"Yup, those von Trapps, the musical family and inspiration for the Julie Andrews movie The Sound of Music. After reaching the United States, they settled in Stowe where they opened a summer camp—which begat a lodge, then a brewery in 2010." - Jessie Beck

It’s a nice restaurant. The food was unique, but too saucy for me. The ribeye steak had too much fat to my taste. The French fries were just okay. The fried chicken was amazing though. For the prices, I don’t think I would give five stars. But the atmosphere was good, and it’s an experience.

Google
Beautiful outdoor sitting area! The beer was very high quality - you could taste the difference. The food was absolutely delicious and fresh. Options for everyone and dog friendly outside. The service can definitely improve. Though everyone was friendly, the service was incredibly slow. We were outside 30 minutes before anyone came to us (and we were seated outside by the host) and waited another 30 to get the check. If it weren’t for this, they definitely deserve five stars! Highly recommend visiting and make sure to make a reservation.

In addition to the von Trapp Lodge, down the hill a bit make sure to pay a visit here. It’s very spacious, yet cozy. The menu is as expected, with German/Austrian fare, but very good. I recommend the beer cheese soup on a cold winter’s night. Sample some beers, it’s worth it. Service was solid and helpful. With all the windows the views are great and the hills are alive!

DELICIOUS meal with beautiful scenery! We enjoyed the Grilled Bratwurst with Sauerkraut and Vinaigrette Tomatoes. (Note: the sauerkraut is traditional and very sour.) For entrees we had the Roasted Vegetable Platter and the Grilled Salmon. They were FANTASTIC. We dined outside because the weather was lovely and we wanted a quieter experience.

This place seems to have an identity crisis for what it is, and wants to be. Our food was largely mediocre and the service was truly terrible. The house beer was however, great. Our waitress was very short and it seemed like we were greatly inconveniencing her by being there. More importantly though, it was incredibly uncomfortable listening to her be rude and condescending to, what appeared to be a new employee. That is so beyond unacceptable and unprofessional. Before coming, we anticipated a higher end brewery with house made food, and prices to match. To our disappointment, the food seemed to be closer to a warmed up Cisco meal with a nice plaiting and prices for food in another class. The aesthetic was very modern and pop music played over the murmurs of other patrons. This choice means it fits in firmly in the category with most other breweries, but severely lacks any sort of character or history to go with its heritage. Overall, I’d recommend you go to a different tourist trap, as this one was overwhelmingly disappointing. EDIT: they requested I reached out via email, so I did. They never responded to my email.

This stop was incredibly worth it. I’m not a huge beer drinker, but opted for 5 sampler and a small and was really impressed with all of them. The food was absolutely exquisite! We had the chicken schnitzel (with sauerkraut + red cabbage), the pretzels, the zucchini fritters, spatzel and the bratwurst. It certainly one of the better schnitzels I’ve had, and I consider myself an enthusiast having experienced them in Germany and Austria. Would love to come back here!

We visited in 2020 (right before Covid) and absolutely loved it. At the time we just had beer and enjoyed the atmosphere so we were very excited to expand upon the experience and try the food. We made a reservation and our Waitress was very nice, but the food was disappointing and definitely overpriced. I had the burger which was truthfully phenomenal, but the kitchen messed up my sides (which the waitress did recognize and correct). My Husband got the chicken schnitzel and expected it to be phenomenal as well, compared to other places that serve similar dishes he would give this one the lowest score (highest price definitely doesn't guarantee highest quality). The brews remain amazing, but on the drive away we agreed that it was all we would ever be returning for.

Our first time in Stowe and this place is a beautiful gem! While it could be on the pricier end, the food and beer are great quality and the space is beautiful!

Yelp
We really enjoyed our time here!! I would def say make a resy cause they get super packed and busy! We had a couple people in front of us who asked for a table and they were told it was going to be a 2 hour wait. Sooo def make a resy. We got to sit outside which was great cause the weather was amazing and honestly the views were super nice. I opted to get the chicken schnitzel while hubby got the brat platter. Both were very good and it was def a good amount of food! We also got the pretzel and queso to start and that was tasty as well. After our meal, we checked out the gift shop which is connected to the restaurant. Von Trapp is such a huge property so after we ate, we hung out around the area just taking in nature. Afterwards, we hopped in our car and just drove around to see other parts of the property. I would def recommend this if you're in the area!

