Such a lovely experience! We went to see The Sound Of Music. The cast was super talented and the production is so extra! It's such an amazing show for the value, in a beautiful theater. Would go again for sure.

Wonderful theater with a wide variety of plays and activities throughout much of the year. Great view from virtually any seat. Plenty of restrooms, cloakrooms and cafeterias. Tickets can be purchased online which makes it very convenient. There is a parking garage nearby at a very good price and within a 5 minute walk.

The Volksoper is a Viennese institution. Smaller and less flashy than the state opera on the Ring, this house presents excellent quality performances at a fraction of the cost. I have been 4-5 times in the past two seasons and really enjoy it. Comfortable seats. Very reasonably priced boxes. Good views from everywhere and fun old school bars during intermission. Worth a visit or three.

We went to see the Magic Flute and it was a wonderful performance. They are very talented and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the opera. It was a first for all of us. We read up on the story in advance and that really helped familiarize ourselves with the characters and the plot. The English subtitles were very helpful as well. Sometimes it was fun to just close my eyes and listen to the music. The orchestra was amazing. We were dressed appropriately with collared shirts and pants for the men and the girls wore dresses and a long, dressy jumper. There were a few people with shorts on but not many, even though it was really hot.

If you want to follow english surtitles, I do recommend you to select your seats NOT from the first couple of rows

Stay away from this place! We attended The Marriage of Figaro, and were deeply disappointed and shocked. The opera was not advertised as a modern retelling when we purchased our tickets months ago. It was not appropriate for children, let alone adults. The box office staff informed us that the only availability left were expensive tickets on the first floor. When we arrived, we found out that the cheaper seats (balcony) were not filled. Instead, go to the Vienna State Opera - their quality is excellent.
