This was our lunch stop on our tour, that included tastes of Hawaii and that's exactly what we got. There was an eclectic art shop, filled with pieces from all over Hawaii. I bought some jewelry and some local wasabi paste that I can't wait to get home and try. The exterior of the shop is filled with art and beautiful plants. It is a peaceful place. I only wished we had more time to walk around the outside. Our lunch was served in a private greenhouse. Great poke and sticky rice. Even though our wine tasting consisted of one wine from California, I would definitely recommend stopping. The staff is so friendly and kind. How can you not be working in a location like this. It's a little hard to find because it is so tucked away off the road, but it is worth it.

Google
We stopped here during our cruise with the Volcanoes & Taste of Hawaii tour. I’m SO glad it was part of the itinerary because it was delightful to meet Ira & his team. We also got to see so many beautiful local & handmade items for purchase. I know my loved ones will cherish the unique art pieces I’m bringing home to them! I will be telling everyone to put this on their list of stops when in the Hilo area!

This place is just magical! The staff and owner are exceptionally helpful and informative. The grounds are like a fairy land and the art work of jewelry, stained glass, carvings and sculpture are found no where else. There is something for everyone’s taste. Prices are extremely reasonable and a very tasty cafe to complete the tour. We love taking our guests here.

Google
Gorgeous gardens, beautiful and compelling art, sculpture, jewelry, and more. The food smelled divine in the cafe, with helpful & friendly staff, and Ira Ono, the owner, is a delight. Be sure to stroll through the secret garden through the gate at the back of the parking lot before you depart. Highly recommend for local artist shopping.

This is a shop full of amazing art works. I purchased a cloth necklace that I loved so much I returned for another one for myself & one for a gift. Also purchased 2 beautiful pairs of earrings. I love to find items that you will not see anywhere else & are truly unique. If you feel the same this is the spot for you. The people that work here were delightful & friendly. Gave us lots of info on the artwork.

Google
Such a beautiful spot and I was able to purchase the best local, handmade jewelry and home goods. Ira is fabulous and is sure to keep a glass of wine filled for you at all times while you peruse his beautifully curated items. Will be returning in a couple days before I leave the island!

Google
Volcano Garden arts is a magical place! Ira Ono has turned it into a place where people can walk the beautiful grounds that is full of art, peace, tranquility and love. There are places hidden for meditation, the cabin is fabulous and the food excellent. I highly recommend a visit !

Relaxing atmosphere! The store was cute and had some great gift ideas.

Yelp
Very interesting gift items at reasonable prices. Customer service is great. Cafe with outdoor seating.

Yelp
A truly unique sanctuary tucked along the side of Old Volcano Rd, completely expressing Ira's warm, artistic and open personality. Be sure to check out the tree sanctuary, which - although simple - was literally one of my favorite places on the island because of how unexpectedly peaceful and lovely it was. And don't forget to say hi to the big New Zealand bunnies!

Yelp
Art gallery and sculpture gardens located on the same property as Cafe Ono. Art gallery is full of unique and eclectic gifts, crafts, souvenirs, etc. There were wooden animal carvings, ceramic masks, glass and metal jewelry, fiber pouches and purses, prints, paintings and more. Everything is made by local artists. Great way to support local artisans and businesses. Even more interesting are the many sculptures decorating the surrounding gardens. Many are asian themed - like the numerous styles and iterations of buddha. There is also an Alice in Wonderland inspired tea cup garden. In addition, there is a beautiful and peaceful tree sanctuary, a "secret garden" walking trail, two fluffy pet bunnies, and garden tents and tables decorated with more sculptures and artwork - definitely giving off a Mad Hatter/Mad Tea Party feel. Fascinating place to explore. If you are in the Volcano area, put Volcano Garden Arts and Cafe One on your must-do list.

Yelp
We never miss coming here when we are on Big Island Ira Ono has made this place an Artful retreat which helps support local artists. FYI an excellent cafe on premises too!

Yelp
This was a unique place. Everywhere you look, there is something to see. Make sure to look for the pine tree cathedral out in the yard, and say hi to the adorable bunnies in their pen. Ira Ono and his staff are there to greet you as you walk through the door. We were offered a glass of wine while we walked through. I thought it was so cool that they encourage you to handle the art. My group left there with a huge pile of goodies to bring home for friends and family. I also appreciated that the whole place is filled with local Hawaiian art. So many other places are filled with stuff that was made in China, and just doesn't have that authentic feel. I will definitely be back to this place next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
Aloha I recently relocated to Volcano and word around the town was to visit the Volcano Garden Arts Sancturay of Ira Ono. So, I did! I was enchanted by the mystical gardens and places to creatively play and hear children's laughter echo. This is not just a "tourist destination", it's a local artistic hub for creative individuals to come together and play like children laughing. After meeting Ira Ono, I was invited to participate in the community writer's group. I could not have felt more welcomed into the Volcano community. It's hard relocating. I called upon Pablo Neruda and "lifted up my roots" seeking a place to root again. Ira's hub of creative people of all kinds (culinary included) is helping me establish my roots in Volcano. This is truly a place of enchantment both for tourists and locals. A glimpse of true Hawaiian creative community. Thank You Ira Ono. Mahalo, Vittorio...