Yelp
We had really high hopes for von Trapp Brewing Bierhall, but everything fell short for us. First, our waiter was far from on top of it, it was pretty obvious that he didn't want to be there. We split a pretzel with cheese and the mustards that were on the table. The pretzel was ok at best, I expected more. Our table also got small pours of beer, which were all just fine. For entrees, a couple of us got the chicken schnitzel, which came with an overwhelming amount of sauerkraut, and failed to provide the lingonberry vinaigrette. Both also ordered spatzle on the side, which came out overcooked. Two others got the bratwurst, knackwurst, bauernwurst platter, which were all fine. The final individual got the grilled salmon, which we collectively agreed was the best option at our table. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, but wanted so much more from the food. While I won't be visiting the bierhall again, I will be trying the other restaurants at the von Trapp Family Lodge.

Natalie B.

Yelp
Got the soft pretzel appetizer with spicy and sweet mustards. Homemade mustard was great as was the soft pretzel - and I am not even really a soft pretzel fan but when in Rome. We both got the bratwurst sandwich. It comes with sauerkraut on top (great) and got pickled beets. They aren't as tartly pickled as some jarred varieties I have tried but still very good and perhaps more authentic. Good service. Cute wood-covered atmosphere with soft yellow lighting.

Candice S.

Yelp
This food is A-mazing! We are staying at the lodge to see about a potential wedding venue, but we love beer and had to try here. We came first for dinner when we got in and then again for lunch the next day after the tour. I haven't had a lot of Austrian styled food, but everything I had was delicious. The service is a little slow, but it seems like a very popular spot.

Lynn N.

Yelp
Stopped in around 11:45 and it was pretty empty but that changed since by the time we left an hour later, it was super busy! I got samplers of the helles and trosten and liked them both! The helles I could drink all day since it's a nice light beer that is totally my style. The trosten is a bit heavier but still super flavorful. We shared the pretzels and their spicy mustard is wonderful! We also had the bratwurst sandwich and the black bean burger. Both were tasty but I think the side dishes that came with our entrees were even better than our sandwiches- the cucumber salad and the braised red cabbage were unexpected favorites of the meal! Service was prompt and we enjoyed sitting in the sunroom with a view of the snow trails. We'll definitely come back again for lunch or for brews!

Ana H.

Yelp
We enjoyed some delicious brews along with mouthwatering food while soaking in the cozy atmosphere. The service was incredibly friendly, making our experience even more enjoyable.

Linda H.

Yelp
What an amazing brewery! Great selection of beers. The food is also sooo good. Usually you don't get both but the bratwurst on pretzel bun, the pretzel with beer cheese and the spatzle were delicious. Their bread is perfection. Place gets super crowded but the bar is a good start.

John C.

Yelp
It's basically a tourist trapp. We went on a weekday. Just wanted to see the place and have a couple beers. But there was a long line just to grab a beer. So we decided just buy a 4 pack to go. The grounds were beautiful of course. But you can get that from most other breweries and wineries. You're there for the name, as we were, having watched the Sound of Music so many times. Would be a shame to miss the place since we were driving through Vermont. Too bad it was so crowded and rather expensive.

Louis B.

