Beautiful park to walk through!

Google
Really really pretty in sections but some areas were really busy with bikes, which is to be expected in Amsterdam I guess, just would have been nicer if there were some sort of no cycling zones and some less wide bustling paths.

A public urban park in Amsterdam, Netherlands. As per wikipedia its area is about 120 acres. This park is named for the poet Joost Van Den Vondel. There is an open-air theatre, a large playground, various food service facilities are available. Very much greenery with amazing landscape sceneries will amaze you. Awesome place for morning or evening walk. I love this place so much.

The crocus and tulips are blooming right now in March, and although it is bitterly cold, everyone is out enjoying this park.

Yelp
My favorite park in Amsterdam in such a bike friendly city. I first toured through on a bike tour, then on another day strolled through the park by myself after renting a bike. Love the greenery and scenes at the park, and would definitely go there again on any future visits to the city. Tip: Park is pretty big, and it is best toured by bike.

Yelp
A visit to the largest city park in Amsterdam is a must. You can walk, run, ride a bike and more. We enjoyed our stroll around the park and ended it with a drink at 't Blauwe Theehuis which is located in the middle of it.

Yelp
Always a fan of a giant slab of nature in the middle of a city. Europe does this well. I love that this park was easily accessible and gigantic. It was so nice to see a ton of families and individuals enjoying the nature despite the cold, rainy weather. It was very well marked and had multiple entrances. The paths were very large and open and there was a ton of wildlife. Seems like a really wonderful place to take or go for a run. I even saw some people settled on the grass, enjoying a book or conversation. Seems like there's quite a lot of little shops and restaurants along the way as well. Highly recommend you wandering through here as it's easily found and navigated via map.

Yelp
This is Amsterdam's version of Central Park spanning about 120 acres just outside the Canal Ring. This swath of green offers a welcome visual alternative to the monochromatic sea of brick that makes up central Amsterdam. We saw "The Fish" statue by Pablo Picasso, and numerous music, dance, and cabaret performances at the open-air theater during the summer months. It is legal for adults to have sex after dark in this park. They can't be near playgrounds and have to take condoms with them afterwards. Smoking & drinking alcohol is permitted. The foliage in October was spectacular. The park was filled with runners, bikers, birds, mallards & picnickers. The homes bordering the park are magnificent. There is a restaurant inside the park.

Yelp
Vondelpark is Amsterdam's answer to the Central Park of New York, it spans 120 acres and hosts 10 million visitors every year, the location is central within the city, to the west of Leidseplein and Museumplein. The park is pretty and nice to walk around to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, with the green spaces and the lake being nice to look at. It's generally quite peaceful too, although I did visit during Winter, and in the peak of summer, this could be different with residents and tourists alike wanting to explore and relax in the green spaces. It's generally quite nice to walk around during the daylight hours, but the park becomes a little sketchier at night for all sorts of reasons, I think the lighting in the park could be better and have seen advice online for people to wear bright clothes/lights to avoid being run down by bikes. A tourist attraction in its' own right, this internationally famous park is certainly worth a visit if you're in The Netherlands. 4*

Yelp
An amazing park, this is truly the Central Park of Amsterdam. Rent a bike nearby or just walk through this amazing park. A place to go alone, your dog, with others or your family. Surprisingly there's a great brew pub in the middle of the park. You can't miss Vodel Park if you're in Amsterdam. Take an hour or all day. Either way, you'll remember your time here!

Yelp
Vondelpark is Amsterdam's largest urban park. We walked over here and took a short stroll around by the pond. If you're an art lover, Pablo Picasso's 1965 abstract sculpture, The Fish, can be found on the premises.

Yelp
Vondelpark was the first place i visited when i arrived in Amsterdam. It was a lovely hot day and this was a perfect place to wander and relax after my flight. This is a huge park with wide open grassy areas as well as lots of paths for the many bikes that whizz by so please be careful and watch where you are going. On my walk I spotted a lovely blue bridge, lots of willow trees and a huge heron right by the river. There were water fountains and statues and probably lots more interesting things to see as you walk further but I didn't have time. But definitely a great place to relax and unwind on a sunny day.

