Hotel Brooklyn

"Hotel Brooklyn is Manchester’s newest (opened 2020) and arguably coolest hotel, located in the middle of Portland Street, a seven-minute walk from Manchester Oxford Road rail station. There’s a shouty neon-orange sign out front and a drive-in style film projector through the sliding doors into the open-plan lobby, bar, and restaurant where guests can check themselves in via iPads handed out by the attractive staff. It’s a lovely urban spot all things considered, the 189 rooms decorated in smoky charcoal, with mustard-yellow curtains and mint-green winged armchairs. Windows are floor-to-ceiling and there are mood-setting spotlights, and framed sketches of New York street scenes on the walls. A nice touch sees some of the suites have wildflower terraces to attract bees, Manchester’s symbol. There are also attractive in-room Smeg fridges stocked with Brooklyn lager and cans of G&T (at a price). Food and drink is solid, too. In the cozy bar sip cocktails while listening to a record of your choice on the personal turntables ; headphones provided. In the restaurant, with its exposed chrome overhead pipes, enjoy the likes of pork chops and burgers of an evening, waffles and bagels in the morning. Hotel Brooklyn is about as buzzy and New York as Manchester gets, the perfect spot for a trendy city center stay."

I stayed here over Pride weekend. Check-in was smooth, I got early check-in due to my Ambassador status, my room was huge and spotless, the bed was very comfortable, and I liked the Apotheke amenities. Location near Canal Street is also a big plus. Where things fell short was that the hotel did not seem well-prepared for Pride weekend. The Pride experience was underwhelming. Breakfast both days was clearly understaffed — just one lady trying to manage everything, with slow table clearing, no plates and bowls available, and a jammed toaster. Decorations were minimal (balloons only were put up Friday afternoon), and while they offered a Pride cocktail, there was only one bartender. On parade day, I was happy to see voco employees preparing in the restaurant, but during the march they looked disengaged, walking without energy or enthusiasm. Given its prime location near Canal Street, voco could really shine during Pride. Next year, more effort with staffing, decorations, and maybe a small goodie bag for guests would make a big difference (ie : tote bag with pride items) Other Notes: The night staff/security team could also work on being a bit friendlier. Overall: Despite the shortcomings around Pride, I still see great potential here. The location, rooms, and comfort are excellent — but the hotel really needs to prepare better for big events and ensure staffing matches guest demand. With improvements, voco Manchester could easily become one of the best places to stay for Pride weekend.

This was our first time staying at voco Manchester - City Centre and overall it was a good experience. The hotel is brilliantly located, excellent proximity to the city center, you can walk to shops, bars, restaurants and public transport. The check-in process was smooth, staff were friendly, relaxed, efficient and the recognition I received as an ihg rewards Diamond member was good. ||Our room a Premium King was inviting, spacious, the decor was stylish with an industrial edge. Immaculate cleanliness throughout the room. The room offered good in-room amenities everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Despite the central location, the room was pleasantly quiet and we had a great nights sleep, the bed was very cosy and the bedding high quality gorgeous and indulgent. The bathroom was sleek, large walk-in rain shower found it very rejuvenating with quality full-size pump dispenser toiletries, great efforts in reducing plastic waste.||The room was a generous size, however I feel that the extra space available would benefit by adding a cosy couch or sofa which would really make a big difference in providing a spot to relax beyond just the bed.||The main let down for our stay was breakfast. An average breakfast could do with improving, as it didn’t match the overall standard of this premium hotel. The breakfast was disappointing a basic hot and cold buffet, the selection covered the essentials but it felt more functional than enjoyable enough to start the day but not a highlight also I noticed that the toaster at breakfast was not working properly needs fixing.

Had a wonderful one night stay at this hotel. The manager on duty, Aussie Matt was super friendly and helpful upon our arrival and throughout our stay. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite during our stay. The suite was massive, spacious and clean. Although centrally located we didn't hear any noise from our room and slept well. The reason we chose this hotel was because it was rated really highly for being one of the best wheelchair friendly hotels in the UK, and they certainly met expectations. The hotel itself is conveniently located for easy access to Manchester Piccadilly and a short walk to many places around the city area. Would definitely stay here again if we come back to Manchester.

My recent stay at voco Manchester was nothing short of outstanding. The location is absolutely brilliant — nestled right in the heart of the city, it’s just a short walk to all the major attractions, shopping streets, and transport links. Whether you’re headed to Deansgate, the Arndale, Salford, or even just popping out for a stroll along the canals, everything is so easily accessible. It made exploring Manchester incredibly convenient and enjoyable. What truly stood out, though, was the food. The breakfast buffet was a delightful spread of classic British options, all beautifully presented and constantly replenished. I especially adored the warm pastries and the fresh fruit selection — so fresh and flavourful. The hotel restaurant’s evening menu was equally impressive. Every dish I tried was cooked to perfection, with a lovely balance of flavours and a clear attention to detail. From the attentive service to the stylish, modern decor, voco Manchester delivered on all fronts. But the prime location and mouthwatering food really elevated the experience. I wouldn’t hesitate to return — a gem of a hotel in the heart of Manchester!

One of the best value hotels I have stayed in. The rooms are spacious, clean, well decorated. Had all the amenities I needed for a business stay - a good shower, hairdryer, iron, ironing board and a breakfast with a wide selection. And to top it off the staff were all lovely - a particular thank you to the night reception staff - the flush on my toilet was faulty late at night and within 5 minutes I was sent a new room key and moved to a new room. Would stay here again for sure.

I was down in Manchester for a few days of work but my wife also travelled with me for some R&R. The hotel is beautiful and modern and different. The majority of the team were brilliant. We had dinner on 2 nights and I have to say, the best Steak frites I have ever had, without a doubt. See picture attached. The bar team, especially Lucas the manager, were what made our stay. They were so brilliant, engaging, flamingos on show for sure. I witnessed one of the best things I have seen in hospitality in a long time. Lucas was on the bar almost alone with a wedding party of approx. 50 people and while serving them and everyone else he made the time for a young boy that wanted to make a cocktail. Amazing and an absolute credit to the hotel and brand. We had Breakfast and the offering is very nice and exactly what you need, love the beans with pepper mmmm. The room was amazing, got a cheeky upgrade, thanks so much. Spotless and staff in housekeeping very friendly and living the 10-5 IHG rule for sure. Would I return, yes 100% and will do. Thank you once again.

One of your Male English staff attending to us at the breakfast counter was rude to me. I was with my colleagues and wanted to ask something to them but he shouted asking me to queue back up. Hotel Staff are trained not to be rude to your customers. Obviously, he is not. He is not suitable to serve people there, walking around like some big shot. Breakfast buffet was mediocre, nothing good about it. There was also no power in my room upon check in because of a power trip, but was ok after the staff fix it. The tv could not be turned on after tat, so I had to call in the same guy again, and he seemed frustrated. Please, To the hotel manager, look into your staff here. None was accommodating. I wouldn't recommend the hotel here because of the service. The staff here are arrogant. The only good thing is just the area. I am not a tourist. I am here for work.

We stayed at the hotel for 1 night on room only basis. Our standard King room was modern, spacious, well furnished. The bed was very comfortable and the biggest plus on a warm day was that the air conditioning was excellent. The room was well equipped with cans of water and the Nespresso machine was a lovely addition. Check in was smooth and Apurva was helpful and friendly. Check out was quick and friendly too. Location of the hotel is perfect and a short walk to restaurants, bars, etc. We greatly enjoyed our stay. Vocco Manchester will certainly be our first choice for any future overnight stays in Manchester especially in summer given the fab air conditioning.