Yelp
Absolutely gorgeous place with views and beautiful architecture nestled in the historic and iconic Von Trapp Estate. Before going any further, a few important recommendations for newcomers: 1. Make reservations. You may make them on the Yelp app. 2. If you don't have reservations, come over early. Like opening time... 3. If your beer taste excludes anything that is not an IPA, you may be disappointed. Their brews are by and large, alpine-style Pilsners 4. They get really really busy. Tables outside the bar areas are for full service only We came here on Stowe's ski season closing weekend, on a sunny day, meaning that by 1030 our quads were screaming in agony from skiing the soft snow that began to feel like cement. With time on our hands, we decided to have lunch at this idyllic property, still in the hands of the original family. We arrived here and were at the door at 11:15 for an 1130 reservation, luckily being one of the first customers walking through the doors. The building is quite expansive, with an imposing alpine architecture that compliments the beautiful Stowe countryside. Outside, the groups of people playing frisbee golf added to the ambiance. We were seated in a beautiful covered porch that winds around the property, with stunning views. Service was flawless, with the waiter filling us on some of the historical details of the property. An advantage of being early, as the place was quickly becoming a beehive of activity. We began our lunch with the Bavarian Pretzels which came with a delicious mustard and I tried the Chicken Schnitzel sandwich washed it down with a West Coast Pilsner, which turned out to be their hoppiest selection, approximately resembling an IPA. Superb time here. The gift shop at the entrance is worth a visit.

Adriana S.

Yelp
So glad to have come here for dinner. Services was great. As well as the food; portion size just enough. The place was not too busy so that was a plus.

Rod M.

Yelp
This was a great experience. The ambience is great, felt very warm. The service was outstanding, everyone we interacted with was very friendly and professional, plus their recommendations were spot on. We started with the pretzels and I highly recommend them. The house mustards are good but definitely get the beer cheese dip with the pretzels. I had the Bratwurst, Knackwurst, and Bauernwurst, it was very good. My wife had the Chicken Schnitzel and that I'm having next time, it was excellent. I highly recommend von Trapp Brewing Bierhall if you are in the area.

Arelis L.

Yelp
We love this place! The line was out the door to order drinks but we took a spin around the bat and found 1 seat and eventually 2 seats opened up. We got a yummy pretzel with beer cheese. They have a tasty rose wine bc I wasn't in the mood for beer.. but my husband loved the October fest and I had a mini Dunkle Service was very helpful and friendly, it's a good steady busy vibe. There's outdoor seating as well as indoor

Brittany W.

Yelp
This is not a place for large groups. It's a regular Biergarten which is fine, but they had tables for reservation only and nothing for walk in. The service was slow. I'm talking 25 mins just for tap beers. And then you can't order food from the full menu, unless you're in the seated area. I didn't have a good experience because I came with a group of 10. If this had been a date, I may have liked it more.

Jess B.

Yelp
My husband and I stopped at the Bierhall after our maple tour on the farm! The beers were great, and the food was decent too! The whole place had a super chill and relaxing vibe, making it a perfect spot to hang out, not to mention the views are to die for. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking to unwind with some good food and drinks!

Vickie R.

Yelp
The host was pleasant and directed us to the bar for dinner as the restaurant was full and we did not have reservations. The bartender was perfect- he was very attentive and took great care of us while handling take-out orders as well, quite impressive. The cozy ambiance was perfect after a long day of snowboarding in the crazy 21" of snow at Stowe. I really enjoyed the brewery's shop. Some cute items for kids, and a lot of Brewery logo items. The singing goat plush was my favorite! My friend ordered a few beers but her favorite was the Dunkelweizen...highly recommend! She ordered two apps/small plates: the Grilled Bratwurst and Mini Salads. I ordered the Chicken Schnitzel sandwich and Cucumber Salad. We were both in agreement that the meal was amazing! Very unique flavors and textures combined with a hearty filling meal truly hit the spot! Highly recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a good beer and not your typical pub food in a beautiful warm and cozy setting! You won't be disappointed!

Enit S.

Yelp
If you're a Florida girl like me and have never driven up a humongous mountain; prepare for the fun. The altitude will not only have your ears popping, but feeling slightly dizzy and you can imagine how much fun that is while you're driving with narrow roads that have no railings and boasts of chilling views of what could happen if you aren't careful. Making the trek up here can be a "get ready to meet your maker moment"... for real... but if you're from here and are use to the hills I highly recommend it. The place has a very cozy, cabin in the woods feel to it. Great views of the lush hills from your table and very good food. If you like Spatzle, get it; they make it in house. Their chicken schnitzel sandwich was really delicious too. Beer was very delicious, had their Octoberfest brew and was not disappointed. Their sausages are really good as well I was told. Actually, saw a lot of people ordering them. As well as the pretzels. I would say I'll try them next time but I'll be honest; I choose life and sanity over making that drive again.