Yelp
Wonderful park right in the heart of Amsterdam. Would highly recommend spending a few hours here exploring the park. Great place to walk, take in the sites, people watch or just laze around and I saw people doing all of it. Just watch out for the speeding cyclists. Almost got rammed a couple of times.
google avatar

Yelp
What a beautiful park! We spent our morning walking through and enjoying the day. This was the highlight of my day if I'm honest and that's not a slight on anything else we did I just so enjoyed the park. We are dog people and there were so many people with their dogs spending time in the park and it made us miss our dog even more but it was so great to enjoy the day and walk through the many paths, over the bridges, etc. What also makes the park great is there are a few restaurants in the middle as well allowing you to eat outside in the park and then just get back to enjoying your day. This is a must for anyone travelling to Amsterdam!!

Yelp
I love this park. It can be very busy when the weather is nice, but that just makes the people watching better. When we were there, there was a naked demonstration against air pollution (unfortunately not terribly hot naked people- rather the opposite) but still, exciting! Some nice young men from the Hague explained what was going on for us. We had no idea. Thought the old men were just sunbathing like they do in the German parks. There are many places to stop here and drink- whatever you like- but they do get crowded at times. You MUST watch our for the cyclists who WILL kill you, if you do not watch for them. But there are many pedestrian walks without terrifying cyclists on them and I recommend those. You can bring a blanket and picnic here or find a nice bench. There are lots of dogs here so watch where you walk. There are wonderful cafes at many of the exits of the park or near many of the exits. If you want to take lovely pictures without being photobombed, so early- the park is pretty deserted before 8:30 am- as is most of Amsterdam.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect place to spend a sunny afternoon!! There are great trails for both biking and walking, loads of people about with dogs as well. Grateful I had a book in my bag and laid in the park for a good couple hours laying and reading in the sun. Definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Not much to really add to this phenomenal park in the center of Amsterdam. It's free to enter but you wouldn't know that when wondering around the first time. It's massive but also walkable in about an hour. It gets very crowded and lots of bikes whizzing around in every direction on the main paths. Most dogs are off their leash, although TECHNICALLY there are "leash rules" in some of the busier areas. Covid-19 has changed a lot of things here in the spring and summer. Mostly they would close off the side entrances to squeeze everyone together at the north and south entrances. I know they want to count and manage who can get inside, but it's still more people crowded together. It's like winning the lottery to live near this park (walking distance) - and maybe I do need to win the lottery to afford this, but it's a beautiful, safe and clean place.

Yelp
Amazing spot for a long walk or just to sit and read and escape the hustle of the city..

Yelp
If you're lucky enough to visit Amsterdam then you must check out Vondelpark. This park is beautiful and you need to lose yourself for a few hours here. There's so much greenery and tons of spots to take a sit. This is a great spot to bicycle around and walking distance from the museums. There are a few spots to grab a bite within the park and you'll see plenty of people taking photos.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
What's not to like? Beautiful park, lots of ponds, lakes, trees, green grass to lay on and have a picnic. Pet friendly. Food vendors. Lots of trails for biking and running. Kind of reminds me of a mini Central Park.

Yelp
One of my most fond experiences ever. Travel friend ran into her friends, just perchance. They were staying center of the city, and wanted to hang with us. They rented additional bikes from their posh 5 star hotel, and we biked EVERYWHERE..I mean Wittenburg, Jewish Qtr, Centraal Station, Jordaan-- but my favorite ride of all time: A lazy, languorous ride through idyllic Vondelpark! Sights to behold in every corner, lazy, relaxed, and restful Dutch out enjoying the weekend. More than glorious. I highly recommend a visit, if not by foot, then by local choice of transport: bicycle ( sella San Remo seats will never render sore the derrière!)

Yelp
Loved this park, it is quite large in the middle of Amsterdam. As soon as you walk into the park it is quiet and beautiful. The park is located near the museums area. It is very clean and well maintained. Lots of funds, trees, flowers, cafes, areas for kids and dogs to play. A real treat for people that live in Amsterdam as well as for visitors.

Yelp
When the omni-present rain ceases and the sun pokes out its head, seemingly every damn-Dammer heads to Vondelpark, an urban oasis of green grass, ponds, fountains, people grilling in little alminum tins, wine, beer, pot, and a rainbow nation of ethnicities mixing it up together. This park is beautiful, and shouldn't be missed on a sunny day. As if strolling through Vondelpark on a summer afternoon weren't rich enough, wild parrots suddenly alit from a big, leafy tree and flew through the sky with their long, green tails revealing all. Wait, let me restate that. WILD PARROTS!!!!!: one of the coolest things I've ever hoped to see. I've spent years dreaming of seeing the wild parrots of Telegraph Hill. Who knew that it'd take a trip to Amsterdam to finally see these beauties. Vondelpark on its own is definitely worthy but while you're smoking, drinking, and Qing, keep your eyes open and you too might be rewarded with a viewing.

