed by attentive waiters.