Yelp
When in Stowe, don't hesitate to stop at the Von Trapp Brewing Bierhall. Keep your expectations in check - Decorated with stuffed game and offering large picture windows, it's not a place where you're entertained by staff singing "The Sound of Music" tunes, but a tasteful modern hall where you can relax with friends and enjoy the view of surrounding nature. Importantly, Von Trapp Brewing Bierhall offers their own solid brewed beers (a range of Central European style varieties from light to dark) and nice Austrian eats to pair with those beers! Wow! Here's my reco if you have 3 power eaters or otherwise 4-5 people. Just tried with friends the excellent Large Grill Platter. It comes with bratwurst, bauernwurst, knackwurst, Austrian potato salad, pork belly, braised cabbage and marinated tomatoes, turnip slaw, and house made pickles. It was a perfect hardy winter meal. You'll want to take any scraps left over for later. So good! Their Schnitzel style Chicken Breast Sandwich with lingonberry mayo, coleslaw, and own pickle is a nice choice, but perhaps instead in the future I'd opt for the bratwurst sandwich. My recommended sides would be Spätzle plus the Austrian potato salad.

Alan S.

Yelp
Ambience excellent! Started off with the Dunkel beer and it is as smooth as silk. (Bought a six pack the next day at Shaw's) We enjoyed the pretzels with cheese dipping sauce. The schnitzel was expertly fried. The tastiest dish was the roasted vegetables and spatzle. The apple streusel was heavenly. I would come back for sure. And to the previous reviewer, you can't give a bad review if you didn't try the food or drink. That is poor form. Four star food extra star service and ambience.

Robert S.

Yelp
The food was delicious!! As soon as had the potato soup i immediately knew it was homemade and true to the Austrian tradition. I felt like I was back in my mother's kitchen again. The Turkey practically melted in my mouth, the cake, well, i thought I was dinning at the Imperial Hotel in Vienna where the cake originated. As we are not beer drinkers, wine instead, we inquired of our waiter of a beer to drink with my Turkey dinner. His selection was excellent! The atmosphere was so authentic, too!!

John S.

Yelp
My wife and I went here for our anniversary. The beer was great, the bartender talked me into the Oktoberfest which was incredible. She ordered the Cobb salad which was ok, but could have been fresher as we were in full vegetable season in Northern Vermont. I ordered the Johannes burger as rare as allowed and they did not disappoint. It was phenomenal. We ended with the Linder something dessert which was very good with fresh whipped cream. We would definitely go back but would both get the burgers. A special shout out to Kelly the bartender who was great, helpful and knowledgeable.

Shannah H.

Yelp
I loved our experience here and thought the beer selection was terrific. My family has German roots, so the menu options were perfect for my palate. Service was German-brisk - slightly surprising. Maybe we caught our wait staff on an off-day? I'd love to come back and stay at the lodge for an extended visit and more evenings at the bierhaus bar.

Andrew C.

Yelp
Wow, what a view sitting outdoors- great live music- great service by John(from MA)- he knew the menu gave great recommendations. Bratwurst with bacon sauerkraut was fantastic along with cucumber salad. Pretzel was excellent with beer cheese. Order Pilsner excellent beer by Trapp Brewery. Highly recommend - you feel like u are in Austria! .

Krista A.

Yelp
Enjoyed a gorgeous view and good lunch at Von Trapp - the pretzels with beer cheese to start and then I had the chicken sandwich (schnitzel style) with potato salad. Food was delicious. The beer and cider were both also good - I do wish the bartender would have spent a little bit of time walking us through their beers. Overall good place for something to eat and drink.

Marissa B.

Yelp
Beautiful location in Stowe, Vermont. We stopped here on the way to the Smuggler's Notch mountain pass for a drink and snack. We enjoyed our conversation with the staff. They were welcoming and gave us expanded directions to get to the mountain pass. The beer we tried on tap was great and perfect for the fall season. We loved that the menu had Austrian food selections, as well as details on the history of the Von Trapp Family Bierhall. We ordered the pretzels and were surprised by how quickly they were brought out to us. They were not warm when they came out. The pretzels were very disappointing. For the price we paid, we expected more. The quality of the pretzels were grocery store frozen food aisle. We decided not to order any additional food due to this.