Yelp
This is a nice park in Amsterdam that has lots of grass, lakes, some places to buy snacks and drinks, a small outdoor theater area, and looping jogging/biking paths. I saw a lot of people on bicycles, joggers, walkers, people just laying out on the grass. It was perfect to hang out and chill at, and on my second trip to Amsterdam, my bf went for a jog in the park while I went for a stroll. And afterwards, we had a little picnic with some food we bought from Albert Cuypmarkt. :)
google avatar

Rodrigo L.

Yelp
One of the if not the most beautiful park in Amsterdam. I can recommend this for every person as it has appeal to every age group.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Such a wonderful park to stroll through on a sunny/rainy day. This is not the biggest park in Amsterdam but it appears to the "Central Park" as it's centrally located close to the beautiful homes and museums nearby. There are tons of room for bikes to pass through and hot-dog vendors dot the landscape. And unlike the rest of europe, there are free ways to go to the bathroom.

Yelp
I got proposed to here, so it's safe to say this place has an eternal five star rating in my heart!! My now fiancé and I had set up a cute little picnic in this off the beaten path spot surrounded by beautiful trees. Needless to say it was a beautiful park with beautiful memories made there.

Theodora D.

Yelp
My husband and I walked in Vondelpark on a Saturday. It is a beautiful park, but I gave it four stars because it was so crowded. We decided to rent bikes and found a great place a couple blocks away. It was a lot if fun to ride bikes in the park and it's an easy way to see the whole park. We took a break and sat on a bench with a beautiful view. We also stopped at a restaurant in the park when it stared to rain and we had beer and pizza.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Awesome park in the middle of Amsterdam, it was like walking through Central Park in NYC, only with more wildlife and ponds everywhere. They also had a few places you could stop and have coffee or even a beer at. Would highly reocmmend taking a walk through here id you are in town.

Yelp
We had only two short days in Amsterdam and a friend highly recommended visiting Vondelpark. He mentioned he could spend an entire day here, and now that we've been, I can see why! We went to Vondelpark on our last day in town, which unfortunately only gave us a half day to explore. The park is sprawling with ponds, trickling creeks, statues, and just enough places scattered throughout to stop for a pint or some food. We were unfamiliar with the lay of the land, so we snagged a map (€2 donation towards the park), which was very helpful in navigating us to things we wanted to check out in our short time. If we had more time to wander, it probably wouldn't be necessary as Vondelpark is spacious with enough landmarks to see throughout, but as others have mentioned, not so big you'll get totally lost. On our visit, we were fortunate to stumble across the amphitheater, where a roller disco was taking place that day, obviously meaning it was time to grab a pint and a bench to watch the fun! We then meandered to the Rosarium, with its perfect maze of many flowers and fountains. Next time, we'll bring a blanket and drinks to relax and soak it all in! I look forward to our next visit to Amsterdam (just in general, of course), as we'll be sure to visit Vondelpark again. I highly recommend if you're in town and the weather permits!

Yelp
I am fortunate enough to be able to visit Vondelpark everyday since I walk my dog there. The park is not too big to where you can walk the whole park and not feel lost like Central Park or Hyde Park, but big enough to where you feel like you can find your own little spot of tranquility. There are multiple restaurants/cafes in the park where you can stop and get food or a coffee. There are playgrounds for kids and also a rose garden. There are lots of people working out in groups and running. There are also a couple of dog fields where all of the dog owners head to and let their dogs off leash to run and play. There may be one dog or 20 dogs at one time. Many people ride their bikes through the park. If you are a tourist remember to look both ways before crossing in case a bike is coming your way. You can also rent bikes to cycle through the park which is fun. Just remember to follow the rules and stay on the right side when riding. Overall, a visit to Vondelpark is a must if you're visiting Amsterdam.

Yelp
This is the Central Patk of Amsterdam - a beautiful park bustling with bikers, runners, walkers and dog walkers. There are people sleeping, sun tanning, working, playing with kids, practicing yoga, playing instruments and more. This is a gem and reminds you to put away your phone and enjoy the simple things.
google avatar

Keven Bobby B.