Yelp
What a beautiful spot -- worthy of lunch, shopping or just a moment's peace. Our guide with Nui Pohaku Adventure Tours brought us to Volcano Garden Arts as part of our cruise excursion, and I'm so glad he did! Upon entering the cottage-size gallery, we met owner Ira Ono, an artist who made several of the items in the shop. He explained his goal behind Volcano Garden Arts and a bit about his path with his art. Fun fact: Ono was chosen to make the ornament representing Hawaii for the White House Christmas tree. His ornament depicted an iiwi bird, whose feathers were made from old Hawaiian postage stamps. The small shop is overflowing with goodies, and the prices aren't too steep. It has art, jewelry, accessories and other fun knick knacks. I ended up buying small containers of Hawaiian sea salt, among a few other things. But the jewel of Volcano Garden Arts is its grounds. They feature a soothing fountain, and the entire area is full of colorful plants, trees and flowers. It was a joy to wander aimlessly and take in the beauty. Small statues dotted the landscape. And in the back of the yard was a giant rabbit in an enclosure -- the gallery pet, perhaps! Our guide set up lunch for us in a private, tented area. There was so much shade that it was the epitome of comfort. But if you haven't brought lunch with you, Volcano Garden Arts also has a small cafe with sandwiches, desserts and coffee. The Big Island has small spots of beauty, and this is one of them!

Sabrina S.

Yelp
Looking for handmade soaps, artwork, jewelry, and ceramics? Come here! I found unique Christmas presents for my whole family and also had a good vegetarian bite to eat. All goods are from local artist or the owner himself. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly. Support local and stop by when you're visiting Volcano!

Yelp
If you plan on visiting Volcano Village, you must stop at Volcano Garden Arts! Ira's gallery is a beautiful and peaceful space, full of unique gifts and treasures. My husband and I spent quite a while browsing the gallery and the outdoor gardens. We purchased a few gifts for family members, as well as a couple of Ira's clay masks to take home with us. We also had the pleasure of meeting Ira during our visit. He is such a kind, generous, and welcoming soul. We can't stop talking about how much we love this gallery, and we can't wait for our next visit to add to our collection!

Connie C.

Yelp
Please do not leave without visiting this garden. We had lunch at One cafe and then walked the garden to view the art, the Buddha's and much more. You will not leave here not feeling relaxed, calm and at peace. This garden has inspired me to add more to my garden at home. A must visit! Say hi to noble the rabbit for me.

Rachel S.

Yelp
Located in a beautiful sprawling home surrounded by amazing Gardens this is a definite must-see when in volcano. There is such a beautiful variety of arts and crafts Buy Local and exceptional artisans. Looks like it would be a beautiful venue for a wedding or any kind of gathering. I especially liked the policy of please touch posted on signs all around the inside of the house where all the treasures are. Very friendly women running the store and obviously very high quality standards. Something for everyone know for sure I bought a $6 shell trinket tray which was exactly what I was looking for. Definitely would recommend!

Lorien O.

Yelp
Loved this collection of local art! Pieces spanned the spectrum of cost. We found a beautiful fused glass ornament to remember HVNP. More traditional souvenirs were acquired across the street at the Volcano House.

Ken C.

Yelp
Volcano Garden Arts is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places to visit on the Big Island. Ira (the owner) makes you feel at home in his enchanted surroundings. The shop is full of his art and other local artists pleasures. A must stop and experience adventure.

Susan K.

Yelp
Ira is the friendly owner and artist in residence of this great place. Not only are the grounds tranquil and beautiful, but it's also a great place to grab lunch and do a little shopping as well. I come back to the islands each year and love seeing the new treats Ira has in store as well. Well worth the visit to Volcano.

Kristina D.

Yelp
After a long day of traveling with our small children, this place/the people/the food/the art/the vibe was literally a breath of fresh air?!?

Heather I.

Yelp
If you need a break from hiking around Volcano Park, definitely take a quick drive to this art gallery. Wonderful pieces from a variety of artists and the sweetest staff. The garden surrounding the gallery is equally impressive and there is even a cafe for lunch. Totally worth the stop.

MaryAnn S.