Mark G.

Yelp
Stopped here on the way to our hotel in Stowe for a beer. Amazing location, beautiful post and beam building, great beer, great menu! You gotta stop in!

Mary N.

Yelp
If you look at my reviews, you can see I haven't given a review unless I had a good experience, however, my level of disappointment is so high that I am giving A review today based on my experience. I made my reservations back in early august, 2 months in advance. I had seen pics of food here and the food looked amazing. I want you to look at the pics of my chicken schnitzel sandwich. I didn't ask for anything to be removed. I simply ordered. My spatzele was dry. VERY VERY VERY DEY! I had to ask for the coleslaw which was supposed to come with my meal and I was SO DISAPPOINTED! It was not good. At all... You took my chicken and cut it in half- I don't know why. Look at how much bread was left. Your bread to chicken ratio was way off. It was a bread sandwich with pickles, Pink Mayo, and a hidden, tiny, obscure piece of chicken. My husbands fries were cold, soggy, and disappointing. He ordered a medium burger, Not a well done burger. My beer was good. That was it. And people were nice such as staff and servers. Your price point does not match the quality of your food. It was a Saturday night. In the fall. It should of been packed and it wasn't. So you can't blame it being busy. The entire meal was completely unacceptable. And again- I haven't given a review this bad in years. Either fix your price point or get a better chef. People who care about the food they put on people's plates.

Scott S.

Yelp
First off this is not a typical brewery where food can be ordered like beer - reservations are required in advance for dining. We made reservations via phone on a busy leaf peeping Friday - the place was a madhouse, front of staff overwhelmed. Despite having reservations we had to wait at least 25 minutes - not a great when you have kids - no real waiting area - it was packed with people After seating and ordering we didn't get out foods order for close to an hour so it kinda soured the entire experience. The beer was great and food quality was good but my bratwurst was cold. Place needs to be bigger with more staff, i felt bad for the staff that was overwhelmed. Avoid during peak hours.

Patricia Z.

Yelp
Breathtaking view, service is good but slow. Gets crowded so make a reservation. And the food is delicious. Prices are reasonable. Definite must try.

Amanda B.

Yelp
Excellent food, drinks and environment. A stop for us every time we're in the area. Take a case of beer home with you too!

Leah C.

Yelp
Loved the food here! We called ahead and put in a reservation in a few days prior- it gets pretty busy and when we got there the table was ready to go. The server we got sadly wasn't pleasant nor was he attentive. He forgot two meals in our order and silverware after asking. We waiting while our food became cold for about 10 min while he was serving other tables. We asked two other servers in the area for help and they were more than happy to help as a server should be. I think this employee was having a bad day- still not okay but this is the only reason I gave 5 stars the other servers were great just not ours. Good was amazing and authentic! Would go again and just ask for any other server. Well worth the drive and reservation.

Ryan J.

Yelp
We're traveling on an East Coast trip, and this brewery was on our route. The area is beautiful, and the leaves here are starting to change colors. It's up in the mountains off some winding roads. Not sure what to expect, but we were willing to try some German beers. The brewery swag was nice, so we decided to hold off until we left. The beers range from Radlers, Octoberfest-types, and IPAs. I ordered a 6oz Radler. Well, ratings are based on food and service. The beer was okay, but the hostess directed us to the bar to order and then take a seat. We paid for our beers and walked to a table. Immediately, we were confronted aggressively by an employee saying these tables were reserved for full service customers only. This aggressiveness put a bad taste in my mouth (pun intended). We were one and done with beers and skipped the swag. Amazing how customer service can make or break your experience, right?

Kristen C.

Yelp
We arrived for lunch a little after 12:30. There was already a small crowd. But we had no trouble getting a table and we sat down in a lovely sunroom adjacent to the large dining room. We shared bratwurst and cheddar soup. Oh my goodness, everything was so delicious. I also enjoyed the beer I ordered, but I can't remember what it was! My boyfriend ordered four beers, all of them dark. They were all in interesting in their own way. We had such a lovely time and we will be back.

