I encourage you to go to this theatre. It is a beautiful old building with wonderful acoustics. We saw My Fairlady which had amazing costumes. A must when in Vienna

The opera was good, I was at Zauberflöte, the staging was interesting and the signing was very good, particularly the Königing der Nacht Aria, though the theatre itself is a bit narrow and overcrowded in intermissions on the upper floors, and cards are not accepted, need to have cash if you want a drink in the intermission

Such a lovely experience! We went to see The Sound Of Music. The cast was super talented and the production is so extra! It's such an amazing show for the value, in a beautiful theater. Would go again for sure.

The Volksoper is a Viennese institution. Smaller and less flashy than the state opera on the Ring, this house presents excellent quality performances at a fraction of the cost. I have been 4-5 times in the past two seasons and really enjoy it. Comfortable seats. Very reasonably priced boxes. Good views from everywhere and fun old school bars during intermission. Worth a visit or three.

We went to see the Magic Flute and it was a wonderful performance. They are very talented and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the opera. It was a first for all of us. We read up on the story in advance and that really helped familiarize ourselves with the characters and the plot. The English subtitles were very helpful as well. Sometimes it was fun to just close my eyes and listen to the music. The orchestra was amazing. We were dressed appropriately with collared shirts and pants for the men and the girls wore dresses and a long, dressy jumper. There were a few people with shorts on but not many, even though it was really hot.

Very modern theatre. Excellent for accessibility needs. Acoustic not brilliant. Audience members are mixed and some of the interpretations of works can be a bit polarising.

While it may not live up to the vienna state opera, it's still a place worth visiting. The opera is high quality and tickets are more reasonably priced. The staff was very friendly and allowed us in (during applauses) even though we were a bit late, although on the ticket it's stated that you're only allowed in during intermission if you're late.