Yelp
10/10 Would Recommend - Cozy AF My wife and I were so fortunate with the weather the weekend we visited. Take a moment to lay in the grass and really take in this park for what it is - an amazing piece of greenery.
google avatar

Yelp
The Vondelpark is perhaps my favorite place we explored when we were in Amsterdam! It's a gorgeous urban 120-acre park in Amsterdam, which has an open air theater, several restaurant/bars, and other attractions! It's gorgeous - green green grass, ponds, gorgeous trees... We spent some time wandering around, but I would have loved to read my book on a blanket for a few hours! If you're in the area, don't miss it!
google avatar

Mehmet A.

Yelp
One of the more touristic parks in The Netherlands; not a bad thing. Great place to visit in the weekend to meet new people. All-in-all, Worth the detour.
google avatar

Yelp
BEAUTIFUL. Absolutely go. Bring a bike! Stop at the cafe by the pond. Leave a few hours open to enjoy this wonderful place.
google avatar

Mark T.

Yelp
Despite a love for museums, eating, various site seeing, and meeting people....I love finding a park like this. While it doesn't really best Munich's English Gardens, it is still a pretty cool park! You walk in, "hustle and bustle" of the city all around you. Soon. As you walk deeper and deeper in, the city vanishes. You walk through, and see people, kids, dogs, and of course cyclists... A building here and there, but no city. Park has many little forks in the road, as well as little "lakes". Great for an adventure, particularly by randomly deciding left or right. Some limited thickly forested areas, and a couple small bridges. Overall, if you've already seen two museums, had some beer, and took a nightly stroll in electric red light, go here, a wonderful change of pace for a little bit.
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
Best park in Amsterdam. Ok, can I seriously say it is the best park in Amsterdam without experiencing the others? Probably not, but I'm going to do it anyways. I can't imagine what could make a park better. There are wide trails where people are walking and biking. There are tons of grassy areas to sit, lay, read, relax. There is shade, there is sun, there are fountains, there are playgrounds. There are even food trucks! Yes, you read that right, there are food trucks! My husband and I were exceptionally lucky and rented a studio near Vondelpark so we biked through it every day. When it was too hot to stay in our studio, we would walk to Vondelpark, spread out a blanket and sit and read. It was perfect. Almost every day there was a different food truck that we passed by while we biked. There are so many people in this park. However, not enough that is feels overcrowded. I think it is the perfect amount. If you are in Amsterdam, check out this park!
google avatar

Yelp
After a long day of sightseeing and walking through museums and canals and more canals, I just wanted to take a quick nap before we had dinner. Vondelpark was the perfect place to escape the hubbub of the city. It's a lovely spot for locals and tourists alike. You will find many people just lounging around on a blanket, enjoying the afternoon sun, sipping a nice cold beverage, or having a picnic. Like anywhere else in Amsterdam, watch out for those bicyclists! They are viscous! :) Definitely recommended if you want to take a break from city life for a bit.
google avatar

Aleksandr F.

Yelp
This is a giant park almost in center of Amsterdam. Vondel park is super green in summer. There are a lot of trees here. You can have a yoga, running, cycling, or just have a picnic under trees. We've noticed in this park green parrots in first time in Amsterdam and it was really unusual. One more interesting thing: people can have a sex officially and legally in this park.
google avatar

Nadia Z.

Yelp
Have you ever got lost in a city park? Well, Vondelpark is a place to do it. Huge oasis of green in the middle of busy city, with roads and walkways as windy as mountain paths, and landscape ever-changing. Bridges and lakes, streams and lawns, cafes and benches. Bird watching is amazing here. ...Well, so is people-watching... There are hundreds of either variety - flying, sitting, playing, biking, observing, fighting for food or just chilling looking back at ya. It's a great escape from downtown dirty streets and hordes of stinky tourists.
google avatar

Peter D.

Yelp
When you rent yourself a bike, which you absolutely should do while in Amsterdam, make a point to ride through Vondelpark. You shouldn't need more reasons than the fact that there are freaking parrots flying around. FREAKING PARROTS. But here are a couple more: 1. it's huge and gorgeous. 2. On a sunny day, the people watching is incredible. 3. There's a pool, people playing soccer, a rowing lane in the river... 4. There's a sculpture by Picasso. 5. The entertainers are actually priceless. 6. It's named after a guy who inspired the Powers That Be to crack down on "notorious living." I like that. That's all you get. Go have a good time.
google avatar

AJ A.