Timothy E.

Yelp
We had friends from Maryland for the weekend and decided to visit the Von Trapp Bierhall for a late lunch. It was a bright Saturday and the place was busy but never felt crowded. Plenty of other choices to drink other than beer, but Austrian style beer is the main event. The food was very authentic even to my Milwaukee German sensibilities. The four of us decided to do the sample platter designed to feed 3-5. It was more than enough and we extra to take home. Also tried the zucchini fritters and they were SO good. The horseradish yogurt sauce and the balsamic drizzle was outstanding. The fritters were crispy outside and pillowy on the inside. So good. The sausages and pork belly were very nicely done and the saurkraut was on point. Very authentic. I was surprised that the German potato salad was served cold as I was raised on it being a warm dish. But the vinegar dressing was nicely done and was a table favorite. The ambiance is definitely designed for the skiers and there were fires and outdoor tables for those hitting the trails on the property. It's not fancy and most are wearing outdoor gear. That said, it's Helle Hanson and Patagonia heavy for sure. Staff was super nice and attentive. We can't wait to come back again in the summer to take in the Sound of Music vibe.

Sabrina P.

Yelp
Fun spot for drinks and food with the theme of the Von Trapp family! A lot of selection for merchandise (I bought a coaster and sticker!) in the restaurant, too. My boyfriend and I shared the trio of sausages and it was delicious. Good options for non-alcoholic drinks too.

Ryan F.

Yelp
The beers are well crafted to ze standards, the space is most definitely Bavarian, and the pretzels paired both perfectly.

Amber L.

Yelp
Best mashed potatoes I've ever had. We tried the schnitzel chicken sandwich. Delicious. Absolutely loved the carrot salad The sausages were good they have two types of mustard, spicy, and sweet that they bring to the table. It was family friendly with plenty of space. Nice open atmosphere with hospitable weight staff and gorgeous surroundings. A hostess guy who we never interacted with personally made a scene with a couple that had a baby. Idk what it was but it came across rude. Maybe it wasn't . Family restrooms are upstairs there is an elevator to the second floor where you can overlook the brewery. I would say I am a fan of stouts so we came for the large restaurant menu over the lagers. And we loved the German food.

Jake C.

Yelp
Had a great experience here while staying up in the area for the weekend. It was cold and snowing outside but very warm and cozy inside, felt like we were at a lodge in Austria. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food came out great, the mashed potatoes really stole the show. Gluten Free: The gluten free options are a bit limited, but there was much more than I expected for a beer hall. Everything was marked on the menu and our server was very knowledgeable. And while most of the drink menu is beer, they did have wine and cider options. Overall was impressed by the gluten free offerings and safety.

Holly K.

Yelp
Average food, average beer, average service. Ordered the cheese lager soup with a side of spätzle. The cheese soup tasted too sour for me (yellow sour sauce drizzled on top of the Cabot white cheddar cheese) and the egg noodle dumplings (spätzle) were bland, dry, and under-seasoned. The service was slow and not super friendly. Asked the waitress a couple questions about the menu, and felt like we were bothering her. This place did not impress me and I would not return.

Joe W.

Yelp
We love this place! It has the best ambiance, great food, good portions, fun atmosphere, and reasonable prices. And when my family and grandchildren all arrive from NYC, it's their favorite. Very accommodating for large groups or kiddos. I have a lot of favorites, like the sauerkraut mashed potatoes, large, pretzels, and schnitzel!

Kate P.

Yelp
This is a reservation only restaurant not a beer hall. There are only two small tables where you can sit just to drink beer without a reservation.

Timothy S.