Yelp
We had lunch and a shopping adventure at Volcano Garden Arts when we were in Hawaii recently. The owner, Ira Ono, greeted us with a champagne toast and we had a healthy lunch. The shop is filled with one-of-a kind artwork and jewelry. The beautiful gardens have a variety of sculptures and buddas. It is truly a peaceful place that is a must see near Volcano National Park.

Stacey M.

Yelp
Love this place! We have a vacation home in Volcano and I always come here to see what is new every time we are on the island. Lovely place to walk around the gardens and check out the many unique features of the property. Thank you Ira for this great place.

Rene V.

Yelp
I've known the owner (Ira Ono) for years ! He is the kindest, most creative artist I've ever had the pleasure of working with. The grounds are impeccable and you will find a beautiful surprise in every corner. The cottage is a great respite from daily life . I would give the cottage 5 stars for its quiet, rustic feel, alone with bed warmers, electric fireplace, a walk in shower that offers a view of his famous gardens. If you come to Hawaii ( or live here) you will not be disappointed! On the contrary... you will want to stay forever...

Holly B.

Yelp
ALWAYS stop here to see what's new and exciting because this gallery has unique and special art and crafts by local and mainland artists. A wonderful gallery to browse and ask questions and touching is encouraged! And kamaaina receive a discount on purchases! Woo hoo! How great is that?!! Walk around the gallery, buy lots of things, then stroll outside to the room made out of trees, a nice quiet place to sit and contemplate life and look at the sky! Earnest the goat is out there too, so stop by and say "hi!" Ira Ono is the proprietor of this gallery. He's very friendly and helpful and he has added on Cafe Ono, which serves some nice soups and sandwiches and desserts!

Craig C.

Yelp
One of my truly favorite places to go for lunch for the last 10 years. I love their menu I love their food but what's more is I love the ambience and even enjoy browsing in their little store. Everyone here is so nice and Ira is a wonderful host.

Aaron K.

Yelp
Lunch is delicious!! Had the artichoke hummus sandwich, with soup and salad. Fantastic food in a relaxing outdoor setting.

Carolyn H.

Yelp
Volcano Garden Arts was one of our tours for the day while cruising with NCL on "Pride of America." Loved this special peaceful, beautiful, place with all the goodies they display along with the friendliest owners of the tour. We had lunch in the garden under a tent with all the beautiful surroundings. If you come to Hilo you really have to add this wonderful place to your visit. Thank you to Ira the owner for a special visit, and don't forget to shop for a unique gift for someone special as there are many items to please everyone.

Jason C.

Yelp
Very delicious and super healthy vegan friendly lunch to be had here. I'm a meat eater but like to eat healthy and am allergic to dairy and loved the soup and sandwich I had. Our whole family really enjoyed lunch here after hiking the park all morning. Great iced coffee. They even gave me a free refill to go! Art gallery and garden space are all very classy and eclectic at the same time. Got some great gifts for family back home. Was a very relaxing space to recharge before heading back to the park. Very friendly owner and staff.

Shannon W.

Yelp
What a little gem! Our volcano tour stopped here for coffee and a quick browse through the gift shop. I wish we could have spent longer. It looked like they were set up to host small groups for lunch in beautifully decorated tents. The garden surrounding the restaurant and gift shop was a relaxing place to stroll, with sculptures and a small pond. The gift shop was eclectic and the items looked mostly handmade -- we picked up some hand-sewn eyeglass cases. The whole place had a peaceful air about it.

Linda B.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place after our volcano excursion. In an already lovely area, it was a hidden gem. There are countless things to see on the grounds alone and the host, Ira Ono, is happy to let you explore. The gallery itself is an wonderful groups of rooms that has wonderful unique local art around every corner. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to wander around the grounds and rooms. Pick up things, touch them, ask question. You won't regret it.

LN W.

Yelp
Still great! Some of the most interesting finds and mostly better prices than you'll find in other local shops and galleries. I wish they would give a military discount, most of the others do.

Theresa C.

Yelp
We went to this lovely gallery as part of an excursion off a cruise ship. What a delightful surprise! The gallery owner, Ira, was very hospitable as were the others working that day. We had lunch under a large tent while a nice drizzle fell. The gardens are beautiful & we were able to do some early Christmas shopping. There are unique, local fine art items in all price ranges. It would be a treat to stay in the artists cottage but that will have to wait for a future trip! If you go say hi to Ernest!

Fawn H.

Yelp
My husband Ron and I love the Volcano Garden Arts shop, grounds and cottage! The art gallery has many unusual and beautiful pieces of art and local crafts, with delicious food and coffee in the attached cafe. We had the opportunity to spend two nights in the delightful and cozy cottage located on the gallery grounds. (The new hot tub made it especially romantic !) We're looking forward to visiting again soon with owner/artist Ira Ono.