Yelp
Vondelpark, which is pronounced "Fondle Park" (Yes, be careful walking here at night), is a great park for your dog if you live in the area! There's an area in the center of the park where dog owners go to have their dogs run free and socialize with other dogs. It's really great. If you're a runner, you'd have to run several circles around the park following the tracks because it's not that big of a park but for a morning jog it's fine, I guess. What really makes this park charming are the houses right at the edge of the park. It gives it a lot of historical character. Another thing I love about this park is that the main roads/paths (not for cars, motorbikes or scooters, unless you're a cop). They are very wide!
google avatar

Gemma G.

Yelp
Vondelpark is a beautiful area in which you can escape the hubbub of Amsterdam. I strongly recommend hiring a bicycle and spending a couple of hours exploring the area. There are lakes, fountains, beautiful shrubbery, and if you are lucky you may spot a bright green parrot flying from tree to tree. There are also a number of buskers around, some of which are pretty fantastic. There are a few cafes in the park so stop and grab some food or a beer and enjoy your surroundings. What better way to revitalise your soul after some of the seediness of the city!
google avatar

Joseph Y.

Yelp
Absolutely love cities with parks like Vondel. It's a massive escape from the city and in my opinion one of the better parks for a large capital city that I've visited. There are dedicated bike paths, walking paths, ponds, open grass areas, anything you'd want in a park. Plenty of benches to kick back and read a book or simply people watch. I spent a couple hours here just relaxing and reading a book enjoying my vacation, it's a very peaceful place. While there's lots of people here, everyone is rather polite in not making huge amounts of noise to disturb the peace. A five star park in my opinion and definitely recommend it as a stop if you visit Amsterdam.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
This park was beautiful! I would definitely recommend walking around if you have the time. Lots of paths as well as water (ponds mostly). There were quite a lot of people, but it wasn't that crowded!

Sofia O.

Yelp
A massive park that helps you completely escape the city! There are a few cafes here or you can just bring a snack, a book, and enjoy at a quiet spot. There is also a fountain area for children. Since the park is so big, renting a bike to ride through is very nice.
google avatar

Saige M.

Yelp
This place is gorgeous. I wandered through here for hours without getting bored, just people watching and soaking in nature. The fountains are huge, the grass is green and everything about this huge park is amazing. This place is definitely a must see every time I am in Amsterdam, rain or shine.
google avatar

Asia L.

Yelp
Vondelpark is a wonderful park; it's my home away from home. The running path is just over 3km. Some fun things to look for: 1) Green, ring-necked parakeets. They have a distinctive high chirp! A couple rare ones are yellow. They can be found in opening holes of trees. 2) Picasso's Fish sculpture 3) The park constructed stork-nest. There are usually baby storks inside! 4) Sideways growing trees 5) Three tea houses 6) Children's playground structure in the trees 7) Tulip and rose garden 8) High-shooting water fountains 9) Heron & egyptian geese 10) Rabbits at dusk 11) Friday night skate 12) Horses riding through 13) The bubble man 14) Dogs, dogs, dogs! On a nice day, watch out, it's madness! :)
google avatar

Raul I.

Yelp
Beautiful park. Nice place to sit down and relax in the middle of all the touristy sightseeing. Sometimes there's live music and plenty of nature trails to walk about or grass to lay down and relax. Two small areas available where you can sit down to grab a few bites of something light to eat or enjoy a cold beer.
google avatar

Laura W.

Yelp
When visiting Amsterdam, make sure you visit Vondelpark, which offers a picturesque and scenic location to take a break from touring the city. It is the largest city park in Amsterdam and is centrally located near the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. It's favored by both locals and tourists and is a great people-watching spot! You can even bring a picnic (or wine and cheese) to enjoy in the park. Paths are shared with bicyclists so be aware of your surroundings. This is a perfect place to take some time to enjoy the beauty of Amsterdam while staying in the city!
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
Nice, huge park. I guess I would compare it to Central Park. Lots of scenery and activities. Seems like a nice place to bike ride or walk your dog
google avatar

Joel O.

Yelp
Having spent a lot of time in Central Park - it seems to be compared to as Amsterdam's answer to it Some good playgrounds - and some interesting cafes. I especially like that you can have a drink while watching your kids on the playground. As per typical Netherlands - everything closes at 5