Yelp
The Von Trapp Bierhall transported me back to Austria. Fresh, authentic beers; delicious food, and an abundance of gemultlichkeit made for a memorable evening. The hunting lodge décor, replete with Johannes von Trapp's mounted trophies, set the mood for what would become one of the most enjoyable meals I've had in my 50 years visiting Stowe. From the grilled wursts to the chicken schnitzel, the entrees were flawless. The apple sauerkraut and pickled red cabbage were especially good, and the spätzle were light as a feather and oh so tender. Dessert was divine. The Linzer torte and Sacher torte were each served with a generous dollop of schlag and were a perfect finish to a hearty meal. If I had one suggestion, it would be to offer the pork schnitzel served up above, in the main lodge. That said, the execution of the chicken schnitzel (which so often is as dry as shoe leather elsewhere) was perfection itself. Crispy and crunchy breading gave way to moist, succulent chicken that actually tasted like chicken. The lingonberry vinaigrette and fried egg completed the combination of flavors and textures. The pleasant, informative, and attentive service completed the experience. If you like good beer and authentic Tyrol cuisine, the Von Trapp Bierhall is not only a must-go when in Stowe, it's worth the trip all by itself.

Heather D.

Yelp
We've eaten here twice as we passed through. The fare is Austrian-inspired, and there are a few dishes for vegetarians and pescatarians. If you like sausage and beer, this is your place. We've had the dip trio (loved the pimento!), large grill platter, grilled bratwurst, Trapp Cobb salad (unique), salmon (superbly grilled) entree, and grilled vegetables and spätzle (delicious). This is separate from the Von Trapp lodge, but it has pretty views. The bar area for beer tasting is impressive!

vananh b.

Yelp
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! i went on a week day and the food and drinks were great. the service was top-notch. our waiter was amazing in informing us the entrees and the drinks which was needed for newcomers! overrall a great experience. would come back again.

Katie N.

Yelp
Come for the views and the ambiance. Service left more to be desired. Hostess and host were super friendly. However other staff were aggressive about telling us where is "allowed" to sit as we only wanted to try some beer. I was randomly talking to another person that also went here this week, they had a similar experience. I had the oktoberfest- only ok.

Michael M.

Yelp
Great place. Excellent beer and primarily German/Austrian fare. The hall itself is stunning. The big game hunting trophies and stuffed animals may be off putting to sensitive children or vegetarians in your party.

Yelp
I am always in search for breweries everywhere I travel as an IPA lover. Von Trapp bierhall doesn't disappoint with a wide range of beers. It has a great atmosphere both indoors and outdoors. The view and the vibe is great especially outdoors. We didn't get a reservation ahead so we couldn't try their food but apart from that everything was top notch. Will definitely go back when I'm in Stowe.

Yelp
Stop today with my wife for a lunch. We were kind of taken aback when the host, Scott or Steve, wanted to know what we were going to eat before even sat down. He was very adamant to know because he didn't want to waste a servers time, so we just sat at the bar and enjoyed a beer and order off the menu there. Truthfully, the food is average. Their beers are not so bad but hard to say as I only have liked two out of the three so far. The ambience of the entire place is very nice! Geff, our bartender, was lacking personality. About the only person who really seem to have a positive attitude was Duncan! Thank you, Duncan! We were here so we had to try it.

Yelp
I found it refreshing to sample the brews at this old-school Austrian-style brewery. So many places emphasize those heavy-hopped IPAs. Not what you find here. They do not offer flights from sampling, but even better are their 6 oz. "tasters." In addition to the regular, non-seasonal draft beers that you'll find also retailing in cans, they have several seasonal brews. And the food is fantastic. We tried the Brussels Sprouts Fritters, which were astonishingly light and airy. The side of Spaetzle was very good, although I'm inclined to say that Spaetzle is Spaetzle by itself. Another stand-out, however, was the Turnip Slaw. Just what you might expect on an Austrian-style menu. Very refreshing salad. The staff, at the bar as well as serving the table, were all very attentive and friendly.

Yelp
The Von Trapp Brewery has a very cute rustic vibe. It's situated about 7 minutes from the lodge and is a nice spot to visit on your way back. I'm not a huge beer drinker but my family seemed to enjoy all the tasters they had. I personally enjoyed their brew from Smugglers Notch the best. It was a dark beer, with light tones of winter spices that warmed me right up. We ordered some pretzels and beer cheese to go with the beer and they came out a little cold, however still fresh, and super tasty. I'd definitely go back and try some more of their appetizers!
